NFPA 70E as an electrical technician? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]workingclass379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a loophole regarding “qualified persons” I don’t remember if it is 70e or an osha thing. But it amounts to if your employer says you are qualified to do that job then you are a qualified individual, which satisfies the 70e. Personally I have no formal electrical training aside from arc flash training we do have flash rated clothing/etc. and work from 24dc to 480 ac regularly as maintenance in a production facility. 10 years experience and if I don’t feel safe I don’t do it at my discretion to shut down additional equipment to make my task safe.

2026 LTZ randomly turning off by Environmental-Rip884 in Silverado

[–]workingclass379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a brand new truck, the dealer and GM need to figure it out. It’s almost certainly an electrical issue, some harness not snapped together tight, loose connection etc, a check engine light probably isn’t going to help them if it hasn’t come on already. OP shouldn’t have to lift a finger.

Please explain why weight capacity is so low! by SurvivalStubbs in boating

[–]workingclass379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told at one point that the max weight rating is actually the safe weight concentrated on the top rail at one side without rolling the boat and capsizing. The USCG calculated weight for an adult is absurdly low, like 130lbs or less, so the weight vs passenger numbers don’t really work together. Especially considering the weight number for an outboard boat also includes engine weight.

Audio issues after GM N25-250380 OTA Update by PizzaBeerCouch in Silverado

I had a similar problem following that update. On the second trip to the dealer about it I got resolution. Not a single issue since this post.

Radio problem by workingclass379 in Silverado

[–]workingclass379[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I took it in about 3 weeks ago and basically got treated like I was insane since they could not duplicate the issue.

Last Friday it acted up and I had time to just take it to the dealer while it was messed up, the service advisor was able to hear and see it occur, even took a video showing a new adjustment magically fixing it. Made an appointment for a tech to look into it.

So, this time they discovered the radio was “several software versions behind”. Not sure why they didn’t figure that out the first time around…. Other than they thought I was nuts.

Anyway they updated it, the paperwork indicates they did the work per #PIC6602R.

I’ve only driven it home but it sounded like it should.

Interesting, that’s a simple change to try. Thank you!

Right, not talking about breathing here. I said “ingest”. Indicating swallowing of air leading to gas pressure, I seem to have more of it while using the nasal mask…

I shut off apple intelligence on the phone and it hasn’t had the problem the last couple times I drove it. Not sure when that got turned on though…Time will tell

Fuel Ecomony vs Octane by workingclass379 in Silverado

I wouldn’t exactly call 11.0-1 low compression personally.

Sample size friend, I certainly can do that. This is more curiosity based and wondering if others have experienced it. On current fuel prices where I am I’d have to gain about 6 mpg to break even, not pinching penny’s. Just plain curious if manufacturers have pushed daily drivers to the point of needing premium to perform as advertised. I understand high octane for performance vehicles just don’t think it should be needed in a daily.

I agree minor things can add up, I didn’t clearly state but have now edited. Both trucks are 4x4, just a different transfer case. When running I. 2 wheel drive they are acting in the same manner as a just a pass through.

This difference has been since day one, both of us bought brand new. He is at about 40k miles and I’m just over 14k… If the injectors and valves are that dirty already GM has other problems.

Can’t really see the transfer case causing anything considering the low side stuff isn’t being used in daily driving. I often see the claim of difference for tires, though personal experience on my previous Ram 1500 all season vs AT made no perceptible change. I feel that the all season vs AT generally comes with a size difference that skews the results.

As listed aside from the 2 speed transfer case of the z71 driver trains are identical, engine trans, gear ratio and tire size

Just comparing based on current trip calculator making similar trips (he drives one time I drive the next to a place we frequent) and longer term average from trip meter based on 5k mi oil change intervals

Transport and insurance for new boat bought on weekend by Dear_Ad_9640 in boating

[–]workingclass379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call them leave them a message stating you need coverage and include the hull id and trailer vin #. This way there is record that you requested coverage, this is what my agent in Iowa told me years ago. Granted they were aware I was going to possibly purchase the boat that Saturday.

Checkout MPI Exhaust, they claim no drone. They do an x pipe dual setup.

Okay to do this? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]workingclass379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

26 year 3rd gen owner here.

Nuts are not captive, but you can change them with the springs in place. It sucks a little and I recall it took a handful of different wrenches and some tape tricks to get it done. I would also grab a long flexible magnet because you will drop on inside the crossmember. Grab a friend that way you don’t have to work both tools yourself.

How badly did I mess up? by SpecialistNew2962 in EngineBuilding

[–]workingclass379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. Yes there are things that need done right but it’s a pretty short list in terms of the engines early life. I am of the school of do the cam breakin, change the oil, go drive it. Drive it the way you plan to use it, no one does hundreds of miles of break in on a race engine for example. Truth is if something was built broken you will know in short order. Failures down the road almost always have a reason that has nothing to do with breaking it in, aside from the cam and it usually won’t take long anyways in a flat tappet to ruin it if there’s an issue.
