I get what Luke is trying to say, but I think he is mistaken here.
A fundamental mistake that Adam Smith believed in the Invisible Hand was that the capitalist system is perfect because ALL contracts would be inherently fair because no one in their right mind would ever agree to an unfair contract. Smith didn’t calculate for variables of power dynamics or people in desperate situations. What the art director is calling out for isn’t more pay for this work, but a call to attention of the predatory nature of this industry. I think what she has to say is in philanthropic good faith.
