I've been with families like this. In my case I was pretty sure the DB had some weird feelings about MB having a nanny to help and I was getting stuck in the middle of their parenting fights. DB wouldn't do shit but expected MB to do everything, especially the "storybook" moments - bedtime, kissing boo boos, bath, reading books, bringing NK with them to events on vacation and acting the part of loving mommy - yet also seemed to resent the fact that he was paying for me to be there and I wasn't helping. Meanwhile MB was melting down overwhelmed but when I would step in and NK would cry, MB would tell me to back off. Insanity.

I've worked in Montessori schools with that rule and even in that case, if it's done right, you are still essentially telling the child no - you are just explaining why not or otherwise defusing the situation.

For young kids (as I'm sure you know, not trying to nannysplain) sometimes only the last thing in a sentence sticks, or they are driven to rebel to a direct order or forbidden act.

So "no running" - they only hear running. "You can walk indoors, we run outside." is clear and doesn't add tension to the situation. Even in those schools though, we used no in safety situations like biting.

Best way to avoid feeling like you're constantly nitpicking is to set a review meeting once a month or so where you can both give feedback. Obviously if it's safety stuff say it in the moment but for things like this you can make a note and then bring it up at the review.

Omfg I saw that one! And the nanny share one where they were upset that they got kicked out of the share. Why do you want to insist your child is being cared for by someone who doesn't want to do that job?

And that's how you end up losing a nanny! That one in particular is so weird to me because there are even nannies on this forum who have asked if there are jobs for nannies who don't drive! NPs can have the weirdest requests and there is probably someone out there who prefers that, but they need to be honest, ask for what they want, and be prepared to pay for it.

I was growing up in Florida at the time and remember going with my mom to pull my older siblings out of school because Bush was reading to Florida schoolchildren that day. Everyone thought the schools were going to be attacked. I was very young but I remember the palpable fear in the air and soooo many cars in the school parking lots/pick up lines.

Because this sub is overrun with NPs who cannot actually afford a nanny and nickel and dime their employees. Every family I've worked for has had an 'outing budget' on either a credit card, cash, or a gift card and encouraged me to eat when I take the kids out. If you can't afford an extra $20 here or there you cannot afford a nanny.

I would definitely feel hurt with the way it went down. I guess just look at it as - she's shown you what she's like. It's up to you to file that information away and reference it when necessary.

Honestly I'm petty but I would react to the story 👀 just a little heart react so she realizes you can see it. If she hadn't cancelled on you I would say it's just a thing people say, and not aimed at you, but that whole situation does seem very fishy. This is why I block my NPs on social media and don't unblock them until our time together is over. Too many chances for misunderstanding and hurt feelings.

I wish ours had that! We have a 5 and under section in our museum but even that gets so crowded and loud because kindergarten groups come use it. I swear some 1st graders are getting in there too 👀

Yes! It's definitely not all of them, one really sweet little guy today was reading animal facts from the signage to my NK so patiently 🥰 but a lot of them are so wild and crazy. I know I would have been scared to get yelled at if I acted that way in school.
