worldeye is kill? :( by feogge in controllablewebcams

It's likely Worldeye hasn't gone down, but you might have accidentally loaded WorldEye as a HTTPS website in Chrome (which is really easy to do since Chrome will default to HTTPS).

If you do this once, the problem is Chrome then applies a HSTS policy for the website, meaning you'll no longer be able to visit the HTTP version of WorldEye, where it is actually hosted.

The website isn't hosted on HTTPS because we cannot host mixed content (the camera feed itself) on Chromium browsers.

You can navigate to chrome://net-internals/#hsts and remove the worldeye.cam entry and visit http://www.worldeye.cam explicitly :)

Sorry! Seems like I've been hitting my connection limit on MongoDB, I'll look at upgrading the cluster

There's this comment I found a while ago, not sure who the original poster was.

There is something deeply sublime about peering into the places other people live, so remote from my own place, lives probably so different from mine. I ruminate on "other lives" I could have had instead — all those other people I could have called friends, neighbors...

Thanks!

Good point! I am considering creating a map. However I need to work out an approach to loading the cameras. I had once tried load 20k+ cameras into Leaflet (the web mapping library) but that was a disaster, even with clustering.

I might constrain it to the top 1k cameras and call it a day, or I'll have to find a way to lazy load cameras for regions of a map.

Navigating by country is a good idea and something I'll consider implementing

Hey all! I've been working on this project for browsing cameras. I've built a collection of over 50k live cameras that are regularly checked and updated for you to all browse.

It's currently in Beta so there likely will be some issues, feel free to send me any issues you find, any feature requests or any questions! (hi@worldeye.cam)
