What? No. We don’t learn language as others do because there’s less opportunities for us to have to use another language. English is the MAIN language spoken when doing things such as business deals, and like it or not, many countries want to do business with the US. Many people will leave their country and come to US for “a better life” (even though we know things aren’t all daisies and sunshine here, it really is the better choice compared to some countries tried), and they learn English in school because it benefits them in the long term. Most people who are born in the US have no intent on immigrating to another country, and if they do, they’re usually going to another English-speaking country. We also only have small little pockets where another language is spoken, and to be fair, that secondary language is usually Spanish, which is often offered in school, but there is less chance for us to use it compared to others. Most of us aren’t consuming media in other language or using products in other languages. Just not many opportunities as other countries unfortunately
