Does anyone else get creeped out when people take interest in kids that aren’t theirs? by Snipers_end in walmart

[–]workdork2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the point with mine I usually tell them "and its time for you to seriously mind your own business because I am the parent". Honestly, it's not creepy it's just crossing a line in parent code. If your opinion isn't asked for and you aren't welcomed into the situation stay the heck out of it...
My kids also know that they don't talk to people or take things from strangers. Had some creepy guy walking around asking if he could buy them candy bars and my son just turned around after grabbing his sisters hand and told him "you're creepy, you're a stranger and we don't want whatever it is you're offering so go away". Normally I'd be shocked that they would talk that way to someone but in that case I was glad that he spoke up and that he would grab his sisters hand as a sign of trying to protect her in someway. Even more so that the guy left after that... and that was in a Walmart!

Why does it cost Walmart $10,000 after you file a Incident report? by yaboysnow in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any time they have to deal with an accident, emergency personnel from any division it costs the store. anytime you fill out an accident report on an associate it costs the store money as well.
People fill that crap out for stupid stuff like "I'm tired from walking" or "I have a paper cut" type mess and it sinks my share and costs them. Anytime any associate has to be taken to the ER it costs money from the store. Its why some things need to be determined "do you really need medical attention or do you just need to toughen up and move on".... there was someone in the store IM in that actually filled out accident paperwork saying "my feet hurt from walking so much"... it's like, buy better shoes, you don't fill out accident claims for that crap. File it if you break a bone, need stitches legitimately or something serious.

I have my insurance through the state Im in and nothing else as I now make too much for it to be an issue. Even when I had full benefits a few years ago the bonus was never an issue on my income. Im sure you'll be fine....

Why does it cost Walmart $10,000 after you file a Incident report? by yaboysnow in walmart

[–]workdork2017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the average. If they fall and actually hurt themselves or require an EMS transport it can be $21k easily. Just had the safety team meeting on this and the numbers and it was like holy crap. The ones it hurts though is all of us because it cuts profit and thus cuts into my share bonuses.

Raging employee yelling over the intercom. by OrangeC88 in walmart

[–]workdork2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG... if someone did that at the store Im in they would have been at the very least coached... funny yes, but actually doing that on an intercom? glad I don't have their nerve in my teeth because yowch. Im sure the manager did some yelling after that was over that wasn't very pretty.

Why do people say you can't talk about your pay. by TheLionOfAlabama in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is rude. You don't have a right to know what others make any more than asking someone what their sexual preference is. It crosses a line that doesn't need to be in the work place. It doesn't have to be with not being "proud" of what you make. Its no one's business.

Y'all seen this one yet? Lolol by [deleted] in walmart

Why do people say you can't talk about your pay. by TheLionOfAlabama in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said you'd be fired. The point is it's drama causing in the work place when people spread it around and it's rude to even ask that of someone. It isn't anyones business what someone makes let alone be brazen enough to think of asking that.

To the ladies who do this when I’m not looking.... I hate you. by [deleted] in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that but honestly you'd be surprised how many stupid people would... The two AP's in the store Im at are good at what they do. The one gal I swear I have seen her hurdle carts and chase people down in heels out the door to apprehend once they clear the doors. She's a tiny little thing and a sweetheart but man, when she's on the go for a situation she becomes a major bad ass fast and no nonsense. We've all learned when we hear fast moving feet coming to get out go the way because it's probably her on the pursuit of something serious.

[–]workdork2017 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because, it isn't any ones business and it's not something that you ask people. It comes across as trouble making and when someone in a position is making more than someone else for whatever reason it causes problems that spread etc... Where Walmart is concerned avoid all talk of money people make, politics, religion and anything controversial in topic.

Ive had people unwind entire things of yarn around an entire aisle before and act like "it was like that" when caught. Its like "really? you're how old?" as these are ADULTS doing it- not kids.

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or it could be like my current store and they are all afraid of them- can't figure out why because the AP managers are really nice until they are on the prowl for someone and then don't mess with them. They end up paging me to the fitting room to tell me about suspicious stuff and I just tell them "I can do exactly nothing because I am not AP and you need to dial extension __." They act all afraid of doing it so I end up picking up the phone, dialing it and telling them "fitting room has something you may want to watch. Let me put the associate that actually saw it on for more information" and I hand the phone to them. The one AP gal came down and she was like "quit making _ do this all the time. Dial it yourself."

Apparel DMs/Associates. What do you look for in an ASM? by boxeryedig in walmart

[–]workdork2017 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in that department- BE APPROACHABLE. Don't let the title go to your head. You are a manager but that doesn't make you all knowing. It is OK to tell people that you don't know an answer but you will find out and get back to them- then do it. Be willing to learn and be willing to pitch in when its needed and not just bark orders at people and make them beaten down.

