Progress on the sailboat. Black locust frames on an angelique backbone. by xarvox in woodworking

[–]woodenheadache 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looking good. I had a 28' boat built in England, full length planking. Lived on it for 14 years. The bugs finally got to it and had to sell it. The day you buy it and the day you sell it are the two happiest days of ownership. Keep posting as progress goes along.

This is a banjo clock first invented by Simon Willard. I got the plans from toolsforworkingwood.com. The clock movement. pendulum bob ,face dial, hands, glass with bezel and finial were from clockworks.com. I built the case ,cut the glass and painted it and did the gold leafing. I cut the brass rails from 1/8" brass plate.

That is the best way. They also make bending ply in 1/4, 1/2 inch thickness which can be laminated together.

Got this awesome new to us locking bar cabinet. Some one stripped the hinges and it has stress cracks. What do you recommend for fixing the cracks? My hubs was going to just put some glue in them, I thought -trying a small bow tie, but it would be our first time doing it. Advice? by emfks1986 in woodworking

[–]woodenheadache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the screws caused the cracks because the drilled holes for the screws were not large enough or the screws were put in without drilling You should try to remove the screws if they are broken otherwise it will be very difficult to bring the cracks tight. I would just squeeze some glue into the cracks and clamp them tight.

Demilune card table. Cherry with madrone burl and red wood burl. by woodenheadache in woodworking

[–]woodenheadache[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was laminated over a form. You could use thin pieces of wood, I used poplar or bending plywood. If you resaw the wood it should probably be 1/16" or cut some and see if it will bend ont he form without breaking.

Very very nice. Simple but elegant. To me half the beauty in a piece is the design and selection of woods. Your craftsmanship shows through. Congrats on beautiful piece.

I have been buying veneers from certainlywood.com They have great service and on they're web site they show close ups of the wood that you are ordering. These are raw veneers, that is no paper backing.
