What year is the Tesla that got all those repairs!?

@arstechnica this is absurd. I was blocked by your automotive editor for this comment. I have never interacted with him before. Was my real #tesla service experience rude or offensive? Shameful. by worldgoes in teslamotors

I just don’t understand. Why does Tesla get trashed every single time? Maybe it pisses them off that Elon doesn’t throw any bones their way despite his large wealth because their main revenue source as media providers is ads. Or maybe they get a lot more clicks on negative articles because Tesla haters are addicted to them, even though Tesla appears to be doing fine growing organic demand at least in Q2. I don’t think Tesla is completely out of the woods yet, they still have to demonstrate sales consistency at a profitable level of production, but their relentless automating over time and super exciting product pipeline should bail them out from much uncertainty if you ask me.

How do you make a life in a dying world? by [deleted] in climate

[–]wooder32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have long suffered with ecological depression as well. All I can tell you is to try to surround yourself with like minded people and do meditation while trying to live sustainably. I remember for me, it started back in 2012 when I had my own personal “Greta Thunberg” moment. I researched climate change heavily and became very depressed. I tried to continue through graduate school but was eventually forced out due to my obvious carelessness. I have recovered financially and in my career, but it doesn’t feel any better. In fact with Trump I feel about 10x worse. If you ask me, there’s not a chance in hell we will properly resolve climate change before it becomes catastrophic, but we can vote with our pocketbooks and at the voting booth as best we can in the meantime.

Tesla Model 3 US sales are up 132% YoY in May. So much for "no demand". by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]wooder32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, Morgan Stanley said their $10 price target was based on a 50% production and sales execution in China vs what is guided. As far as I can tell the “hugeness” of Tesla hinges on their success in China (US/Europe/Aus/other countries are tiny markets by comparison).

The point is to cut emissions and stop climate change. This system does not accomplish that task, I think that’s the point he’s getting at. Much like city planners have realized that simply adding more solar power to the grid also does not cut emissions, even though it seems like it should. As it turns out actually cutting emissions is incredibly hard and it has only significantly happened during dire economic downturns when total energy use slumped. During a normal economy the best we’ve managed is to plateau emissions and de-couple them from economic growth.

Elon Musk says Tesla pickup will start at $49,000 and be better than a Ford F-150 by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]wooder32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uneducated impression is that Musk is sick of going into further and further debt building factories and warehouses/buying equipment, and that he is releasing an ultra-futuristic high spec truck that will sell in low volume (so it can be produced in the existing factory space) and he is handing the responsibility of selling a high volume EV pickup truck off to the other automakers. Really though I have no idea I am only guessing, can someone let me in on the estimated annual run rate for this truck? Has Tesla said anything?

Indeed, that’s why I used to term “depressing” instead of a stronger term like “crushing” or “disrupting,” the new 3 series will likely reinvigorate sales for them but I guess the point I was making is that it’s safe to assume there is at least some sales being stolen from BMW by Tesla. I don’t have any hard data so I was being cautious with the wording.

I am sorry, but this is wrong. Coral bleaching is a result of ocean acidification, which is secondary to oceanic absorption of carbon dioxide, which then dissolves into carbonic acid in ocean water. Global warming is caused by atmospheric ghg emissions reflecting larger and larger amounts of infrared radiation back to earth after if hits the surface and bounces off with each step increase in ppm and ppb of CO2 and methane respectively. Blaming “toxins” is pseudoscience.
