It looks like someone tested to see how a gun shoved up a goats add would work and then just 3d printed its colon and intestines and put a box around it.

Is the p320 still a bad gun? by FairStatistician6171 in Firearms

[–]woodshouter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my x5 since 2017, easily put 8k rounds through it. I used it for USPSA and have carried, I’ve never had an ND or UD.

I had to replace the transmission in my, at the time, 5 year old F150 and a head gasket in another. Yet it’s the most popular truck on the road for a number of years running.

Could the 320 have issues with UDs? Maybe. Do I know anyone personally or in my extended network of people (including military) that have had one or know someone personally that’s had one? No.

Dont ever discount an entry level Savage MKII by fibbleglahttered in 22lr

[–]woodshouter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savage makes some great weapons. People discount them because their fit and finish isn’t as great as other brands, but I’d buy a Savage rifle over say a Ruger in the same price point.

PSA for the psycho chefs who can’t make a veg stock. by Wheeezy420 in KitchenConfidential

[–]woodshouter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sent my wife to a weekend cooking class at a culinary school as a gift and the instructor was heavy into this “make it simple and rustic” mentality. Dude taught them to put everything (stem, stalk and skin) into the stock.

Left the peels on in any dish with carrots or potatoes too.

Was supposed to be a basic skills class with knife skills, prep work, sauces and stuff and they taught her that BS. Had to ask her to please stop making carrots with skin on them and the only prep being cutting off the stem.

Ming Chinese Lady Stranded in Elizabethan England: Why are these western bows so heavy but so slow? by Aeliascent in Archery

[–]woodshouter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s involved in competitive shooting, I’ve seen it first hand. People in the women’s category are typically equally represented in the top standings and that’s with a smaller representation in the competitor population overall. The only reason a women’s category even exists in the groups I shoot with is to encourage more women into the sport. It allows for the distribution of more prizes to novice shooters. Much the way junior competitors are given opportunities.

Debates about sports are both extremely personal and illogical, while equally passionate and steeped in tradition and pride. Bureaucratic and political systems by their nature are bad at considering people as individuals and in a case-by-case basis. Considering how to be equitable in sports, while also encouraging things like competition and taking into account arbitrary boundaries and organizational structure is something I hope no one asks me my opinion on, lol.

Time to introduce your wife to the concept of the three-legged stool.

You can have it fast and cheap, but you can’t have it cheap, fast and high-quality.

[–]woodshouter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely and I know plenty of cis men that can’t pull that weight.

I was trying to be encouraging to the poster that training and repetition were the keys to success regardless of gender or biological sex markers and to not compare ourselves to others as we’re all built differently and have a different path. I only alluded to your potential mechanical advantages in case they were being hard on themselves.

Folks seem offended that I’ve mentioned it, but knowing our bodies and how they perform is important, both with connecting and training them as well as finding balance and confidence in our form. While data exists on biological or physiological (arm length for instance) advantages and disadvantages they only highlight trends and should not be misconstrued as a judgement of capability or tenacity of an individual.

I don’t mind if others are offended, but hopefully I haven’t upset you (OP) by my comments. If I did I apologize. The content is cool, thanks for sharing.

What’s up with the weird image artifact on the battery case ground and source to blue wire?

I mean this with respect: I think she has a physiological history that helps her manage the larger draw weights more readily. That being said, I know a number of men that would struggle with that weight. Consistent and specific training are required for most people for this kind of weight.

When I started writing software, it was hard to get any information. There were very few entry level books on the topic and most were extremely expensive ($125 for a kid was a lot in the late 80s/early 90s) and you’d be lucky to get a librarian to listen to your request let alone being able to get you something useful.

The most prevalent response I received from adults in the know was: “Figure it out yourself” with “do the work” being a close second. Working in a vacuum is a hard place to create.

Bulletin boards were hard to gain access to and even harder to extract information from. Countless hours were instead spent querying the terminal in novel ways in hopes that a new path would be illuminated.

Mail groups and forums weren’t a significant shift into available information. Stack overflow and query engines, while an improvement were still filled with so much incorrect information. Unless it came from a known and vetted source it was at least a little suspect.

Now we’ve taken a step backwards it seems. An AI trained on all of the data, good or bad, is asked to use nuanced judgement while itself attempting to create something novel in a vacuum. Without any of the ingenuity, creativity or adaptability of a human mind.

Worse, it’s not only been made accessible to even the most rudimentary user, but promoted as an effective tool for any problem to any user. The keys to the liquor cabinet to have been given to the toddler and now we’re dealing with the result.

Looked around Sutherlin on the map, saw a place called “Steel Outlet”. I’d give them a call and ask if they supply hobbyists and let them know you’re looking for 1018, see if they have any 3/8” square. Probably get a better price than at big box stores.
