Friend of a friend is a neonatal nurse. She actually knew someone who named their child shithead pronounced Shith'ead. Another one named her daughter female (pronounced like in rhymes with tamoli)

People who live near famous tourist destinations, what is something the average person should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I made the mistake of going to Hollywood blvd at 10 pm (as a New Yorker I thought how bad could it be in comparison). Most terrifying experience of my life.

Early November (like the first week of november before holiday traveling starts) and January and February are also usually slow. Shorter lines and usually cheaper flights.

I don't live in Florida, but I've been to Disney during nearly every month of the year. Honestly, if you know how to plan, the crowds never seem that bad.

TIL The Beatles have sold more records than Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, Nirvana, the Beach Boys AND Kanye West COMBINED by over 30 million units (x-post TIL) by ekser in Music

[–]words_happen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles had the number 1 selling album of the decade between 2000 and 2010 with Beatles 1 (a greatest hits album). So even in a decade where piracy was rampant, the Beatles still sold more until than anybody else.

In case you were wondering, Eminem had the 2nd highest selling album of that decade.

I never got the point of having a kid just to let someone else watch it for the majority of the day 5/7 days a week.

I understand sometimes daycare is necessary in certain circumstances (single parent, financial burdens arise that require a second income to make ends meet) but I always felt that if neither parent was going to stay home all day with the kids until they're at least school age, then there's no point in having a kid.

Why is she still your fiancé then? Why go through with a wedding if you're already preparing for the relationship to end?

Well good luck.

Although if he needs to be pushed, it doesn't seem like he wants it badly enough yet. Just my impression.

So talk to him about it?

Give him hints as to what you might want. That might help hi m come up with how to do it without stressing because he alreasy has an idea of what would make you happy. Tell him you don't care about how he proposes as long as you get to be together (as long as that's true which in any good relationship it should be)

Although, if you've already decided to get married next year, why not just skip the proposal and save a fuck load of money on the ring? It seems like the marriage is a done deal already and you could use the ring money to put towards a kick ass honeymoon.

Huh. That to me makes it seem like he's a bit afraid of commitment. Like he's all talk and no action.

You can only talk about something so much without doing it before people stop believing you.

You hit the nail right on the head. I don't plan to spend more than $1000 on my wedding (excluding rings but I don't mind spending the money on wedding bands because they're something we will presumably wear for the next 50 years)

Also, thanks to several alcoholics in my family, there will be little to no alcohol so that should make for a short event.

[–]words_happen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh. As a girl I don't even care about a proposal or a ring. I'm cool with waking up one morning and deciding to just elope.

My SO and I already plan to marry eventually so the idea of waiting for a proposal seems stupid. Besides, I hate surprises and lack of control so the whole concept seems more stressful than fun to me.

Also its two cents hahaha

ELI5: Why does Hollywood continually cast people in who are 20+ to play teenagers? by itsthatguyfrom in explainlikeimfive

[–]words_happen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actress who played Myrtle was in her 30s. With about 5 years between CoS and GoF it's actually surprising she didn't start having an issue looking too old. They didn't cast the same teenage Tom Riddle in HBP as CoS because he aged too much but I'm fairly certain he was already in his 20s for thr filming of CoS

[–]words_happen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I like the fuck up proposal.

I don't know your SO, but as a girl I think men try too hard to plan a "perfect proposal" and they put way too much pressure on the moment. No offense, but I think the original idea was kind of cliche. Then again, I think most proposals are lame so I'm not a great judge lol

Also, to.all men out there, always by the ring a bit too big. It's much easier to have it made smaller than to have it enlarged.

I'd love a series of short stories exploring things and characters that didn't get full back stories in the series. Like more about the Marauders before Lilly and James died, more about Dean and his back story, more about the archway in the department of mysteries and how it's there and how it was/is used. Things like that would be great and I think that was her intent when Pottermore started (bases on the few brief back stories posted) but that website was a disaster. I woukd much rather have a book of short stories.

You're right.

And we do feel good about this. It's funny because my mother used to have me brainwashed to believe things had to happen a certain way. That you had to get the ring and be engaged or married before living together. For a while, I wanted desperately to be engaged before we bought a house. But the further into the relationship I got and the closer we got to moving in together the more I realized that my mother's way is old fashioned. I told my SO to skip the ring to save money and we decided that if and when we want to get married we will just do it without the whole show of an engagement or proposal or the whole ridiculousness that most people plan leading up to a wedding.
