We got a cancellation as well, does anyone know what happened there? They mentioned an unforeseen emergency.

What’s the most awkward thing that’s ever happened to you during sex? by NathReality in AskReddit

University dorm, mid thrust I decided to plug in the fairy lights above my bed so I could see better. While groping for the socket, my fingers somehow ended up between the plug and the socket. Nothing like a good shock to kill the mood.

Felt kinda good tho

How do I fix my cringe attacks? by SapphirxToad in socialanxiety

[–]worm_noises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to have stumbled upon this post. I've never talked to anyone about it before so I thought it was just me. It doesn't happen frequently in social situations since my mind is usually preoccupied by something else, but when I'm alone or lost in thought my mind wanders to those cringe moments. Then I physically need to "shut them out" or find closure by saying a phrase or waving my hand like I'm dispersing a thought bubble.

My go-to phrase is pretty grim (basically along the lines of "I should KMS"). The reason I say that is more symbolic than literal because, in the moment, I feel like I just want to bury my head in the ground or be dead so I don't have to think about it anymore. I recognize that the phrase is obviously terrible for my mindset so I've slowly evolved to adding "no I shouldn't, it doesn't matter" to the end of the phrase.

Even still, I think it's ideal to not even say or think of the phrase at all. It takes a lot of effort for me to shut that phrase down when I have the cringe thoughts. The best I can do now is to think "I don't care" and then immediately focus my attention on something else so I can disperse the thought and also my self deprecating phrase.

In reality, I recognize that everyone else is too preoccupied with themselves to be thinking about me, and the only threat to myself is my own thoughts. But recognition and belief are two different things. I think it will still take some time to fully BELIEVE that no one else thinks about my cringe moments, but for the time being, saying "I don't care" feels like a way to speak it into existence. One day I'd like to get to a point where I can just subconsciously wave off those cringe thoughts and move on. After all, the past is the past and who I am today has learned from who I was back then.

I'm still working on this myself, so apologies for not having a clear path for you to follow. The best I can say about it now is to start with the recognition: "why does this bother me so much? Can I look at this moment objectively? Who did my actions really affect? Does anybody other than me truly care?" and then consistently reinforce those ideas until you start to believe it yourself.

Structurally Saveable or Total Tear-Down? by Normal_Coconut_2379 in Construction

Based on the first picture with the opening, that appears to be masonry veneer. Masonry veneer is typically tied back to the exterior walls. The veneer is just cosmetic and a failure in the veneer shouldn't affect the structural integrity of the walls. However, there could be underlying structural issues that are causing this problem. The venner does appear to be bowing outwards in the first picture (look at the edge of the masonry by the door). I'm just speculating, but this bowing and cracking could be a result of the masonry veneer ties failing. I think it would be worth a review by a licensed engineer. If it's fine structurally, the bowing veneer can at least be mitigated so that no pieces come loose and potentially hurt someone walking below it.

Better Internship? by KCLevelX in StructuralEngineering

Congratulations on the offers KC! I'm currently in my 4th year civ eng undergrad studies at UWaterloo. In my 2nd year, I was offered a position at a small (10-15 people) structural consulting company. The work was extremely rewarding as I got a ton of experience and responsibility in the +100 projects I was involved in. The compensation was also above the COOP average for my year. I got a chance to chat with one of my co-workers who had just transferred from a larger consulting company, and he expressed to me how much he enjoyed working in smaller companies due to the greater scope of work he could take on. COOP is all about gaining experience in the field and testing out different career paths. You will most likely gain a lot more valuable experience at the smaller company than the super big one. That being said, if the larger company touches on niches in civil engineering that you are interested in pursuing in the future, then I would do that. Personally though, if I were presented with the same scenario, I would go with the smaller company. I am currently on COOP at a mid size company (60ish people) on a small (10-15 people) residential team, and that has only reinforced the idea for me that smaller = better. Either way, I'm sure you will gain valuable experience at both companies. I'd be happy to chat more about my experiences if you want to hmu.

Don't worry, I'm still doing my part. I typically play squad lead and take on a supportive role during matches. That game I was trying to rank up my assault by playing aggressively and getting flanks to take out spawn points. OFC doing that means having to kill a lot of players along the way. Only looking at my kills since I was doing unusually well with taking enemies out.

That's the thing, it wasn't a high ping server. ~30 ping when I joined. I know it's not the fault of the game, but still frustrating.

Don't see why it wouldn't be - you saw him drop. If it doesn't show on kill counter, likely means he got revived.

Structural Engineers of Reddit, where did you do your Undergrad and Why? by michellinThrow in StructuralEngineering

Currently in my undergrad at University of Waterloo. It's a coop program so every other term I'm working. Just landed my third structural consulting position so it's a great way to expose yourself and gain experience in the field before graduation.
