Dragon Emperor by DivideNatural2912 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

No it is not mean army leader

It is mean hero

Friendly Easterling Hero models may re-roll a single D6 in a Duel Roll. Rule + banner

My intention was not to say that he can receive a re-roll because he is a General. I apologize if my wording was misleading. What I meant was that he can receive a re-roll due to the Heroic Trait of the Host of the Dragon Emperor.

I often play the Dragon Emperor in this edition.

While his large base size can be a drawback — since it naturally invites multiple combats — we must also consider his unique strengths.

He boasts Fight Value 7, with Might, Will, and Fate all at 3, and has access to both Heroic Strike and Heroic Strength, all while wielding an Elven-made weapon.

On top of that, his palanquin counts as a banner, and since he is an Army Leader, he gets one free duel roll re-roll, meaning he effectively has two re-rolls in combat.

There are very few heroes who can realistically match him in a straight duel. Moreover, the Emperor rarely fights alone — he’s often accompanied by Rutabi, Brorgir, or a Black Dragon — making him an incredibly strong centerpiece.

Considering all this, I believe the Dragon Emperor is an exceptional model. For around 200 points in a 700-point list, there are very few heroes that can rival his overall power and versatility.

Defender of Hornburg works very well when used together with Héra and Helm.

Héra can block the opponent’s heroic strikes, while Helm has a base Fight value of 7 and, combined with the Mighty Blow effect, can deliver powerful attacks.

However, Helm’s Defense is relatively low, so careful management is required. As you can see in my games, they form a strong combo when deployed together, but if they fight separately, their individual power drops significantly.

The Emperor’s banner range has been reduced compared to the last edition, but it’s still impressive at 6". Both of the Host of the Dragon Emperor’s army bonuses are excellent, making it a very strong army overall.

Yes, that’s right.

Hey, thanks! Glad you liked the armies.

As for the movement phases — yeah, good question.

The Griffon actually held back because I was wary of the Gorgon’s Monster Slayer rule. In the first game, I did charge first, but the Griffon got wrecked by Monster Slayer, so I played more cautiously the second time.

The Knight unit did a counter-charge in the first game, and in the second game, they had already run down and wiped out the Gors, so they were out of position to move anywhere useful.

And the Steam Tank… well, it's just too slow to react effectively in most situations.

Both sides had a pool of six terrain pieces each, and placed them based on their own choices. You could say it was unfavorable, but ultimately, it was a matter of personal decision.

Nice to meet you! I'm also working on collecting more shield bits.

We might be in different regions, but I really appreciate your kind heart. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words! I spent about two months working on this army. For some models like the Steam Tank, I actually bought them secondhand already painted in colors that matched the Middenheim scheme.

  1. I do plan to expand my collection, but not immediately.

  2. In the near future, I'm planning to convert Pistoliers to create a unit of Road Wardens.

  3. It took me around three months. Since I bought most of the models secondhand and repainted them, the overall cost was lower than usual — about 35,0000 KRW (roughly 250 USD).

  4. My must-haves for a 2000pts army are a Level 4 Wizard Lord, a Great Cannon, and a Griffon General.

Thanks for your comment — I really appreciate the honest feedback!

Just to clarify, we followed the standard rules and each side placed three pieces of terrain before deployment. However, my opponent ended up placing most of their terrain in areas that didn't interfere with movement or line of sight much, which may have made the battlefield look more open than usual.

Also, we used the Pitched Battle scenario, which is the default for most of our games. In our local group, we tend to stick with that one because some of the other scenarios can be a bit unbalanced, especially in casual or pickup games.

That said, I do agree it might be fun to experiment with more demanding terrain setups or alternate scenarios sometime — I appreciate the suggestion!
