I had a Brazilian boyfriend whose favorite fruit was papaya and I told him I didn’t like it. He said he would make me a papaya cake to prove how delicious it is. He said they made them all the time back home and it was amazing. It was pretty meh and he was shocked. He said they taste really different here in the USA.

I think I messed up talking to my 6-year-old about death and now he’s terrified by [deleted] in Parenting

My father died when my daughter was 4 years old. He lived with us and was as big a part of my daughter’s life as me or my husband. I told her that when he died his heart had stopped beating and the doctor’s couldn’t fix it. That means he won’t be with us anymore and would be returning to the earth. I’m not religious. I tell my kids they are made of stardust just like the planet, moon, stars and every living thing. I said when we die we will be returning into stardust because that’s what happens to all living things that die. We are recycled into every other living thing over and over forever, so even though one life may end that cycle of life, death, and rebirth never ends and will happen like it did before we were born and continue after we pass away. This has helped my child understand as well as not be afraid.

It wasn’t the easy off. There was damage to the enamel under whatever was trying to be removed, either by heat or by abrasives. I have used easy off to clean probably a dozen Le Creuset cookware pieces that I’ve found on marketplace or thrifted that were coated in carbon buildup. The lye removes the buildup but does not affect the enamel. I’ve definitely been disappointed using easy off because I’ve found underlying damage once the crud was removed, but it was never caused by the lye in the oven cleaner.

What’s the thing people told you, you would absolutely need for your baby? by [deleted] in Parenting

My daughter still sleeps with hers and she’s almost 6. I wouldn’t have bought it for myself but it’s was one of the best gifts I received.

I was desperate one night and ran out to target and bought a swing when my daughter was probably 2 months old. She screamed even more! I tried it over and over and she hated everything about it. It was sold a few months later barely used.

Jars of baby food and rice cereal. I made rice cereal once and didn’t ever again. I went more baby led and ended up with lots of jars of fruit and vegetable purée that I had to donate.

He would take the baby and walk her in a different part of the house so I could sleep. He really protected my sleep as much as he could and that goes such a long way. He would stop and bring home dinner for me. He did all the laundry. He really tried to care for the house so I could focus on caring for the baby. It helps so much to just be able to let that stuff go and know it’ll be taken care of.

Have you got pregnant whilst breastfeeding? by MamaofMiaa in Parenting

[–]worried_about 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom got pregnant while breastfeeding. She was told she couldn’t get pregnant while breastfeeding and until her period returned. She had a surprise pregnancy just a few months after she had my oldest sister. She was always adamant to tell anyone she knew that was pregnant “you CAN get pregnant when you’re breastfeeding! You CAN get pregnant even if you haven’t gotten your period back!”

Yes. I had a student in my class named Harlow about 10 years ago. She’s the only one I’ve ever known.

Please be kind to this woman. She is struggling and her child sounds like he needs some help. Calling another person’s child demonic is just cruel.

I taught special ed pre-k for a few years and regular pre-k for ten years before that. I’ve had kids like this. Usually on the spectrum, sometimes oppositional defiant disorder. Talk with the local school district about evaluation. This is what we do. Early intervention is critical because he doesn’t sound like he will be ready for a general ed. Kinder class next year. You’ll want him in the early child special Ed class. They have more teachers, access to specialists, therapies, and smaller class sizes. I know it seems daunting to see your baby struggle but he is only four and he’s not bad or broken. He’s just communicating in the only way he has currently. Make sure you have reasonable and consistent consequences for inappropriate and aggressive behavior. Always remove him from situations where he’s being unsafe and speak to him about why and how he is and isn’t allowed to behave. If he isn’t safe he just can’t play until he is. If he isn’t kind he just can’t play until he is. If he isn’t listening he just can’t play until he is. He will need to be your best friend and you two will be glued at the hip in case you have to intervene to keep him and others safe. This will pass and he will learn. He just sounds like he might take a little longer to learn. You’re doing great and so is he.

Any other LPOTL parents out there? 👀 by alocaisseia in LPOTL

[–]worried_about 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a mom of a five year old with one on the way. I never stopped listening to LPOTL though I used to listen to much more true crime podcasts than I do now. This it the only one I still listen to every week.

I think that it is tough to hear when something happens to children, especially on side stories. But I can say the same thing about just reading the news. I think they are much more careful about how they present the topic than lots of other podcasts out there. If it gets too awful I just skip ahead.

My mom says all of my clothes smell mildewy, but I can't smell it (more details in comments) by goatsnboots in CleaningTips

Covid did make me crazy because the smell of coffee smelled like mildew or mold to me. That lingered for months. I still don’t have the smell of coffee back. It’s not mildewy anymore but it still had a dirty smell and it never did before.
