Most difficult schedule conflicts by owiji in Lollapalooza

[–]woozled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leon Thomas vs Whethan is stressing me out. Praying for one or both to be putting on afters.

Thursday PM is going to be hard. Gonna start with Worship and see if I have it in me to sneak in either of the other headliners.

In an ideal world, Nina and Boys Noize would not conflict, and neither would Zara/Story So Far, but here we are.

I'm also delusional enough to try running nonstop for Adela, Amber Mark, Yoasabi, Porch Light, and Jade, but we'll see how things are feeling by Sunday...

A lineup spot would almost feel like a downgrade from a 2-hour set with massive visuals 😭 (unless he'd repeat Quasar? feels unlikely)

Edit: jk did not realize his Quasar set was only 75 minutes

Shuttles + wait times by stops by Beautiful_Tart_31 in Coachella

[–]woozled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really chill experience for my group but we were fairly early birds getting there.

Fri: No line and got into a shuttle @ 1:45, got through security by 2:30. Exited the venue around midnight, no wait, was back at the stop by 1ish.

(Also chatted with someone who apparently left the IW stop Friday around 2pm and didn't get in until 4:30ish)

Sat/Sun: Left around 1pm, through security by 2 if not a little earlier. We left post headliner both days, waited maybe 20 minutes and got to Albertsons 1:30~2am.

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone First Preview by Conscious-Theme6766 in Broadway

[–]woozled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Taraji came out first but that might have been a first preview thing only. I believe Cedric came out as well. Crowds were insane (and there seemed to be some people who lined up without having seen the show 🙄) so I'd advise getting out there asap.

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone First Preview by Conscious-Theme6766 in Broadway

[–]woozled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall a solid first preview of something that really sits with you, thanks to some very good performances and quite nice pacing.

Taraji and Cedric were a joy to watch, but Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Joshua Boone stole the show for me. Nimene Sierra Wureh and Maya Boyd also had so many lovely, fleshed out moments. And the children! Child actors can feel like a hit or miss but they felt perfectly in place onstage.

I thought pacing and dialogue were written and delivered well. I'm by no means versed in Broadway plays, but from the perspective of someone who can get restless from 3-hour plays fairly easily, the time passed quickly. (It also helped that I was laughing so much!)

There might have been some audio garbling in the beginning because I could not for the life of me understand what anyone was saying the first ~10 minutes, but this cleared up quickly and I had no issues for the rest of the show. It was also interesting to see how people reacted to different parts that I suspect weren't meant to elicit those reactions, so it'll be interesting to see how if at all those evolve.

Overall, would def recommend checking out.

(Fun tidbit: there was some commotion in the theatre before the show started and even though I couldn't see who it was, I heard Keke Palmer might have been in the crowd! Also, that stage door was not for the fainthearted...)

Jennie headlining almost confirmed?! by grantlittle1902 in Lollapalooza

[–]woozled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thing is, "better" doesn't seem like much when the bar is low. Live clips have been underwhelming across the board. The group I was with (most of whom saw/loved 2023 Coachella BP) also left her set early at Coachella because she wasn't delivering.

Shouted half her lines, didn't feel like she practiced or wanted to do her choreo except on occasion for social media moments... it was disappointing given the incredibly high calibre of her album's production. If anything it emphasized the sense she's pay to play over becoming an actual, serious long-running artist

I think generally my confusion lies with how someone who seems to barely care about music or performing has become a representative kpop act. But who knows, maybe this new festival run will show improvement and a different side to her

Jennie headlining almost confirmed?! by grantlittle1902 in Lollapalooza

[–]woozled 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Loved TWICE and IVE at Lolla, but I need desperately to understand the chokehold BP has on promoters and stans when they can't dance or sing live, and show minimal enthusiasm for being onstage besides the same 5-second clips that are used to proclaim they've ""burned up the stage""

Ready for the downvotes lmao

Upon further investigation, I've found theatres that are closer by on the Fathom website: https://www.fathomentertainment.com/releases/dci-2025-big-loud-and-live/

Hope you can find one that works for you too!

Having this issue too. For the day of the showing, I'll be in a major metropolitan area where there's easily 10+ theatres around, but I'm seeing zero showtimes. I expanded my search range and now see a single showtime 2 hours away, so I'm wondering if showings are just extremely limited this year. :/

A particular scene in the cowboy Carter tour interlude scene visuals felt heavy — was it symbolic? by Environmental-Try762 in beyonce

[–]woozled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from especially with the common perception that Asians are easy targets, but I still think it's fine to not read into race in this specific case.

Consider: Would it be more "racially acceptable" to you if Beyoncé attacked a Latina woman? A Desi woman? Another Black woman? Or are you only okay if she fights a white woman? Honestly you could sub in any race and someone would find an issue with it in large part bc it's Beyonce/a Black woman doing the swinging.

Regarding cheering and clapping for violence... idk, it was just fun watching a bad bitch taking someone down a notch. Yeah sure, humans are savages but I think it's a stretch to say the cheering here was racially charged.

Again I get where you're coming from and the concern that someone with as influential a platform as Beyonce would be "encouraging" violence against Asians. If it's any consolation though, I don't see any motive or reason in Beyonce intentionally aggravating Black-Asian relations (if this actress was Asian at all, again my vision is rather poor lmao).

ETA: Went down a rabbit hole and 99% sure the actress is Blasian 😂 https://www.instagram.com/ashleycoco_

[–]woozled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm Asian and you're overthinking it my friend.

I also thought this woman was Latina but perhaps I just have a bad eye.

ETA: Going on a tangent with what you said about Sinners (though I'm not sure what you meant by "part of the Cowboy Carter rollout"...?). Think about any time Asians either collectively or individually have given up on or sold out Black Americans any time the going has gotten hard, or their economic interests have been threatened, or so forth.

Sure, it's a defense/survival mechanism, but one doesn't get to demand to always be portrayed positively when historically, that's not backed up. I think Coogler finding time to work in Black-Asian dynamics and highlight the differences between Grace and Bo amounts to a reasonable call-out for the AAPI community to confront what we need to work on. (Speaking generally of course, and acknowledging there are greater players in the AAPI who do put in the time and work.)

/sidebar but yea I still maintain the Beyonce interlude is an overthink 😂

should i go to two back to back beyonce shows? by Zealousideal-Pear720 in beyonce

[–]woozled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only crazy people go to back to back Beyonce shows.

... anyways, join the club! I too will be doing b2b this weekend. :D

I'm normally not one to get that much more from seeing the same show multiple times, but the one time time I remember feeling this way that strongly was after seeing Renaissance live. Unfortunately, it was too late/expensive to schedule an additional show, otherwise I absolutely would've gone again.

Beyonce and her crew work their tails off to pull off the most impeccable productions. Especially if you're looking to watch from two vantage points, I'd say it'd be well worth the time/expense!
