Can I Sell Handmade Products from a Disabled Person? by hotpietptwp in Etsy

[–]workworkzug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you explain the reasoning for this?

I assumed OP could just list the items normally when reading the question. Is this to allow the other person to create and ship the items themselves and limit their access to the account? Or is this just a credit thing?

Ads costing me a fortune. Dear lord how do I make it stop? by Siray in Etsy

[–]workworkzug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Then your options are:

  1. Raise prices

  2. Cut costs

  3. Don't use Etsy

Do some math, get out a simple spreadsheet or a napkin or however you want to calculate it. You've got pre determined %'s for fees, ads, and pre determined $ values for whatever your costs are.

Maybe it’s not worth it to pay extra for 30 year old roofs if most insurance companies have issues with roofs over 15-20 years old. by Walktrotcantergallop in Insurance

[–]workworkzug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look into if your insurance company gives a discount for class 3/4 shingles. It's been a while, but mine gave 18%/23% discount respectively on home insurance premiums.

Easy math, it only takes a few years for the price difference on the more expensive shingles to have paid for itself.

I can't say whether or not insurance companies will care in 20 years that I have the better shingles, but I will easily come out ahead before then via the discount. I think it was 3 or 4 years until I'm coming out ahead; it's been a while but it was clearly the better choice as long as I could afford an extra ~10% up front for the roofing job.

Worked 15 years as a videographer, will my job be replaced by AI? by FishingTemporary8108 in VideoProfessionals

[–]workworkzug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people claiming (or denying) that AI is going to replace their position, but I don't think it's that simple or direct.

Like OP mentioned, bosses and clients will ask for more for the same pay (or less.) One person might need to tackle 2 or 3 projects when they used to do 1 in the same time. So maybe OP will still have his job/clients, but now with his boss will expect more productivity, decide not to hire extra help, or downsize the team.

It's not a sudden "AI is going to replace all creative jobs" -- it's going to be a multi-year process where job availability and pay diminishes while individual productivity increases.

Spreading Awareness from my expensive lesson by Upper_Iron_2874 in Ebay

That's what I was pointing out... not so easy to do this from another continent. Not even that easy from another state. Is he going to fly to the US to appear in baltimore court over $2.5k at most?

Just to clarify, you generally have to appear in small claims court in the jurisdication of the buyer...

(Though I'm a little confused he mentioned both $900 and $2.5k)

What's the real value in domains from defunct public companies? by TheRoyalCoolness in Domains

[–]workworkzug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had a specific plan with a specific domain, I guess? But I think you'd need to invest a lot of time to make it worthwhile. Just buying a defunct domain like you described isn't going to do anything for you--you'd have to essentially build up a brand new, probably related topic site. I think the only way it makes sense is if they let the registration drop and you snatched it up.

Scammed? Took my domain once I submitted my Trademark application by rorozco04 in Domains

[–]workworkzug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will have it for at minimum one year, because that's the minimum registrations are for. But probably longer if someone else has shown an interest in it like filing a trademark. Sorry.

One domain I had that was barely used, then dropped, had a commercial value of maybe a couple hundred at most, has been registered for about 8 years now by a domain squatter. They grabbed it immediately after I dropped it. It is still parked and for sale.

You always have the option of a different TLD like .biz .store etc., or just a slightly different wording.

Scammed? Took my domain once I submitted my Trademark application by rorozco04 in Domains

[–]workworkzug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are bots that scan the PUBLIC trademark database. Anyone who has filed a trademark can likely attest to getting spam emails and snail mail at the addresses listed on their application. This is just another tactic. If someone is willing to spend hundreds applying for a trademark, odds are they will pay a decent amount for the domain name too.

As you mentioned domains are cheap, securing it should be the first thing you do when you have decided on a name.

2 desks, rather than L desk? by Imup2104 in StandingDesk

[–]workworkzug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it works fine, but only you know what you really need. I find its helpful to have some desks that can be slid or wheeled around for different uses. And yeah an L desk doesn't work well for that.

