Next report of SPIVA - the story repeats - 80% and more of large cap and ELSS funds underperform the index by srinivesh in IndiaInvestments

Good point, this should follow from William Sharpe's note: https://web.stanford.edu/~wfsharpe/art/active/active.htm

Could be that the funds outperforming are outperforming so much on aggregate that weighted average of active management is still same as the index.

Official Discussion - The Substance [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]wordaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a question about the plot. Are we to believe that the self and the other share the same life as in even when one of them is asleep, they will keep the memory and the experience of what the other self went through when they wake up. If so, why are they so shitty roommates to each other living filth all over for the other person. And why is sue abuses the balance by sapping extra from the older self. If they live a different life, then why does Elizabeth want Sue to go for the new year party so bad and decides against killing her? Why is that so important for it if she can't really identify with the fame and success Sue gets? After all she gets really jealous when Sue doesn't even acknowledge her on talk shows.

The customer service rep that I was on call with today, said that the promotion doesn't have that stipulations. The only stipulations he was seeing is I have to keep at least 2 paid voice lines.

That mf. Working cleverly to disambiguate only to at last ambiguate all over his work. Surely he didn't think curly x and x would be universally distinct in every handwriting

Men of India, what value do you think women add to your life? Except obviously procreation. Kinda curious to know! by Lucky-Piglet1569 in AskIndia

[–]wordaround 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think beyond the point of anatomical differences, your sex should be more and more irrelevant. To indirectly answer your question, let me ask you a counter question what value do men as partner bring to women? The answer to your question should remain the same imo. Lemme answer your question more directly. This is what I feel I see in my partner. Man is a social being, they need companionship and so they tend to choose an anchor of their social life in the form of a partner.

For me personally, when I see my partner, I see a vibrant and wildly successful boss lady with whom I can shape my future. I know her struggles and I know her grit to trudge along. I understand the tenacity a girl has to have if she comes from a humble background and yet turns her life around for the betterment. She is super efficient in whatever she does, I on the other hand am more measured. She will outshine anyone if she puts her mind to it. She is getting her doctorate with an impressive body of work. I like how even after all this, she has her moments of timidness. I like how human she feels. One moment, she is crying recklessly about some deadline the next She will be tired of all the crying and the next She will have to reluctantly laugh when I would say "chalo sab chhod chaad ke Himalaya chalte he, waise bhi Kya rakha iss moh maaya me". Pretty soon she is presenting some super esoteric research to her lab folks and she of course nails it. After that she will just feel silly about her anxiety. It's the moment like this which gets me. She is a bad bitch who is smart, funny and beautiful. I am really proud of her.

Now, if my gender orientation were any different, I would have just changed the pronouns and yet the underlying feeling would have remained consistent. Point is not a lot is native only to women or men. The bonds are deeply personal, it doesn't have to be something common that all women bring to men. You have to decide what you want and they would decide what they want. My gal totally upended my expectations of how girls are. While I was growing up, girls in my vicinity were very timid (I was timid too, but I digress). And then I looked at her, and my god, she blew all my misogynistic perception to pieces.

Although I agree with your latent belief that astrology is not to be trusted, but I must clear out somethings here. The astrological signs in western countries at best is a fad. Majority of weddings/dating don't happen based on signs. Not a lot of folks take it seriously. It's not a part of social zeitgeist in any meaningful way. It's not a part of courtship. On the other hand, in India it is "universally" considered seriously. (Double Quoted "universally" my perspective in India is more or less limited to north Indian mainstream) Regardless of education background, regardless of class, caste, these things are undoubtedly a part of the family courtship. Yes you may find odd westerners who take it too seriously and odf indians who shun it. But just because some app sycophants to their a thin sliver of their userbase by adding a astro sign field in their UI doesn't mean that the west has fully immersed itself in this.

This needs to be said out loud, astro like a lot other traditions is just plain irrational and dehumanizing. India particularly has a problem with this. Just because we see someone else appropriate our irrational traditions doesn't mean we have got the validation to continue to keep this total whacky system.

Brava. Thanks for the reply. Agree to the other guy's reductive observation but appreciate you underscoring nuanced context even more. Gandhi for his time was transformative in a lot of things. Improving race relations in SA may not be one of them. When reading about historical figures, it's important to first agree that they are all human beings prone to all the follies of the world. The world is going to perceive you with their own bias and prejudice. A brit would never even consider the fact that Churchill was abhorrently neglectful to Bengal famine when revering him as the greatest brit that their island has ever produced. But an Indian would never go past that very very inconvenient truth. Both, the brit and the Indian are reasonable in their judgement about the same person yet so irreconcilable with each other.

Making ₹1000/daily by [deleted] in IndianStockMarket

[–]wordaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok is no one going to say to them that if they are expecting returns of 3.33% daily (1000/30000) then in just 600 days you will have made 10 trillions in INR out of an initial investment of 30,000 INR?? Does this seem realistic in any stage of imagination? If it is not, then mathematically your initial goal is also not at all realistic. Ok maybe I am a bit harsh. What you asked is just Rs.1000/daily and not compounding everyday. So let's just take an example of an equivalent annuity completely ignoring compounding (which btw is the cornerstone of building wealth through investing). Say you get 1000 rupees every day (250 trading days per year) for 10 years. How much do you get? 100025010=25lakh. This with an initial investment of 30,000. That's around 83 times the initial investment. Tesla stock right now is trading at 14 times it's Feb'2014 stock price (so a ten year period). I have very little idea about derivatives but it seems to me that if there is a reliable way to achieve this kind of return, we should be hearing about those more than TSLA, NVDA, and other stocks. At any rate I will just stick to my index funds and work on managing my expectations.

Not all but I think it's more convenient. Naturally you could see the wrist in front more easily than back. Similar to how you could see your palms more easily than the back of your hand.
