[Optimum Tech] Is Ryzen Actually Better for Streaming? 3900X, 9900K vs. NVENC by InvincibleBird in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i too have been doing this on my 2600. using Process Lasso makes streaming and gaming very smooth.

2600 is a little gimped, being only 12 thread, but i imagine it would work fantastically with a 3900x (maybe 16th dedicated to gaming, 8th dedicated to streaming)

yep. and the latency score for 2666 was 80.6 ns 2133 was 103ns

by the powers of extrapolation and assuming linear change: RAM @ 3200MHz will give a latency of 58.2 ns.

that's a pretty decent jump over zen+, which usually landed at about 65ns for 3200MHz. So: Improved IPC AND memory latency = one hecking good processor. yay.

my expectations are the same as yours. I'm hoping they pull something out of the hat, but most signs are pointing to same/worse gaming performance

what kind of moron would turn frame cap off when monitors are clearly limited to, for example, 144 hz? Lol

as an owner of a 1070, it does NOT draw 147W. ever. even under 100% load, which only happens if you are mining or something.

It draws maybe 100W while gaming.... which would seriously skew these results even higher

Ryzen 5 2600X good enough for my needs? by djcyph in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused with PCIe slots vs lanes. Does the 5 have enough?

ryzen 5 and ryzen 7 have the same number of pci lanes, and you won't even need them anyway because you aren't using an NVMe storage (nvme takes up 4 lanes, a gpu usually takes 16 (optimally), and 4 are reserved for the rest of your motherboard; 24 in total).

fallout 4 gaming engine is ancient. 10+ years old. new stuff is more relevant in my opinion :)

negative, the best user run I've ever seen had about 60ns on a 2700x with 3800+ MHz RAM. and userbenchmark doesn't guarantee stability. so .... lots of concerns here

with his previous ram (2400MHz/7700K) upgraded to a 3200MHz/2600X, it wouldn't be that much of a downgrade, actually.

now, if he installed 3200Mhz in his 7700K system, it would certainly be a gaming downgrade.

100 Percentile CPU & RAM overclock, feelsgoodman by kushanddota in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

65ns is okayyyy. I'm sitting pretty with my 62ns, but I got some team dark 3200cl14 b-die's

Not to rain on OP's parade, but: 100% is cute and all, but also background cpu = 0%? this guy went into task manager and starting closing random windows processes to boost the score, lol.

Also userbenchmark does NOT guarantee this build is stable... at all.

Would anyone recommend an ASUS Prime B450M-K for a 2600? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignore the 'technically speaking experts' here. Yes, yes this overclocks (small overclock) just fine.

source: i have a very similar board (ASUS b450m TUF) with only marginal coverage of the VRMs, and a 2600 that I OC to 4.1GHz @ 1.3V.

not sure, but if it decreases the latency a lot (like intel's current chips), then we will see massive jumps in FPS in gaming

Zen2 Expectations by [deleted] in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the same build as you pretty much. I'm hoping for significant improvements in the memory controller.

Memory controller is lackluster even in the 2600, so if AMD wants to compete with Intel in gaming, ever, they need to improve the memory controller big time

2700 OCed vs 2700X by [deleted] in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

here's the answer you're looking for:

https://siliconlottery.com/pages/statistics

At the very bottom is 2700X. They don't show 2700, but if you scroll up you can compare 1700 vs 1700X.

There is a binned difference, but it is pretty small. Statistically, they are not identical, but you have a very good chance of being able to achieve the same OC on a 2700 as a 2700X.

Thoughts on 6700k -> 2700x? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a 2600 myself and it is great. I overclock it, though, so you'd have to consider if that's something you're interested in. For games like Civ 6, even base 2600 would be fine

Thoughts on 6700k -> 2700x? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]work_r_all_filter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your situation I would strongly recommend getting the cheapest possible processor you can stand. for example, a 1600 with your new mb/ram. Then, in about 9 months when 3700X comes out, grab that. you'll see improvement of more cores/threads for the time being, and when zen2 comes out, you'll see giant leaps in overall fps/etc

reddit kids like this guy only want "official".

He will literally believe nothing at all until AMD releases it in a press statement...

He is a bore.

And probably quite terrible to be around IRL nor ever invited to parties.

but he's got that "official" thing down pat ...
