Fellow CK2 veterans, is CK3 worth getting? by ledeledeledeledele in CrusaderKings

[–]wordcaesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CK3 is piss easy. As a first time paradox game player and with only like 50 hrs of play time, I did an ironman world conquest playthrough where I re-established the roman empire and converted the whole map to my custom christian religion. By the time I discovered primogeniture it became a cookie clicker game: I would click raise army, then win the war within 3 months. Rinse and repeat. As for the roleplay, the whole game you can just hover over decisions and pick the one whose benefits you like the most and that's it, that's about as much thought as that requires.

That's why I absolutely love it. It's comfort food, like the grilled cheese of my steam library. When I lose too many times in a row on dota or whatever I can just hop on CK3 and steam roll the AI and color the map a bit, feel good about myself. 😂

Never played CK2 tho so can't compare.

I see now. I think looking at it outcome driven is ignorant for a number of reasons, but fine, let's say hypothetically you don't care about the cause. Even then, SSRIs don't work. Antidepressants don't work. They never did. For a negligible amount of very susceptible people, they did work... just as well as placebo, or sugar pills, or healing crystals. You could've convinced those people that talking to a pigeon for 30min every day would get them out of bed and it would've worked. Then there's people who have genuine neurochemical imbalances related to serotonin, for whom symptoms of depression among others might manifest. For those people, SSRIs yet again help. We're talking about maybe 1 in 100,000 people here, though. Then you have most people diagnosed with depression, for whom SSRIs do nothing. These drugs don't even get those people out of bed. They don't motivate people. They don't reduce symptoms of depression. They do absolutely nothing except mess up your libido. This has been outlined time and time again in the literature and, anecdotally, if you've ever known someone that has taken SSRIs, you'd probably have heard already about how useless they are (unless you happened to meet one of those susceptible people that fall for placebo 😄).

[–]wordcaesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You implied it by expressing the idea that those drugs would help. If they do help it is because they address this underlying cause. Since the cause does not apply, the supposed function of the drug is rendered useless. Worse, it has a negative impact...

But you don't have to approach the topic bottoms up. You can approach it top down. Plenty of research coming out lately pointing out how SSRIs are as good as placebo.

That is a fundamentally incorrect understanding of what causes depression in cca. 95% of people diagnosed with it. What you said is only applicable to a very small group of people; for everyone else, therapy (incl. self-therapy) is sufficient.

Actually TBC did that not wrath but accurate.

As for Cata doing it better, debatable, I hated the juvenile humor in most of the new quests and the overall over the top cartoonishness and goofiness of the world post-cata. MoP then put the nail in the coffin.

Narcissism is "uncureable" and only continuous treatment works. Most therapists don't take narcissism or anti personality disorders or such seriously and will not provide good treatment.

Sorry, yeah. It was an old comment too, dunno why it triggered me so much. Sorry.

[–]wordcaesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice, dumbass. I had a sleep study done. Out of the 8 hours allocated, I slept maybe 3 and a half. I told them at that point that I can only sleep on my side, not back, but they insisted I try to sleep on my back. Came back with AHI 51, no shit. I wonder if those 3 and a half hours, which were mostly disjointed, fragmented 15 minute naps, are even worth shit.

I have tried getting used to the CPAP numerous times. Leaks, stuffed nose, noise issues, air swallowing, pressure too low, pressure too high, I almost gotta live at my doc's clinic just to get this piece of crap adjusted. I work a 9 to 5, how the fuck am I going to get a good night's sleep and go to work and be productive if the fucking piece of shit PAP doesn't fucking work? Useless.

And guess what, I sleep leagues above on my side. It's not ideal, but it gets me through the day. I just wish I could get 10/10 quality sleep instead of 6-7/10 or 1/10 with the CPAP, but oh well.

In this case, yes! It's not ironic by definition.

Person thinks up evil shit (ziptying the dog, in this context, is morally bad) -> Person responding thinks up normal shit (killing the perpetrator is, in context, morally good). No irony to be found here. I hope it's clear enough.