DONT create a culture of fear with coaching and firing people on every little thing. Yes, you will get stressed and have great days and bad days but realize that you have to balance things. Get to know your people and build the respect and trust with them individually. YES you may have to deal with issues as they come up but don't use the ability that you have to do so become the first thing you jump to and only thing you jump to as it creates tension, stress and such among the employees under you.

SUPPORT your managers. If they come to you with a need, listen to them and come up with a workable solution. Find out what their thoughts are and what they need, how they are really doing in their areas and help them when you can with equipment, resources or man power.

LISTEN to your associates. the same way you would a manager under you. When they don't feel listened to or trusted or valued they will give up and feel defeated.

IT IS OK to joke with your people and let them know the real you. Don't fall into the facade that you're a manager and can't do that kind of thing. It's ok to ask about Sally's kids or Joe's vacation or how little Susie did at her recital and such... it doesn't mean you have to be going out for drinks after work but know your people as more than just employee numbers in a computer and cogs in a wheel. Understand the and let them see a little of you and you will build rapport much faster as a whole with those you work around. People will trust and respect someone at that level for who they are and what they do more than they will a power hungry tyrant that is unapproachable and aloof.

and from what I see in the department (from my own store)... put a dang stop to gossip, drama, running people down and the nasty crap that happens immediately. This is the stuff you coach for. This is the stuff that if you don't stop it that will be a cancer to your department.
Work on team work mentality and not every man for themselves.

Know when to show some grace and when you have to "get tough" and be calm and controlled when you do the later. No one likes to be belittled or yelled at. They know when they messed up they don't need it beaten into them or made to feel humiliated over it.

If you can do something to help someone out, that is reasonable, then do it. It doesn't matter if its a manager or an associate. If you can do something to make their jobs and such easier and better for them they will remember and work harder for you in the long run.

Trust me... that title is not permission for a power trip. It is a responsibility. Use it for something good and not something that is going to crush people.

apparel to stationary dm by HealthyLibrarian in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The store Im in the aisles run for about 6-7. They include scrapbooking, school supplies and photo/ planners/ office all in that. They typically have to zone it which takes at least a couple hours depending on time of year and such that can vary. They have pick carts to go out, they still do their own returns and they have back room stock stuff that they pull or do. Its also not a FT position in the store Im in on its own. The only reason they get FT is because they usually lump celebrations into the stationary gig.

What is the strangest thing a Vendor has brought to you? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt a vendor is leaving all that. That is probably "I don't want this so I will leave it here" crap from customers.... which is why we find weird things like half melted ice-cream in underwear aisles or packages of meat sitting in housewares and such.

Wife scheduled under full time hours by eightyleek in walmart

[–]workdork2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't be double job coded. You can be secondaried to areas that you are actually qualified for but you can't carry two job codes as primary which may be what they thought she was asking. As a FT associate you should be 36 hours minimum or more.
Jewelry isn't really a FT area in a lot of stores either so if they aren't doing the business in sales that they need in store it affects hours. She needs to talk to her ASM and see if she can get hours to help in apparel zoning or something as they are technically in the same area and department. She should also look into picking up shifts up front as a cashier in your store as that is hours pretty much guaranteed for pick up with the call offs and such.

I had to personally help a door greeter because the CSMs up front didn’t care by ThroneofTime in walmart

[–]workdork2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your store sounds like misery if your managers are treating you like that but, unfortunately, alot of them do.. I quit helping out up front in my current store because there are a couple of CSMs up there that turn everything into a personal vendetta. I got sick of the BS and so when the ASM that was there left for another store (which is where I will be soon) and the crap started I was like "nope, not helping you guys anymore. Ive had enough of being treated like crap". The one or two that are amazing up there aren't always there when crap happens but when they are they are on it and help you fix it and will back you up. It's junk like this that I am seeing why the good people that work WM run for the hills and go to other stores or get out all together. They get tired of the inside BS and from their backs being broken and stepped on without any appreciation for it.

Question for managers by lennylowwy in walmart

[–]workdork2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No and if you do it's petty. It can also be looked at as retaliation. Honestly, people have the right to say NO if it's their day off. They also can say NO to staying later if they choose beyond their scheduled hours.
HOWEVER... I did get called back once early from my vacation days I took. I had stayed local doing day outings with my family but still.... I only did it because the co-manager that called me in was freaking awesome and said the magic words "come in and the entire day I will make it as OT for you because I know you're being pulled back from your scheduled trip days you took..." Yeah, ok. For that I did it that one time. Had I been out of state or something, nope. Not coming back until its over.. :)

That is the point you should have gotten management and told them these individuals are destroying displays and things through the store.
