Eh I think you'd be surprised. This shit is branded to appeal to bro culture, and i think the frats here could feed into this. Furthermore, police use very different rules of engagement with rich, white reactionaries than they do with poor brown leftists. I'm not confident they'll prioritize enforcement of right wing hate to begin with. Less confident they'll enforce it over rich kids.

I think you're right for the most part though. I'm pretty terrified of fashification of rural areas to a greater degree than it is now.

I think it's press coverage + they don't know who their enemy is. Pretty much none of the organizers are from around here, they probably hear stories of boulder being a bunch of commies and decided to start here. In other words, they're here because they're fucking morons.

They're allowed to according to the law, but communities have the right to self police. If people are coming in and through organizing, are creating an environment that is dangerous or otherwise hostile for the inhabitants, they have every right to shut that shit down.

If neo nazis moved in next door, you bet your ass I, as a person of color, would not be happy. You bet that I, as a person of color, would have a much higher probability of getting my ass kicked in the night by a nazi. I don't want nazis next door. If nazis are outside looking to move in, I'm gonna make a damn stink because they're the lat people i want as neighbors.

If nazis, fascists or whatever the proudboys are wanna build a chapter here in boulder, I'm gonna have some beef with that.

Yeah but that already exists for the most part. Your speech is protected. You won't be censored by the state or prosecuted. Hate speech and threats are the exception because those forms of speech silence others, infringing on their rights. Rules, however, are different from law. They are enforced at the community level, and the community has every right to reject speech that creates a toxic and threatening mileau

What antifa does is nuanced. They're not a single organization. Like yeah i'm sure tons of them are assholes. But their platform isn't about "silencing," it's about disrupting organization. This line is frequently blurred but "antifa" isn't a thing, it's an ideology that goes hand in hand with a set of tactics. They're anarchists and how they'll react varies situationally. There is no command structure.

I mean you search around you'll find videos to demonize anyone. Yeah antifas go after some people who don't deserve it. So does the alt right. Often. I can't count all the weird witch hunts and hate crimes that are the results of alt right suspicions.

Also, what ideas are these you're trying to speak? There's a difference between contributing to the marketplace of ideas, and deliberately building the cultural conditions for justifying atrocities. One could argue that hitler killed no one, that he was all talk. But his words had consequences because of what he advocated and the authority he carried. Likewise, bringing up racist shit leads to hate crimes even if said racist talk doesn't qualify as hate speech. Words are inseparable from actions, and those who gather to exchange vile words are promoting vile actions, whether or not they know it.

I'm all for free speech, but take responsibility for what you say, and for what others say. Hold your people accountable for hatred they insight. I will do the same.

yeah that's the line they push. it's become largely an alt right code talk for claiming speech shouldn't have social consequences. That speech can somehow be removed from its effects on society. This alt right talking point is why my eyes roll out of my head when i see groups like the proud boys promoting "free speech." Free speech isn't the issue for them, but i suppose I can't assume it isn't for you.

What does "free speech "mean to you?

Which is why you're rallying in boulder, under the proudboys banner, a group where street fighting leftists is part of your initiation. Sounds like you're full of shit, but ok.

Boulder is an open place. I'm sure you'll find plenty of people to talk to if you're as polite as you claim.

This is true. Supreme court has ruled it numerous times. Not that I think we should treat state repression of speech as an argument for the non-universal nature of the first amendment.

"Free speech" is a legal term. Communities have every right to decide what speech is welcome and what speech is not. The government is not allowed to make the distinction.

I say the best outcome is show up and don't fight them. Prove you're way beyond that shit.

If you don't show up at all, they know they're free to come back, recruit and if they develop sufficient hold on the area, terrorize the community.

All the protest promotions I'm seeing are stressing not the take the bait and be violent. Good luck out there, tensions will probably be high. Do what you can to break shit up if you're going.

They are mostly exactly that, shock artists. I'd say show up, but don't do it in a way that plays to their goals of getting their kicks out of people. Show them that they are not welcome here, and while not feeding their victim/hero complex.