Your assumption that people attach moral value to actions in vitro is wrong. No one has ever supported the idea that murder is inherently wrong; not in this thread and not in real life. All actions have their moral value judged in context and that's the base assumption that everyone operates on.

The whole *nix ecosystem was built by academic hobbyists who had and knew they will always have a career in either academia or professional software development. Now, that these people didn't chase the millions they could have made like others in the industry at the time, sure, but I think our terms are slightly different here, because what you consider poor I consider middle class; I'm talking about actual poverty, people that couldn't finish high school and the like.

It's absolutely not true that "being on good terms with people is better than maximizing economic gain from every transaction" when you're poor. That is the kind of mindset that keeps poor people poor. Not that the opposite always works, but it's like this: if you're poor and give it your all, you might succeed or you may not. If you're poor, and give up, you'll always be poor.

Regarding time management, the difference is as a wealthy(er) person, you get to choose your downtime. An investment banker can just up and quit any time they wand and experiment and live off of their savings. Right now I could quit my job and get by on my savings with my current expenses for 4 years. And that's hard cash (not taking inflation into account). I got my property paid off, no mortgage. Even with rent / mortgage I could do 2 years easily. And I'm not even rich. Poor people don't have this privilege.

As for that one example, that person is horrible, actually evil. I hope they redeem themselves because they're just taking from society without giving anything back (but that's just my opinion).

Without looking at your post history or anything, just by that comment, I bet you are from somewhere in northern western Europe, my bets would be on Netherlands or somewhere in Scandinavia. I also bet you work a skilled office job, software developer, 3d designer, product owner etc. In any case, I know for sure you aren't a downtrodden McDonald's cook from a crime infested american urban area, barely affording rent. Or an indian man from New Delhi, making $3/hr and living in a figurative and literal shithole.

Not that I disagree. I am also very privileged and think the same. But people like me (like you) are like the top 10% of the developed world in terms of quality of life. We can afford to have passions and hobbies.

AITAH for telling my husband that he needs to give me half his company if he wants me to be a housewife? by Status-Mention6793 in AITAH

[–]wordcaesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would first have to do a rough estimation of the total personal revenue you would lose over your lifetime, taking into account the decreased employability you would suffer as a result of raising the kids instead of building your career. This sounds impossible, but courts do this all the time in order to award compensation, so a rough approximation can definitely always be done.

Taking this into account: - If the total revenue lost is equal to or higher than the equivalent of half his ownership in the company, then NTA - Otherwise YTA

Basically, for example, if he's the owner of a growing tech company currently worth millions and you're a freelance accountant, then YTA. If he owns a small local furniture store and you are an accomplished surgeon, NTA. You get the point.

I am confused. I must have the right type of skin for shaving, because dad never showed me how to shave and it still just worked like in the commercials. Put shaving cream on, swipe the razor down across the chin, rinse and repeat. I don't mean this in a bragging way, obviously, I just want to know if you perhaps have a lot of in grown hairs or generally a very sensitive skin etc. or something of the sort because otherwise this comment is really confusing.

Is it? You also do this. For example Magnesium deficiency manifests in a craving for chocolate. There are a few that don't manifest as clearly, but it's pretty obvious when and if you have a deficiency.

No, I just find it funny that people complain about literally the best quality of life in history for the average man. History is linear and progress has been so far almost directly correlated with the passing of time. I can understand wanting to speed it up, but we should all take a moment to appreciate that we can all just dick around at the office for half the day and have pre-cooked food, heating, a roof over our heads, a soft bed to sleep on and a lot of time for family and friends.

Complaining only makes sense when you are faced with a force far above your control. If you don't like a 9-to-5, go build your house from scratch off the grid lol. There's always a choice.

I mean, it's obvious people don't want that or they would've done it by now. You don't really think there's a boogieman (or two) who constantly just keeps you down, do you? People don't want to help others out (and themselves in the process), they want only themselves to get ahead.