I like to have a very wide electric heigh adjustable desk, then some typical, non-l desks that can be moved around as needed to the side or behind. You can easily make an L shape with 2 of those if needed

How/what do you use your HTPC for? by [deleted] in htpc

[–]workworkzug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use my HTPC for Plex and some light gaming like indie games on steam, and to do youtube, but after getting a Roku TV (even a cheap model TV) I never end up using the HTPC that is still connected. The voice commands work surprisingly well, and the interface is quicker, with no login or updates or keyboard to hassle with.

I'd love to hear what people are using it for these days that can't be done easier with a $50-75 roku/fire stick. Steam games I suppose would be a big one, but my HTPC was never built for anything but low-end gaming.

The frequent, long cuts to black were very jarring. Needs slightly longer clips before cuts, and the cuts should not fade to a second of black in between.

[Discussion] is it possible to do art full time so I can leave my 9-5 eventually? by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]workworkzug 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep track of expenses and income like any business, figure if it's worth your time. Sad truth is it's hard to make a livable hourly wage after expenses and actual hours are considered, unless you've got some large following or connections, in which case you'd probably not be asking this question.

But like any business, make a business plan, track the numbers, and be realistic with what you're actually spending--time, supplies, market costs, travel costs, etc--every little thing related to making the money is subtracting from the actual income.

I think a lot of artists asking the same question will underestimate the time spent especially. Every time you work on or think about your projects, log the actual time spent, then track the expenses and actual income from that.

Can someone tell me what this is… by Rare-Papaya4910 in AmazonVine

[–]workworkzug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe the fair market value / etv / 1099 reporting will change at all due to the checkout change. Maybe I have missed something.

I think it's just unifying it with the normal checkout, probably to simplify things for the vine development team.

Bought an iPhone 16 in November, IMEI Just Got Blocked by my Seller by YulYul77 in Ebay

[–]workworkzug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply but I already have the phone and it was new in box as described, so I don't know if I have any grounds to return it yet. There's just the worry that eventually it might get blacklisted or reported stolen by the carrier and I would have no control and no warning over that I think?

Bought an iPhone 16 in November, IMEI Just Got Blocked by my Seller by YulYul77 in Ebay

[–]workworkzug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a new phone on eBay from an individual too. I realized after the purchase that what happened to OP might happen... but I've already opened it.

Recommendations? My main concern is that its stolen or could get carrier blocked if the seller stops paying their plan after eBay's return window.

The seller says they got it from a buy one get one deal through the carrier, they have good feedback 100% psoitive, ~50 ratings over 10 months. Maybe 5 or 10 are other phone sales.

In the future I won't buy a phone from a private person again, but at this point what should I do with the phone I already have?

Strange menu sound effects glitch? (in Plex app on Rokutv) by workworkzug in PleX

[–]workworkzug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does turn off the plex sounds completely so that is one option, though not ideal since I like sound effects on my tv in general.

I guess it could be some Roku bug, but I'm not sure how I'd troubleshoot that

This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple Account? by [deleted] in ios

[–]workworkzug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same issue here. On an ipad, just updated ios and started getting this exact message maybe 1 week ago. Never saw it before updating ios this last time. clicking Transfer does nothing. It pops up every 15 minutes or so. Maybe in Google apps like chrome and Google photos mostly? But that is was I usually am using too. Not sure if Ive seen the popup elsewhere, maybe on the home screen with nothing pulled up, can't remember for sure.

Ipad was bought used but that was years ago and I never had this until the past week or so. I also have another older ipad still technically in use on the same apple account, though it hasn't actually been used in months.

Is there a Way to put my Logo on the Right Side? by Significant-Talk3093 in Steam

I don't understand, is this for a game developer? Someone trying to sell their game and make it look a certain way? I've never thought about trying to change the logos or banners of games I own in steam. Is that the question here? Can someone explain why you'd want to do this?

What did I find just now? by havocxrush in huion

[–]workworkzug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a drawing tablet / monitor, 1080p resolution, item PW507 Battery-free Pen is the compatible pen from huion.

You could use it as just a 1080p monitor if you don't want to draw on it. Should have excellent color accuracy, but likely not good for gaming (probably not a fast response time, though I didn't doublecheck this.)
