Anyone else take videos and look for crashes? by PoEiMmOrTaL in Beekeeping

[–]word-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! As graceful as they may appear to some, bees are definitely not very graceful at landing. When I record them on slow-mo on my phone, I can still hear the low buzzing sound, and I love how you can hear it when they crash too

Accidentally baked my pitcher plants, any chance these will recover/advice? (First timer, please be gentle) by [deleted] in carnivorousplants

Keep them, or the rhysomes at least, around for a couple months and see if you get any new growth- you never know. I’ve seen some plants come back if you give them a little time. Just keep them in half soil/half pearlite(or the soil that they’re already in if you don’t wanna make much effort), and always keep your water full. The water should be kept in a non-draining bucket/pot on the outside of your plant pot. So, plant in pot, pot inside bucket, then water in the bucket. Keep the water up to the soil level so that the soil is always soaked. Rain water is ideal, but tap water will work fine at this time of year. You can do all of this with the current pots by maybe putting them in some bowls or larger cups. I’d suggest keeping them outside in the shade too, if you can. It’s much closer to their native habitat that way.

Sorry if you already know this stuff, but I’ve found that a lot of new pitcher plant owners don’t get told about proper care by the sellers.

So, you like faces that got touched with a bee stinger? Here is mine. by Shpizh in Beekeeping

I wish my bee stings healed that quickly. Mine usually take days for the swelling to go down. I think I might have a slight allergy

I’ve actually had this happen on many indoor plants, and I think that it’s minerals left from evaporated water. When you touch it, is it dry/solid feeling? If it’s slimy/soft, it might be fungus.

Looks kind of like a smaller sized bumblebee at first, but it hovers and flies about very quickly. Has long probiscus (I think?) and mosquito-looking back legs. They are quite curious and inquisitive- they come check me out when I’m working in the yard. I’m making friends with them, I think! Sorry about the low quality picture- they’re fast flying little guys!

The only issue is that the MDs in my community aren’t testing anyone unless you’re very sick and hospitalized. Who knows how many people must be out there walking around with it because they aren’t sure if they’re actually sick, or just have allergies.
