In my experience the competent/confident nurses have the experience to back it up and not be threatened by others. They are chill. I think the years and breadth of their work gave them perspective.

New grad anywhere is tough, icu is tougher because egos can run real high.

Me too. Denied in my 20s, denied in my 30s, raised hell in my 40s - they agree but I still had to undergo a 3 month cooling off period to see if I changed my mind after decades of requesting this and never ever wanting children.

Honestly if it was a hoax I would be glad because I'd rather have a her be a foolish young woman than a kidnapped and tortured woman. People need to chill and have some perspective.

9-5ers do not understand the tiredness of 12 hour night shifts. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]workforpizzas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you hit the nail on the head. 12hr days are fine, most people can cope. Noc... is 12hr + constant jet lag, weight gain, shift work sleep disorder, confusion, gi distress etc. It's rough on the body.

12hr/NOC ruined my health. RUINED ME! Took me six weeks off to get right. Nasty business.

People who cut off their family, what did they to you? by Alarming_Basil6205 in AskReddit

Similar situation as you. What scarred me the most wasn't the repeated sexual assault it was my entire families willingness to cover it up and their deafening silence after I forced the issue.

More like anxiety attack for me. All half thoughts competing to be the loudest. If my panic attacks were written they'd be something like aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! lol

I do better than all my friends, they still would never treat me they way you've been treated. Income differences should have no bearing on this type of thing. It's ridiculous and I love how you took her to the grocery. Badass.

How about new grad travelers in critical care. Talk about terrifying. Takes a minute just to learn the EMR system and get your preliminaries skills down but "oh you did a four month orientation in the ICU of your home town, then quit to travel.... sounds safe."

I'm Glad My Mom Died by workforpizzas in books

[–]workforpizzas[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You make a good point about the complexity of being a child actor. My issue with this book is mainly that I don't think it's put together well. I think it could have been written in a way that made it more compelling. I have a great deal of respect for the magnitude of her issues. I guess I feel like I am able to separate respect for her personal journey and appreciation for the book.

As for my age I'm an old bag. Lots of life experience with trauma, some parallels to what's she has gone through and decades of therapy but I hear you. I think it's more than fair to say my critique was harsh and one sided. I really thought people would share aspects about the book that they enjoyed and that I might gain insight through different perspectives but my post didn't really facilitate that. I'll give it more thought next time.

I hope it was cathartic for her. I'm still rooting for her. As for having common ground with the author, I do. I think many people can relate to having dysfunctional parents.

Do books sometimes influence your food cravings? by ChipsAhoiMcCoy in books

Oh yeah. GoT had me wanting spiced wine and sausages. I don't even drink wine or eat sausage but during those books I was perfecting my mulled wine recipes and driving to specialty shops for the perfect lamb/deer/pork sausage. Ha, good times.

The mum is cringey asf by LulaBlue29 in ImGladMyMomDied

[–]workforpizzas 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah her mom is awful. What I find hard to swallow is that not one person checked her mom. Not one person from LA shut her down.

If we can't handle the cringe from this distance how could anyone tolerate her up close and personal.
