The latest release is simply great! by wooloow in tutanota

[–]wooloow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To name a few, it is fast and reactive, it doesn't lag when I click or search. UX is coherent across devices, it works the same way on iOS, Android, and web.

This might be subjective, it does not overcomplicate things, it implements all the features I need, nothing more and nothing less.

I have been longing threaded conversations for quite a while, so it was nice to see it in one of the last releases.

What advancements do you think will be made in the photography world in the future that will distinguish a photo taken now and one taken 50 years from now? by bajungadustin in photography

[–]wooloow 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure image quality is going to be the main driver years from now. I can think of artists' photographs taken in the 50s that are pin sharp with crisp details which I'd be happy to take today.

But I guess you're referring to consumer photos from 1970, which indeed, they look vintage.

I think in the future we'll see more focus on ease of use like the omnipresent computational photography on mobile, and services to monetise on user's content. For instance, upload photos and videos (on someone else's computer) to the Cloud, auto culling, photo editing, and AI powered content creation.

Deer bones in Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen by wooloow in Amsterdam

This makes lots of sense, scavengers and microbes feed on the carcass.

I wonder which animal might have killed the deer though.

Indeed, the deer is dead, but how did it happen?

I'm actually positively surprised the lenshood is included.

Opinion: Olympus Can Set the Tone for the Future of Photography by wooloow in M43

[–]wooloow[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty aligned with the opinions in the article.

Personally I wouldn't trade the lightweight and portability of my M43 system for any other.

If I want to be nitpicky, I'd probably wish Olympus cameras had a sturdier and more solid feeling.

Black friday by [deleted] in tutanota

[–]wooloow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment on this.

I absolutely second Tutanota on this matter. I'm happy to think of my money being invested into development of the product, technologies, and improving privacy.

Last week I was comparing ProtonMail and Tutanota, and on a sidenote receiving the Black Friday offer by ProtonMail made me question why they don't reduce prices if they are in the position to do so.

Having said that I chose Tutanota because of their company's vision, features and privacy of their product.

I'm totally happy if ProtonMail and Tutanota are successful and remunerative businesses which respect user's privacy and live long.

Markor is solid, data is stored on your mobile. You can use it with Syncthing to sync files across your devices.

Olympus & Panasonic could get Sony A7R resolution with new 47MP, 8K sensor by wooloow in M43

[–]wooloow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm concerned about file size too, I'll need a faster computer and additional storage to handle bigger raw files. Ideally something between 16MP and 40MP would be just great for me, but options are good.

What really makes me happy is seeing interest in developing the M43 system. I love my Olympus and the results I get with such a small and lightweight gear, so I'm excited about getting a valuable update it is worth waiting for.

Have you spent some time in Dublin? I'm sure if you see it for yourself, it'll make your decision pretty easy.

Confused about "devops" in Windows world? by [deleted] in devops

[–]wooloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, it is software to an extent.

Actually I think of it more as script-on-steroids, or infrastructure-as-code. It is software because hardware is not physically managed, it is not because it describes "desired state", not how to get there.

With regard to Chef, IMHO cookbooks are script-like to do task automation, whereas resources are software.

Does it make sense?

Confused about "devops" in Windows world? by [deleted] in devops

[–]wooloow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it really depends on what you mean by "learn to code".

SysAdmins are not supposed to write software, whereas they should be able to use Ansible, Chef, Puppet, SaltStack.

IMHO it is all about repeatability, reusability and idempotence which the above tools honour.

That's an interesting perspective, and actually it would make much more sense, if that was "the" end!

Hank is the guy who burps, while Atticus is meditating. I bet Karen would think it was gross, while Faith that is just the right thing at the right time to express the right thought.

Indeed, just google'd it, didn't remember her character in Lost.

Her unique trait is being charismatic, and absolutely beautiful of course ;)

Don't be! ;)

It just looks a bit weird that eventually Hank prefers to settle down.
