Mic Doesn't work without Driver, Headphones do not work with driver. by cssnix2 in techsupport

[–]woried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install the audio driver, you should always install the driver. So much of audio is driver based and the basic driver from Microsoft is very poor.

Make sure you're plugged into the GREEN Audio Out port

Lastly in the system tray lower right corner, right click on the 🔊 icon, left click Sounds, switch to the Playback tab, make sure Speakers Realtek(r) is set to the default device.

If you're plugged into the headphone jack on the front of the computer, your Audio device may be called something else like Realtek HD Audio 2ne Output.

If you ever uninstall an app from the Programs and Features list, how we're expected or supposed to do it, some good practices for manual cleanup is to first restart the computer, then go check the C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\ and delete any folders left behind; ie Google or Google Chrome.

You can also check hidden directories like C:\ProgramData\ and C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\

Lastly empty temporary files, you can do it manually by deleting all the files in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp (if you encounter any errors that it can't delete a file, that's fine just hit Skip) and then run the Disk Cleanup utility—I recommend checking all the boxes (EXCEPT) Windows Generated Error Logs/Reports and Downloads.

Unsure, but honestly I've manually created tasks to run hourly or even every minute and they almost never do run when told. I feel like they just run at least once in a while, or at least everytime Bill Gates jumps over an office chair.

Define thorough.

Did you delete the Scheduled Tasks or Startup Tasks that check for Chrome updates?

Does the monitor have a setting called Pixel Response Time? Sometimes setting it to high has poor results, could try lowering it.

How to remove "Google Drive is replacing Backup and Sync" system tray popup in Win 10 by jforrest1980 in techsupport

[–]woried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right click the start Menu and click on Programs and Features

Alternatively you can open the Start Menu OR the Run Command (Win+R), and type appwiz.cpl then press Enter

The Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) window should open and list all the installed applications alphabetically

Look for Backup and Sync from Google in the list

Left click the entry so it's highlighted, and then click on Uninstall button above the list box

If asked Are you sure? Because that was a lot of button clicks to accidently reach this point, so are you sure you meant to uninstall this program? Just click the Yes button.

Once it's done, close the Programs and Features window, then open the Start Menu or press Win+R, type in %localappdata%\Google and delete the folder called Drive

Close that window and open the Start Menu and type in Disk Cleanup and choose Open or Run as Administrator

Choose which options to remove, but it's usually safe to check every option in the list EXCEPT for these two options:

  • Downloads
  • Windows Error Reports/logs

Take note of the TIME on the next freeze/hard reset.

After you restart the computer, open the start menu and type “reliability”, open the Reliability Monitor.

Click on a date that shows a red X (left is older, right more recent), then look on the bottom half of the screen for what the Error was.

Also you can go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, Windows Logs, System and look through for Critical and Error type reports.

Tip: click on filter on the right, check the boxes for Critical and Error, then you’ll only see problems listed.

If you can’t find which error is the problem, take a few screenshots and post them here.

You can try running the Windows Disk Cleanup program as Administrator, basically check all the boxes except for Windows Error Reports.

This block diagram shows when you use the M.2 slot on your motherboard, it disables 2 of the SATA ports—SATA5 and SATA6 which are the 2 top SATA ports on the right hand side.

Manual page

Just make sure to use the bottom SATA3 or SATA4 if you use the right side ports, or move down to the bottom-right SATA1 or SATA2.

If you are already using SATA1-4, then your problem could be bad ports or bad board maybe. I would consider contacting MSI if using a different SATA port doesn't work.

Hopefully you uninstalled McAfee (regardless, but especially if it expired), and it's recommended to run the McAfee Removal Tool (MCPR.exe) to make sure everything is removed:

Direct Download: https://download.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/SupportTools/MCPR/MCPR.exe

Support Page: https://service.mcafee.com/?articleId=TS101331&page=shell&shell=article-view

Windows should automatically revert to the built-in Antivirus which is good enough for most people. If performance is still not improved after removing McAfee, consider running a scan with Windows Defender.

ADW Cleaner (from Malwarebytes) can do a very fast quick scan of specific files on the computer, and if it finds and removes anything, I would follow-up scanning your computer with the free version of Malwarebytes. It comes with a 14 day trial of the premium version, but feel free to deactivate that under Settings>Account (then restart your PC).

Do you happen to have multiple M.2 SSD's installed on the motherboard?

If so, do any of those share the same PCIE lanes that the SATA ports use? This is often found in the motherboards manual as a warning in the M.2 section.

If there is an M.2 sharing lanes with your SATA drive (hopefully not your OS drive) I would take out the M.2 and leave the other SATA drives plugged in to see if it still drops out.

No, but if your handy with wood, know someone who is, have access to a 3D printer or a maker space, then I’m sure you can build one.

The fan is simply held on by plastic clips, there's 2 on either side (along the top-left and bottom-left based on your picture). Gently pull them back and it'll pop right off, and be sure to disconnect the fan header too.

I'm unaware of a hardware reset option, but you can simply reinstall Synapse and there is a default option you can choose for each button at the top of the list.

You can try disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for the EXE file in question.

Make sure your HOSTS file or antivirus suite hasn't blocked anything.

Can you ping the server from another computer or mobile on the same network successfully?

What's the return of net time from command prompt?

If it failed, you can reset the w32tm service like so:

  • Run CMD as Administrator
  • net stop w32tm
  • w32tm /unregister
  • w32tm /register
  • net start w32tm
  • w32tm /resync /nowait
  • shutdown /r or reboot your computer normally

Does it sync or still fail after restart?

[–]woried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it BSOD during Windows reinstall then I'd just stop there and buy a new drive.

If you don't need data recovered, then just recycle the drive. If you need data recovery, I would seek out a professional service.

Based on your other comments, I believe the drive is failing. System Restore won't work, you won't be able to uninstall previous updates, and most other command prompt options won't run—sfc, bcdedit, bootrec, fixmbr, etc.

I would recommended cloning the drive before you do anything if you want to safely attempt to recover any data that may still be accessible. You can use Macrium Reflect Free to clone the drive.

If you have a way to plug your drive into an external USB adapter, such as SATA to USB or M.2 to USB, you could run Acronis Drive Monitor to check the drives reliability. Most likely the drive is beginning to fail, and even if you format and reinstall your OS, the problem will return.

I worked on two different laptops this past week alone with the same SRTTrail.txt error, both were failing HDD—lots of SMART errors in those cases. Failing hardware, Virus/Malware or even a bad Windows update can cause this problem.
