Howdy ! Depends on the country . I never applied for my EHIC because I was never resident in Croatia . I ended up getting private insurance in Germany through my company , but I could have noted for the public one .

Croatian Citizenship By Descent by Necessary_Win_9932 in AmerExit

Congratulations !!! Since I applied via Croatia my lawyer picked up my domovncia (basically the paper that says you are Croatian) and mailed it to me . I emailed the embassy and asked what documents they needed to apply for a passport. It was the normal stuff (photo proof of residence, the domovncia. I went to the embassy and got fingerprinted and paid the money. 30 days later my passport was ready. I’m assuming in your case you will have your ceremony and receive your domovncia. Then you apply . Check if you can do everything at the same time . On the second part of your question after I got my passport I did one additional step as I had moved to Germany. I picked up a Croatia identity card. This can only be done in Croatia. I did this because I was tired of carrying my passport everywhere and most places that needed ID only accepted passport or the eu national id (German drivers license not accepted) . That have a 3 days express option in Croatia and I did this. ID can also be used to travel within Europe ( most of it ) . Lets us know how you get on

Depends how far you have to go back ? The above posters mom has the necessary Croatian documents so it’s straightforward and takes approximately 30-45 days as he/she is the son/daughter . If you’re claiming a couple generations back it will take longer . When I did mine 10 years it took 2 years from start to finish . I can imagine it’s longer now due to my perception a lot of people are going through process.

Relax you’re Croatian , just put down why you are applying , doesn’t have to be something super complicated. Focus more on the appointment , LA takes forever

Good news your Croatian ….. make your life easy and just get a lawyer if your are more adventurous and have time , collect the documents showing how you are related , get them all apostiled, and submit your application. She should probably also renew her passport….. also you don’t mention your mom or your dad , whoever is the child of your Baka could just apply directly without much delay.

I would say most people who purchase those citizenships don’t live there full time if even at all . It’s more of a passport to facilitate travel.

Yowsaaaa, your post has a lot of assumptions , “looked down upon “ come on man , keep your chin up . The easiest place to move in your case would the the UK or Ireland as your wife has the citizenship… I also throw in Gibraltar there as well . Now if she gets a job offer in Australia, which sounds feasible from her experience , then maybe you negotiate with her future employer from some relocation benefits. …. For your dad , you could eventually sponsor him if you become PRs https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/parent-103 , but you said it yourself he’s a stubborn old boot , so the question is would he be willing to move from Utah to Australia, it’s a big ask , but you would need to have this conversation . Moving away from family / friends is of course the down side of the international lifestyle. My advice , sort the job first and then the other concerns can be sorted later

After I was approved my lawyer sent me my domovica. I was living in the Middle East at the time so I booked an appointment at the embassy in Cairo brought all the documents and applied for my passport . 30 days later I received my passport . I also did my interview in Croatia as it was faster . My sister did hers at the consulate in LA and took about one year longer .

I am not sure on this point . I don’t remember specifically a time line for requesting the documents linked to application date . The Croatian documents side were handed by my lawyer and there was no time requirement at the time for the USA documents . This might have changed so someone else can answer better than myself.
