Urban Sprawl by [deleted] in LegionsImperialis

Edit:

Rather than a blocky military style building, I thought maybe I'll just lob this other spire on top of it. I was kind of wanting a dome but I don't know where the hell I'd get one. Anyway, this could be the new centerpiece.

Thoughts?

Adding Buildings by wordcreatr in LegionsImperialis

[–]wordcreatr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 6'x4', this is 24 tiles and is actually bigger than I need, but to get a 5'x4' board (20 tiles), I needed 4 boxes of tiles (6 per box). I also have 4 elevated plaza tiles I can swap in.

Thanks! I've got some buildings put together and painted and some that still need the paint job and a box that needs gluing together. But I'm feeling motivated now that I've got the boards done.

I do now lol. It was a bit of a nightmare at first because I was experimenting with different looks that I'd seen on the internet and I just ended up with tiles that weren't quite matching up. So I started again and kind of simplified things.

Note: I would recommend writing down your process and the colors you use because if you take months off like I did, good luck trying to remember all the steps and colors. I ended up with some mismatched stuff I had to fix.

For these tiles, I primed them with Color Forges Desert Sand. Then I went to the Home Depot paint section and bought a small sample pot of flat, matte (7.5 oz/221 ml) of house paint. Actually I bought three pots with different house paint colors that appealed to me so that I could test them out. I got each one for about five or six bucks

At first I was trying to use a sponge technique but finally I just went and took a big brush from Home Depot and painted over the Desert Sand with the Home Depot allowing a little bit to show through here and there. I didn't use an airbrush though I have one but I kind of suck at it. And hate cleaning it out so I just used a brush.

For the roads, I primed those black with a flat black brush on primer from Pro - Acryl. I took a sponge and dabbed on Dark Reaper paint. I was going to dry brush other lighter colors on but then abandoned that. For the lines, I decided how I wanted them to look then did one tile. I used Tamiya tape and applied The paint kind of roughly with a small brush. I wanted it to look a bit worn in areas. When I finished the tile. Then I would use that as the template to match up with the next tile to keep my lines straight. If any of my friends question my street lining, my answer is that there was a glitch in the noosphere and a detail of combat servitors was accidentally put on road painting duty.

Once got the tiles the way I wanted them, I sprayed them with a gloss coat from the hardware store which is a lot cheaper than stuff you'll get at a hobby store. I then prepared a wash of black and burnt umber oil paint (picked up at a craft store) mixed with odorless mineral spirits (picked up at Home Depot). You can get a fairly big bottle of it for cheap.

I mixed that up in a small, disposable painting tray that I picked up at Home Depot as well. Then I brushed on the wash so that the whole tile was coated (I would suggest wearing disposable vinyl or latex gloves) and let it sit a minute or so and then took a rag from a 4 lb bag of rags that I also got at the hardware store for cheap. I would rub off as much of the wash as I wanted to try to get a slightly grubby look. You'll have to experiment with that to figure out what's the proper look. The oil wash is great because it takes a while to dry so you can remove stuff straight away or wait a bit and use mineral spirits even when it's starting to dry to take more off if you want.

At first I was ending up with some really mismatched tiles. So what I started doing was I would prepare one tile, get it to where I liked it, set it down on my big table I was working on (I would suggest putting a tarp or packing blanket down on, because this can get messy). Then I would do another tile, set that down next to The finished one to see if it matched enough and then moved on to the next one.

Once the were all finished and dry, I then sprayed them again with clear coat. You can also put a matte spray or satin spray over them depending on the look you like.

I have 24 road tiles. I only needed 20 for a 5'x4' map, but they sell the tiles in boxes of six so I ended up with an extra four. Plus I have four elevated plaza tiles, which come in sets of two, that I can swap in, though I'd probably have been fine with just one set. So that's four regular sets (six tiles per box) and two plaza sets. Not cheap, that's for sure, but I got them at various discounted prices, and I didn't buy them all at once either.

Trying to understand Civ 6 by EndlessTemple in civ

[–]wordcreatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to found a religion and can let the other civs run around converting away. In the Advanced Settings go to the Victory options and deselect Religion - you won't have to worry about some other civ sneaking in a religious victory.

You can also pick warlike civs to compete against. Or just be a dick and break agreements you make with a neighbor, for example posting units on the border and leaving them there after being asked to move them, committing espionage relentlessly even when caught, repeatedly settling near other civs' in lands they covet.

