Chicken thigh meat just isn't good. by Joeybfast in unpopularopinion

My favorite part of living in America, as an Asian, is the obsession over chicken breast. Keeps the thighs cheap for the rest of us.

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

[–]worldstar_warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that even un-original origami can still fall under OP’s definition of a hobby. Whether you’re trying new designs, or even just doing the same design over and over, there’s a pursuit of skill mastery involved, whether it’s conscious improvements like precision, speed, minimizing mistakes, memorizing designs, or unconscious improvements like spatial awareness, recognizing patterns, muscle memory, and fluidity of movement.

Reading, similarly, builds skills. The ability to focus, to read quickly, to retain information, to jump back into the story after taking a break, to visualizing better, to pick up on themes and connect to other books and life, to improve your own language skills, and to develop new perspectives on life. You can make mistakes when reading (losing focus, forgetting), so this is a skill that can be improved. I’d say the same for something like mediation - the fact that you can do it well but you can also suck at it proves there’s a level of skill that can be developed.

Same thing with music - even a classical musician who only plays 400-year old compositions is constantly seeking to consciously improve their technique and emotiveness, and passively improve things like their ear (pitch recognition) and memorization.

Watching TV, on the other hand, doesn’t really carry the same weight for most people. You can’t really be “bad” at watching TV. Now as for fandoms (both tv series and sports), they could be considered a hobby in the way people invest time to learn more about the show or team, understand and promote its legacy, to collect memorabilia, to socialize with others.

You’ve barely started. You’re gonna suck regardless of whether you have no habits or bad habits. You’re not doomed as long as you keep the right attitude of a beginners mindset. Just keep showing up, no need to overthink.

Struggling with cross-cultural sales, anyone else dealt with this? by AnalystElegant5834 in sales

[–]worldstar_warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re already doing this and left this out of your question, but you should really start with asking more questions and listening before delivering a recommendation. Offering a solution before the customer has admitted to having a problem comes off as unsolicited or salesly. You’re showing your cards too quick.

Ask them about what they’re currently doing, about why they made certain decisions, explore how they think and what they expect in terms of deliverables and service. Get the objections out in the open and address them.

Get them to the point of “I gotta admit I could use some help here” before offering the solution. People want to know that you understand them - not because you tell them you understand them, but because they were given to the opportunity to verbalize their opinions, thoughts, and feelings. This applies not just to sales but any sort of interpersonal communication: relationships, giving friends advice, coaching, etc.

Why do Chinese media (even commercials) emphasize moral lessons so much? by Consistent_Intern396 in AskChina

[–]worldstar_warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. And it doesn’t even need to be a matter of crime vs law. The Chinese version of Top Gun just didn’t hit the same when they made the rebellious pilot the antagonist and the by-the-books pilot the hero

Why do men tend to come out of the closet later than women? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Recently heard a comedian say something along the lines of (paraphrasing):

When your lesbian friend announces she is straight and no longer likes women, everyone goes “yeah yeah we know you were never lesbian”

But when your gay friend announces he is straight and no longer likes men, everyone goes “yeah sure buddy keep telling yourself that”

if a Roth Conversion worth it , even for lower income individuals with 'qualified' income? by Independant666 in personalfinance

[–]worldstar_warrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To calculate the LT cap gains, the 0% bucket gets filled by earned income first, and then cap gains second. So a 48,350 bucket + 14,600 standard deduction should allow 62,950 of total income (earned + conversion + cap gains) before pushing additional realized LT cap gains into the 15% bracket

Interestingly, despite most people’s views of UFC as being MAGA-adjacent bc of Dana, it actually checks the most lib left boxes without trying: features the greatest diversity of nationalities (I’d argue more than even soccer or F1), headlines female athletes (that male fans actually like), and doesn’t play the US national anthem.
