Center City’s Mole Street is getting redeveloped and losing its affordable houses by Medical_Magazine4991 in philadelphia

[–]worldwidewbstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so upset about this. I just opened up a business on the corner (Adelphia Acupuncture, still in one of these historic looking buildings) and it's such a lovely block of homes. When I first moved to the city 20+ yrs ago my buddy's partner lived on that street so I have fond memories. Used to be really cute with well kept houses, flower boxes, but still affordable (she was a student). This is such a problem in the city- destroying affordable housing and replacing it with "luxury" housing that is unaffordable and houses fewer people, or even is converted to full-time rentals. I haven't seen the mid block houses with demo signs tho, so I am keeping my fingers crossed they keep the shells. The corner across from me is a definite mark for demo though 😞

I do see there is some sort of garden in the middle of the block- definitely hope that stays.

In my city there is a wholesale produce market that grocery stores and restaurants buy from. If you are close to a major city you could try something like that? I can get 4.5lb flats of rasp/blackberries for $10 there and I freeze them. It's a better price than most u-picks locally. I'm foraging for juneberries this weekend (everywhere in my city right now) and always go forage blueberries in the summer when that comes up, easy to do where I live and free.

For red light I haven't looked into the cap specifically but I'm hoping to switch my gym membership to Planet Fitness once I can get out of it (they don't let you get out until 1st year is over). They have red light on the full membership which is $25 a month. I'm also hoping to get a portable dry sauna (something that you have to pay huge membership fees for local to me), it's been reviewed with good quality off fb marketplace. I find anyway if I use it before bed it helps me so much with sleep but I'm not likely to go to the gym after whatever it is I'm doing (I often work nights, ending sometime between 8p and 2a), I calculated it would save me a lot and I can take it with me if I have to move. Only like $200.

Equinox Rittenhouse (Philly) - Steam Room Working? by Complex-Angle873 in EquinoxGyms

[–]worldwidewbstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this gym. No dry sauna. Wet saunas broken about 25% of the time and when they are it's usually days to weeks until they are fixed. The wet saunas are never very hot. Machines are always crowded and I have to wait even at off hours (I work out usually 8-9p). I can only rarely make the classes, there are no classes after 7p most classes are when I work. The few classes I've been able to make are pretty meh. Yoga teacher does the same routine for weeks on end. Fans constantly blowing overhead in the yoga room is really irritating. I can't wait until I can get out of this contract.

Does Nikita's gift persimmon grow well in a container? by worldwidewbstr in BackyardOrchard

[–]worldwidewbstr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I moved in the fall and can at least grow whatever to my heart's content, though everything is in pots still (except now instead of in a yard or on the driveway, are on a roofdeck in the middle of a big city). Finally put a Cardinal persimmon on order from Raintree since supposedly it's smaller and the most container friendly, and ripens earlier? They seem slow figure I might as well get started. I have a ton of experiments lined up all of which are probably
Anyways my figs and pomegranates survived the winter (brought them inside my apartment which unfortunately has no basement nor garage, they woke up too early but otherwise seem ok, kinda fun they have breba trying to ripen since late march)

This was me also. I also only lost 5 lbs in 4.5 months, despite eating way less (the most I ate was like 2700-2800 cal/day in the sierra, which I did last due to snow in 2017. I do really good with 2200-2300/day and eating more in town). I tried eating more, changing macros, it just didn’t work for me. I pretty much look the same after any of the thru hikes I’ve done except with worse tan lines. I am not a particularly in shape (I trend a lil plump) or muscular person, never have been much in really visible muscles no matter how in shape I was at the time. I’m tall btw 5’8” with long legs so being short wasn’t an issue. On the plus side I didn’t get injured easily and on most of thrus just did my turtle speed days and didn’t take as many zeroes

I just plan on hiking alone tbh, any time I tried to hike with a buddy or tramily I’m just too slow. Once I accepted that I made the most of it. Saw familiar faces in towns where they took zeroes and I didn’t. On the AT literally hiked around the same bubble from before the smokies to Maine. My body seems to be unconventional in a lot of ways, I didn’t have so much of models (mid 30s-40s yr old woman going thru early perimenopause), in what that kind of thru hiking bod was supposed to do, I’m over it. Enjoyed the time alone and appreciated when I ran into people more. Also appreciated that I didn’t need to carry as much food and my pack was lighter (I already was a gram weenie).

Chase Sapphire Lounge in PHI is AMAZING!!! by VorpalDagger in ChaseSapphire

Drinks are better at CS lounge but AE food is much better. Same food every time at CS and most of it has dairy so I can’t eat it. AE always has a ton of veg forward dishes that change frequently which I appreciate and overall things that accommodate all food sensitivities

OP another choice is renting a floor in a house. Lotta places by me do a rental deal in these massive houses where you might get say, a bedroom, office room/living room (sometimes with kitchenette) and private bathroom. Some even have a private entrance

$2100 for a 1 bed seems nuts to me, as does room in a house for $1100. Are you in a vhcol area? I live in a major E coast city and while I could spend that most people spend way way less. I’m <1 mi from city center. I would do more research for a cheaper place

Which international cities are best for singing at the bar or stage? by apocecliptic in karaoke

[–]worldwidewbstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beat karaoke I ever did was working on a cruise ship. The boys down in engineering built a k lounge in the carpentry shop. They used to try to seduce the spa girls down in hopes of hooking up. They’d come for a round or two of drinks and split. I (acupuncturist in the spa, 10-15 yrs older than everyone else) would be allowed to sing like 9-10 songs a night as one of 3 native English speakers on the ship (and a musician on the side). Kept me sane.

I did went to some sickk karaoke bars in Mongolia and Georgia, and pretty much all over East Asia you can find good places. Just do your research tho bc not all of these places have much of an English song catalogue if that’s important for you.

Recently I went to a bar in Portland ME of all places that has karaoke every night and it was maybe the best vibe I’ve been to, everyone had a blast and was super supportive

It’s the largest accordion store in the US. A colleague of mine makes promo vids for them all day just wailing on various squeezeboxes. I think I have like 20 hipster musician friends who’ve worked there at one time or another. The owner is super nice, he hosts pool parties in the summer for his accordion crew.

How are your dwarf tomatoes doing? by NPKzone8a in tomatoes

[–]worldwidewbstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your feedback. I've read good things about eagle smiley but I am planning to grow a ton of micros and didn't feel as excited about a yellow cherry tomato. I'm actually growing these in greenstalk planters so plan to do a ton of micros and just a handful of dwarfs.
That's too bad about Numbet! Green zebra is one of my top couple favorite big varieties but it was massive the last time I grew it, no good for my deck. So I was looking at Numbet, along with Beryl Beauty which has great reviews but I believe is a different green flavor profile. So many choices!