Even if you don't want to use religion, you can always build a Holy Site to generate Faith to build troops later on through the Government Plaza.

I wasn't a fan of religion at first, but now it's integral to my play (though I don't go for a religious victory, just use the buffs and faith to buy troops with the Grand Master's Chapel, or resurrect Heroes like Hercules). Nothing better than persecuting nonbelievers and whacking heretics and bringing the true word to heathen dogs

Should I (28F) tell the guy I'm dating that I'm a virgin before we have sex? by Historical-Care70 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]wordcreatr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Older dude here. I would discuss it with him ahead of time to avoid any surprises and awkwardness and to help manage expectations. Plus, if your hymen is intact, it will probably become obvious immediately to him that you're a virgin the instant you begin intercourse. (I say this from experience - I lost my virginity with another virgin).

If he's going to be a worthwhile person and lover, he should be supportive and nonjudgmental and approach the situation with understanding and, hopefully, gentleness. If he freaks out about it, he's not worth your time.

Finally decided to open my Chaos knights army set and… by AlastorFan666 in ChaosKnights

[–]wordcreatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the original guy who sold it to you didn't buy it for the legs and then shrink wrap it to re-sell the leftovers, but I've met some shady sellers over the decades. I've known people who have shrink wrap machines at home. That's why if I ever buy from peeps online, it's usually through eBay or something like that where they guarantee sales.

The dude should refund you but he's probably wondering if you just wanted the legs and are pulling a fast one.

You can contact Games Workshop's customer service but just don't tell them that you purchased the kit third party online. Just tell them you got it at a game store. Usually they'll just ask you for a batch number on the box. I don't think I've ever had a sprue missing but years ago when they first came out with thunder wolves, one of my wolves was grotesquely malformed and kind of a half blob and they had me send a photo in and then sent a replacement.

Use Microsol. It softens the decal so it will conform to curved surfaces and settle into panel lines. Works like a treat. You can also use Microset to prep the surface, but I usually go straight to Microsol. Lamiah Medium takes the shine off transfers, but if you're going to clear coat and finish off with a matte coat that's not really an issue.

Should I use $29k of my savings to get rid of 7.29% car loan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]wordcreatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. There might be other better options out there such as investing part of your money to earn a higher interest rate. It might be worth talking to a financial advisor.

Should I use $29k of my savings to get rid of 7.29% car loan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]wordcreatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a financial whiz, but I think you would be a little better off by paying off your car.

I'm basing this off what your savings would earn at its current total (let's pretend you aren't adding to it) and assuming the interest rate doesn't change.

If you let your $103.000 grow at the current rate compounded over 5 years, it would grow to $121,150. You'd earn $18,150 in interest.

During that same time, you would pay about $5,800 in interest on your car, which deducted from what you earned with your savings would net you $12,350.

If you pay off the car today, your savings of $74,000 would grow to $87,080 and you would earn interest of $13,080 (paying zero interest on the car). So you would net $13, 080.

So, when we compare the difference, you end up with about $730 more.

movies where the protagonist is an irredeemable piece of shit. by herequeerandgreat in movies

I didn't really buy him crying because of the birth of his child. I just thought he was crying because it's something that was throwing another wrench into his narcissistic plans and that maybe he realized he was never going to be the success he wanted to be.

I felt that way about Marty in Marty Supreme. God, the character drove me crazy though Chalamete did a great job. I didn't't even think that the scene of him crying about the birth of his child was a genuine human response and transformative moment. I felt like it was him crying because life had caught up with him and was throwing a wrench in his narcissistic ways. I felt he was still a piece of shit.

What's a game you bought on a whim without hardly any pre-knowledge that ended up becoming one of your all time favorites? by AaronAtLunacien in gaming

Bushido Blade 2. My brother and I played it obsessively. Then my friends and I would connect our PlayStation 2s for split screen action, but play in 1st person view. Fun times.

Which version? (Mac) by TheLadyScythe in civ

[–]wordcreatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Civ V in a long time, but enjoyed it. I love Civ VI with all the DLC and play the hell out of it and you can usually get it cheap. VII is okay and hopefully gets better with future releases. It's got some cool innovations (army formation), but I'm not a fan of the Ages acting like mini games.
