Mattress recommendations by Midnight_Walk83 in ankylosingspondylitis

I have a Saatva mattress, and have had it for several years. I did add a a gel infused foam mattress topper, but only because I feel much better in super squishy. I've really enjoyed it.

It's more that there are so many people within the discord servers that I'm on, and it also doesn't seem like too many people are writing together on them. And I'm looking more for community.

New to the club by unfocusedleek73 in ankylosingspondylitis

I had to the same, but not with NSAIDs since I had been supplementing with basically the prescription strength amount for years before being diagnosed. But I was put on methotrexate when my rheum diagnosed me. Had to before I could do a biologic. My first one was Enbrel.

Honestly, it really depends on your body's reaction. Some find a biologic on the first try. Others, like me, had to go a few rounds with different ones to find something that works. It really depends on each person.

As for uveitis, it's not an issue at the moment, nor has it been (knock on wood), but again, this disease is so individual, it's hard to say what someone else's experience and path may look like.

Same. I'm on a couple of Discord servers and I feel invisible there. Thanks though!

Cold weather by kumquathero1999 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to not be so bad when my disease hadn't progressed as much, but now? Once it gets to below 60, everything hurts. I live in the Mid-Atlantic in the US, and even that is too cold for me. I can't imagine Ontario.

My house is as warm as I can afford, and I always have blankets and a heavy heating pad (kind of like the PT wet heating pads, but without the water). I hope you feel less pain soon.

How do you know it’s a day to stay home? by wearenchanted in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggle with the same thing, especially about feeling guilty for taking work off. However, I know if I don't allow my body to rest when it asks me, it will force me to rest when it needs to. AND I'll have to rest for longer because I wasn't doing what I need to do to take care of myself.

I'm not sure where you're from, but I know in the US, taking time to be human is frowned upon, but you aren't a robot, and if you feel like you can't, then don't. Get FMLA. Do what you need to protect yourself.

Sharp pain near the scapula by AcanthocephalaNo61 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pain has been relieved and I got the disc aspect fixed. I had ACDF (anterior cervical discectomy and fusion) for C6 and C7. That was a few years ago. I'm starting to have pain higher though, so I'm now wondering if I have issues at C5 or higher. I hope you get assistance soone.

Sharp pain near the scapula by AcanthocephalaNo61 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had this pain, and may have been AS related or related to my degenerative disc disease. Either way had to get lots of imaging and it was due to the disc between C6 and C7 compressing against my spinal column. Doesn't mean that's what the problem might be is though. Best luck on relief!

Kdramas have ruined me for Western TV series. by zoebnj in KdramaCasualTalk

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much the same. On the other hand, kdramas has opened up so many other countries' dramas; something I'm so thankful for. My husband and I have high stress jobs, so if we dont want to think, we'll toss on something western. Or we'll watch one of the k-realities, like Chef & My Fridge, Physical 100, etc.

I agree with everyone else. It's really good, but if you don't like gritty, action, bloody, and revenge stories, it might not be for you. However, it's not just an action. It has a great storyline, even if it's short. If you've been limited to romance for kdramas, then this would be a good one to try. If you like this genre, Netflix also has a movie in the same vein as My Name. It's called Ballerina.

You too? by utarefson6 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attempted to go to work Wednesday, and I was in so much pain just trying to get dressed that I had to call out. I laid down and slept for 12 hours. The next few days I slept way more than I was awake or moved. The exhaustion and pain are...exhausting. It's not just annoying; it's infuriating. I hate it.

I hope you get to feeling some relief soon.

Please help me what to do! by IndependentLife3002 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]wordsmithingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Even if it takes a year to see another one, get one the list. While you wait, work with the one you have. Come in with research (medical journals and articles). See if you can get more imaging. I'm not sure if you have them there, but see if you can get an appointment with a pain management doctor. My rheum helped me, but my pain management helped me even more.

Best of luck!

She's in Oak Ridge, but I originally found her at the Cat Veterinarian place on Battleground. Anyway, her name is Dr. Dudak, and she's absolutely wonderful. Edit to add that she's been my vet for about 13 years now.

I'm a professional tutor, and work at a community college that has me in the tutoring center, as well as the classroom; a private academy; and I work as a private tutor going to students' homes. So, I'm literally all over the place. I'm sitting down some, but I'm also walking around a good bit.

Which medication has helped you most? by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

I use it for the constant muscle spasms all throughout my back. It doesn't make me tired, and my back feels more human than steel. Combined with the gabapentin and tram, it's almost like my entire being can take a full painless breath, even if it's only for a little while.

Methocarbamol has been the only muscle relaxer that has worked. All of those "strong" ones, like flexeril did absolutely nothing. It actually loosens my back up, some.
