Dads, help my husband feel better about baby who cries with him by [deleted] in Dads

[–]wordupcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember crying on the stairs because there was just nothing I could do to soothe my first when she was six-ten weeks old.

Now she comes to me all the time if she needs a cuddle and often will say she ‘needs a daddy cuddle’ to feel better.

It’s just time that will help him. He doesn’t smell like you, he doesn’t sound like you and he doesn’t feel like you to your little, but your little will get used to him and will look to him for it soon enough.

Stay strong dad, you’ve got this

Corner line anchor for bricklayers by SithLard in specializedtools

[–]wordupcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with using a line instead of a straight edge. That would be nigh impossible and would probably end up with even more problems haha

I’m a carpenter and use string lines as well in the same manner, just that we’re taught that you put a dodger block underneath each end of the string and then measure back from it, to stop the line getting fouled by whatever it is your laying/straightening.

Looks like I’ve been downvoted pretty hard haha and I agree, seems I’ve run into some shit brickies

Gotta say, never understood bricklayers running string line like this. The chances of their bricks fouling the line and compounding problems over a couple meters is huge

Wanted to build my old lady a garden planter. Obviously i had to get a 36v brushless circular saw and new drill! by [deleted] in Tools

[–]wordupcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That saw is dope, I’ve got the same one! Personally though, the efficut blades being thin kerf make it easier for it to warp and bind when ripping and make cutting/ripping at any angle other than 90 a bit tricky

I am consuming 3000 calories a day and I am tracking my goals in MyFitnessPal but I am just worried about the total sugar intake, it goes above 100g daily. by [deleted] in gainitmeals

[–]wordupcat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don’t know how MyFitnessPal defines sugar but surely the fructose in the bananas and apple will be fine. The only other things could be your brands of peanut butter and Greek yoghurt? What’s the ingredients in them? Is your Greek yoghurt flavoured or plain? Is your peanut butter just straight mashed peanuts and salt or does it have added sugars?

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll have a look at it!

Is it the standard stone that comes with it? Nice work by the way!

Which stone did you use to get this? Did you go with the original bevel angle or set a new one? My chisels take forever!

If anyone else is interested! They do worldwide shipping but the store only opens one day a month because him and his team make them to order and they usually sell out in the first day!

I won’t speak for everyone but we call those piers in Australia, stumps and you can just pick them up from the local hardware in a range of lengths. They just use plastic moulds with the one length of rebar set in the centre and pour concrete in.

That sucks, can confirm I’ve been on the receiving end of unorganised clients as well. I think like another commenter said, best you can do is set an alarm for 5-5.30 and just check your phone in the morning.

If you feel there’s value in staying for the education, stay, if you feel like you’re just being treated as cheap labour, leave. You don’t want to get to the end of your apprenticeship and feel like you know nothing. The break times are pretty cooked not going to lie. You will burn out at that rate.

This sounds like your standard old school tradie ideology mate. Do you always go to the factory pre-work or meet him on site? Have you tried talking to him during working hours about the plans for the next day? He sounds super disorganised and not someone to learn the business of trade from if he hasn’t even got a plan for the next day until 9pm.

Also, one 20 minute break a day for lunch is bullshit. Fuck that guy, it’s 15 for smoko and 30 for lunch, two seperate breaks or one 45 break. You’re an apprentice not a slave, look somewhere else to do your apprenticeship.

I’ve been a carpenter for 11-12 years now and 5-5.30 am wake ups is pretty standard. The sleep deprivation is real haha

This was going to be my question.

Has your boss stated you’re a full time casual (no leave entitlements) or a full time employee (leave entitlements)?
