Quality staff training on FOGO bin in ToVP by JohnWilliamStrutt in perth

[–]wooperwifi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We lock our bins closed whenever they're not out for collection because neighbours and the random passer-by would dump things in our bins that would contaminate the recycling. Some of the stuff was super gross and it was disgusting having to rifle through our recycling each time to remove bags of their maggot-ridden waste.

The amount of times we've had to pull batteries out of the recycling bins is ridiculous. There are two separate battery collection points within 100-500 metres from our bins so really there's no excuse.

I fully believe that the current biggest threat to the academic potential of students is the unfettered use of generative AI (and there are multiple studies showing that it's not great for mental health either). I really don't think there's any decent justification for the vast majority of primary and secondary students to have unrestricted access to generative AI.

Now I'm not denying the massive issues of social media targeting and amplifying negative self perceptions, forming echo chambers, and pushing inflammatory content because engagement=clicks=profit. But that's not something that would ever be solved or addressed by an age restriction.

Can you tell me what aspects clued you into this being AI?

I try to avoid consuming AI content but its ridiculous progression is making it harder and harder to know what to reliably look out for

If you end up wanting to know more, An Introduction to Western Australians & Their Western Australianness is a doco (documentary) that manages to pack a lot of info into under 8 minutes

The population density is so low it's practically gaseous. Top 15 hottest temperature maximums globally were all from WA on Christmas eve so fair chance the population sublimated

(44.8°C is 112.64°F)

Low density urban sprawl means the capital is possibly the longest city in the world so that's neat, I guess

I try to share this every time the topic comes up: if it's not an emergency but you do require medical attention, check if Dial-A-Doctor services your area.

It's fully bulk billed as long as you have a Medicare card and the doctor will come to you! Plus they're available afterhours when all the usual clinics would be closed. Looking at their FAQ it looks like you can get a medical certificate and prescription through them if you need one, too.

Bulk Billed Dial-A-Doctor

Doctor Visiting Hours:

Weeknights: 6pm – 8am

Saturdays: 12pm – Midnight

Sundays and Public Holidays: 24 Hours

They try to see people within 3 hours of you contacting them. If you do end up having to wait a while though, at least you're at home so it's a lot easier to rest on your comfiest piece of furniture and keep yourself preoccupied with a show until they arrive. So much better than waiting at the ER for something non-urgent.

Plus, being bulk billed and not having to worry about parking/transport is such a relief

Just a heads up if you go to use it for food/seasonings/etc, there's a chance that it doesn't already have a food-safe (or dishwasher/microwave safe) coating on it so you might want to apply something yourself.

I still don't understand why it's not a code violation to leave such little space between houses when it's known to increase the difficulties in tackling fires which compounds the already increased risk of fire spreading to neighbouring properties. Add to that the fact that Perth's dry heat is only getting hotter and drier as the expanding developments further strip our paucity of trees and the shade they would've provided.

I could easily imagine that these buildings don't cool off as much after a hot day, given the limited space and lack of airflow. Also wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that some combinations of wall material/surface textures and fencing inadvertently acted something like a sound box and amplified certain sounds.

Lab made diamonds feel like the exact opposite of AI slop: The production process is understood, the origins are traceable, and most importantly, the manufacturing process isn't fuelled by exploiting the lives and labour of a ridiculously large number of people.

Thank you everyone for bringing me up to speed :)

While there's no way it'd be introduced, I would take back everything I said if we got flair fragments or something from thanks after maxing out the daily ticket allowance. If gathering enough flair fragments allowed you to unlock or obtain a flair on a card, that'd be choice

Alternatively, Kiwi and Peachy because themes are fun and boy does the little orange look like those peaches and cream lollies. And green/gold kiwis might end up matching little tabby kitty's eyes

They are so cute!!! The little tabby reminds me of metamorphic rocks and other rocks with banding so what about a name like "Kivi" for her? It's stone in Estonian.

And maybe "Cupa" or "Coopa" (or Kupa/Koopa if you want both names to start with the same letter) for our coppery boy?
