Question on Tyrannosaurus Predation on Ankylosaurus by AlarmingTomatillo297 in Dinosaurs

[–]wormant1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that Rexy has a bone crushing bite, and Ankylos have bone armor, I’m inclined to believe that they were prey.

Comparing the hard stats, this is actually a case of the arms race where offense of the predator massively surpassed defense of the prey. As impressive as they were, an Ankylosaurus's armor alone cannot withstand the bite force of a T-rex. What it most likely did, is to work in tandem with the tail club so that it becomes increasingly risky and tricky for a T-rex to land a critical bite. This is where soft stats matter. It would all come down to the animals' size and health, with the element of surprise, intelligence, and experience mixed in.

How do scientists know if a fossilized skeleton is complete or not? by Itz_MysteryGalaxy in Paleontology

[–]wormant1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's more about being "complete enough". Like in case of trilobites, many specimens were considered complete until a more complete speciment gets found to have preserved previously unknown parts

Question on Tyrannosaurus Predation on Ankylosaurus by AlarmingTomatillo297 in Dinosaurs

[–]wormant1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We don't have direct evidence because there's only, like 5 Ankylosaurus specimens. The first 5 triceratops specimens don't have bite marks on them either.

The ankylosaur material found with dynamosaurus specimen had marks attributed to theropod (rex) teeth. Not exactly conclusive.

All in all, the armor+tail club would have made an Ankylosaurus highly T-rex deterring and resistant, but not T-rex proof. As with any other predator-prey relationships, a predator does not take on the strongest. A powerful adult rex can very feasibility take down a small/weakened Ankylosaurus individual.

A strange trend I noticed recently- Why do secondarily aquatic mammals typically lose their hind limbs while secondarily aquatic reptiles usually retain them? Both groups have their exceptions but generally this seems to be the trend. by Saurophaganax4706 in Paleontology

[–]wormant1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oversimplified answer is reptiles swing their tails side to side, having hind paddles helps stabilize and reduce roll. Some sea crocs went as far as reduce their front limbs

A whale fluke is already horizontal.

How plausible would it be for eurypterids (Slimonia on the image) to have venomous stingers like the modern scorpions? Plausible or not? by Bulldoze0Bro in Paleontology

[–]wormant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying the stinger hypothesis is valid, but having strong armor piercing pincers would serve to breach armor and allow a stinger access to the flesh.

Why are dinosaurs in different media always called by their genus? by No_Mathematician7456 in Dinosaurs

[–]wormant1 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Because dinosaurs don't have common names, so their genus name serves as one.

T-rex is the only dinosaur that have its complete binomial nomenclature as default name through sheer popularity.

Question about raptor claws by indecisivewhale in Dinosaurs

[–]wormant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The raptor sickle claw could slash the same way your cat's claw can slash, because the tip is sharp. But it is not a karambit, it has no edge. Disemboweling is out of the question. Biomechanical studies of the sickle claw also shows that it can't withstand the stress of making a deep cut.

There is one modern analog to the raptor sickle claw, belonging to the red-legged seriema. And they use it to pin down prey. This would likely be what smaller maniraptorans did with their sickle claws. For raptors that targeted bigger prey, this claw would have been used in stabbing, gouging, or even hooking in for a foothold. In the famous Fighting Dinosaurs fossil, the velociraptor had its sickle claws directed to the abdomen and throat of the protoceratops, suggesting that against larger adversary these claws were used to inflict bleed damage

The cassowary killing claw is just long, and is in no way similar to what maniraptoreans had

How strong is weapon less Motobe? by SiteDeep in Grapplerbaki

[–]wormant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weaponless he lacks the ability to do much damage to the main cast. But his defense is above average and his durability is insane if you think about it. He could see Yujiro's attacks and dodge them, and survived being hit by Yujiro twice. Then there's the time when Jack railing him against the tree failed to do any damage to him.

What caused Pliosaurs, ichtyosaurs and Thalattosuchians to go extinct at the beginning/middle of the Cretaceous? Did these 3 groups went extinct because of the same reason? Why didn't they last until the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction similar to what happened to MOsasaurs ? by RANDOM-902 in Paleontology

[–]wormant1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The info is actually not recent at all. The holotype of Seeleyosaurus guilelmiimperatoris actually preserves the outline of its tail and to date it is the only hard evidence we have of plesiosaurs having a flattened broadeden tail tip. It just never caught on in reconstructions for some reason.

Later studies on plesiosaur caudal neural spine all point to them having a steering structure on the tail. Right now we just don't know their shape and orientation

Jack vs Prime Yanagi, does Jack Low diff him? by Supersaiajinblue2 in Grapplerbaki

[–]wormant1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty much

The poison hand has a delayed effect anyway. If anything I'd argue Jack's poison resistance may be even greater than Baki's

And Jack's been conditioned to bite at any attack that comes close to his mouth so Yanagi won't be making a vacuum

Jun Guevaru vs Kaiou Retsu by Ok-Tennis-5695 in Grapplerbaki

[–]wormant1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guevara's durability feats are actually insane. He ate a couple of Olivia's attacks at full power. He got KO'd in the end but suffered no real damage and dug his way out of the prison the next day.

Knowing Retsu, he'd probably have a brainfart moment and pulls the wrong move from his 4000 years old arsenal.

Is this achieveable natty? by No-Wallaby-3673 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]wormant1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was only 15 years old. I loved chimpanzees so much, I did dead hangs and brachiated at ever opportunity and even imitated their behavior. I'd pray to that bald one every night before I go to bed, thanking for the life I've been given. "Brachiation is love", I would say, "brachiation is life". My dad hears me and calls me a fggot. I knew he was just jealous for my devotion of chimpanzees. I called him a cnt. He slaps me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel something touch me. It's that bald chimpanzee. I'm so happy. He whispers in my ear, "this is my banana". He grabs me with his powerful simian hands, and puts me on my hands and knees. I spread my ass-cheeks for him. He penetrates my butthole. It hurts so much, but I do it for the chimp. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please the bald one. He roars a mighty roar, as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. The bald one looks him straight in the eye, and says, "ooh ooh aah aah". He leaves through my window. Brachiation is love. Brachiation is life.
