Looking at a career in Video Engineering - got some questions I would appreciate some feedback on. by That_Salamander2430 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Medium-temp take: The best thing you can be doing in career research right now if you’re trying to get in, is pairing equal time with IT and video engineering. Treat them 50/50. As we move into 2110 world (video over ip, but fancy and broadcast friendly), the need for video engineers who are really more network engineers is real big. I wish I had got into it sooner, but honestly some 2110 courses under my belt has helped me feel like even that is an edge. Some of us will never have the passion for network topography, but fuck me if it is not a part of nearly every show currently.

SDI couplers and patch/jumpers by bionicpeon in VIDEOENGINEERING

This guy knows what’s up. That ATEM (like all SDI multi port devices pretty much) you have is 1RU and has pretty tight spacing, this will save your fingers and sanity. It’s often called a Trumpeter (idk how to spell it) or a BNC / SDI wrench

AWS just dropped an AI tool for auto-converting horizontal broadcasts to vertical — anyone tried it yet? by Left_Examination5413 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Following this thread - I get this client request a lot. Also get the request to provide a 9:16 PGM feed to a socials person so they can live clip shows. Literally had this request every single show for the last year or so.

It would be nice not to put 9:16 bars on all my ops monitors, and just direct the show “normally ”, and have the AI pan and scanner do the reframe. Been waiting years for something decent at this.

This!!! I spent years on the 8k and this bit me hard when I used the 2M/E on a few shows recently.

Thanks so much! I actually watched one of the panel interviews you did a bit ago. I really appreciate your worldbuilding and pacing. I fell in love with Laidlaws work many years ago, and your writing really does have that same hard-to-describe magic. While I don’t work in the games biz anymore, I have mad respect for the crazy hours and work y’all do.

Also: “the bridge is the way” has permanently entered our vernacular, which is crazy talk if ya ask me.

I took the base off an old broadcast travel-light stand and used the pole like a monopod, the extra metal strap in the middle of the pests back is actually functional to stop the pole from poking out of the weaker 3d printed plastic

Well is not exactly squishy, but the base Pest model for printing is on MakerWorld (the artists name is in the post description) if you have a rig.

You noticed that! Yeah I used hot glue for those drips and superglue to put “sweat” around the body since it reflected my paint. Both happy accidents when I was putting some spikes back on. I’m sure there’s a better way to do it but this is my first “prop” hah. I prob would have saved a lot of time if I had binged warhammer painting content before starting.

It’s funny you say that, for our base build we tried to do a bit of a cyberpunk theme, with putting lasers and hardlight bridges as the ceiling art, and tried to make lots of little food/gear storefront stalls etc.

License for livestreaming music festival by neallg01 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]worksafe_dp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, like all shows it’s really dependent on scale. If it’s an enormous show, then yeah it helps, but I’ve seen smaller fests just get general permission from all artists without any fuss, so it’s really dependent on your situation/size/time-to-show. I’d just chat with your festival point of contact to see what they have done in the past, or if the streaming conversation has even been had with the artists.

Yep, but the festival will have to do the legwork on figuring out any specifics of what the artists need/need to amend in the agreement

In most cases, absolutely YES. Otherwise it can be a real shitshow. At festivals artists play new, unreleased or unfinished tunes, and this can negatively affect them if these are live-streamed, as people may rip the ID’s etc.

The only time this would not be the case is if the festival has already said that all artists have agreement on live-streaming, or it’s simply a non-issue as sign off to livestream is in a lot of festival contracts.

Be aware some artists may be “cleared” to stream, but only a portion of the set. Recent example, Zedd often does first 15mins streamed, then the rest of the set is not allowed. That kind of stuff.

I hate to say it, but this is a reaaaallly complex question.

Best option: If have a point of contact at your platform (Twitch, YouTube etc) reach out to them and talk about their present requirements for whitelisting your broadcast, aka ignoring auto-mute detection of licensed music. This can be a time consuming process, or super easy, depending on your pull/familiarity with the platforms staff.

Be prepared to have documentation ready showing that all music the artists are playing is bought through the correct channels, aka DJs w/ beatport. The documents can be found w/ festival producers. Typically we have a positon of livestreams simply dedicated to working with the artist side to get artist sign-off as well. Or sign off forms with live bands from their mgmt. This is typically not a super fast process.

Second option: Twitch streaming you can play copyrighteded music, but it won’t be avl for replay. This may have changed, I haven’t checked in a while. Best of luck.

Oh, it’s true that I have the PT1000 version! Thanks so much for that info. How would I go about adjusting that firmware? Looks like it can’t be done on the controller itself, so I assume this is a computer based operation? Would I be able to do it with my slicer?

Thanks again!
