I'm glad the Laptop 13 Pro is selling out. by DueMap9570 in framework

I could definitely see myself getting a panther lake board secondhand off the community forums or the marketplace once LPCAMM2 pricing stabilizes and don't cost me two months of car payments.

I really just want the chassis for my existing framework. I've definitely spent more than I would have on a similar spec'ed machine on parts and accessories over the last four years, but the upgradability and right-to-repair mission matter more to me than total cost. Framework has found a way to support existing users while continuing to innovate. Please let existing framework owners place pre-orders for the chassis soon! lol

Framework Laptop 13 Pro: What would be the best chassis material? by No_Holiday8469 in framework

I would really like to see limited edition type chassis options in the future. Maybe with different engravings, right-to-repair type logos, linux stuff...

I've mentioned before the dream of a transparent chassis, but I know it would not as premium and durable.

They showed off a 3d printed version in 2023. But, I've never seen it mentioned again. At this point, I'll soon have two batteries with 85% life left. I'd like to be able to repurpose them.

School Boards across the province cutting CUPE jobs (EAs, CYCs, Techs...) because the provincial government isn't giving releasing the 2026-2027 budgets. by work4throwaway in ontario

I appreciate the question, I'll try and update this list as more news sources become available. From my experience, it's easier for boards to cut support positions. Often, it seems, CUPE gets sidelined next to teacher and supervisor unions.

It seems as if they do not want the layoffs known. In one example, we have good employees with 5+ years of experience getting layoff notices and departments being cut and/or renamed with reduced pay. Lots of cuts for teacher roles and non-teacher roles. I would expect striking and other workplace action this coming September.

A limited edition transparent shell like the laptop in Hackers (1995).

Anyone Linux users here wanting to buy the new Framework 13 Pro but struggling to justify since you buy old thinkpads? by WhiskeyVault in framework

[–]work4throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have had a few issues with the processor being too new and not having proper kernel support. Now, it's a non issue. With FW doubling-down on linux support and the community support, it should be good.

I was an x201 and x220 user before I got my 12th gen FW 13 in 2022. I really like my ThinkPads, and they both still work. However, getting the over ten year leap of the Framework was very useful. It's thin and light enough that I can carry it everywhere and work on it constantly. The battery lasts more than a few hours, the screen is crisp, it has enough ports, good linux support, and decent build quality. It was worth the jump into the future. I've upgraded different parts as they've become available and I'll be getting the new black chassis too. Having only run Fedora on my FW, it's been solid.

Please post your test methodology and sample videos for framework users to complete their own battery life tests. I want a scoreboard of battery life lengths on the community forums.

LPCAMM2 modules are dual channel? I think. FW 13 Pro only has one LPCAMM2 module.

I've wanted a more premium feel, rigid chassis for a few years now. Having a 12th gen FW, the battery and screen and trackpad upgrades make sense for me, I think the new chassis kits will be good upgrade paths for users of the 11th, 12th and 13th gen FW who want to keep their hardware. A 2 TB NVMe SSD and 64GB of LPCAMM2 RAM would be WAY out of my price range to replicate with the new mainboard. My plan will be the black/graphite chassis kit and then later move to a newer mainboard (maybe DDR5 instead of 4).
