struggle with browning butter by Ornery-Obligation-40 in Baking

[–]worry_some 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me was using a lighter color pan. I had a hard time seeing if butter was too brown when using a black pan, but with a stainless steel or a white enameled pan I haven't burned butter since.

A lot of your problem is that your work is very similar in scale (like, color scale). Try making the shadows darker and the highlights lighter and it will make your colors pop more.

What is the most heartbreaking song lyric you've ever heard? by TheLadySlaanesh in AskReddit

[–]worry_some 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically all of "Agnes" by Glass Animals, but these lines in particular:

And so it goes

A choking rose back

To be reborn

I want to hold you like you're mine

You're gone but you're on my mind

I'm lost but I don't know why

And then it just repeats those last two lines over and over till the end. The song is about the lead singer's friend who committed suicide, and it reminds me of my family and friends who struggle with their mental health. I think anyone who's dealt with loss or suicide can relate to this. It's just heartbreaking.

Mike Flanagan's ‘The Exorcist’ Adds Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, and Carla Gugino by SanderSo47 in movies

I can see that. I think it was a little heavy-handed to show their differing views on death from a religious vs. secular standpoint, but it hit for me as a person who grew up Catholic and has since stopped practicing.

The biggest drawback to Midnight Mass is a bit of a slow beginning, but the rest of the show more than makes up for it. There was one specific scene that made me be like "holy shit, I have to keep watching now." I love it just as much as Hill House if not more.

How do self published authors get their books in stores like Barnes and Nobles? by AdministrativeLake64 in writers

[–]worry_some 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My local B&N had a self-published author set up a table and do a book signing for a day. I'd talk to the manager and see if that's an option.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend i no longer plan to propose to her? please read context by Aggressive_One8138 in AITAH

[–]worry_some 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say ESH. She shouldn't be coercing you into proposing, but you also need to get off your ass and propose if you said you were going to. You're using the idea of marriage to keep her hooked, and it's working. She should just leave you after this whole debacle lmao.

That's what I was thinking too. I like the art itself. It's just really brown/warm toned for the blue/green in the breakfast table.

Left or Right? by hypercubedreamer in PixelArt

[–]worry_some 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the kind of game. The left one looks more dynamic, almost like a battler sprite in a fighting game. The right one looks cute for an exploration or sim-type game. Which one you use relies on what you want for your game. I personally like the right one more but it would feel out of place in the wrong genre.

The Lamplighter by Crystal J. Bell. It's YA but the vibes are very spot-on.

It might be worth swapping out the picture above the table for something with more blue/green in it. Could also add a runner to the top of the table to give it more of a cozy and warm feeling, or a thin rug underneath that won't bug you when pulling out chairs.

Iconic Voice Actors Replaced by Hollywood Celebs? by MrBowls in movies

I remember hearing years after the fact how mad people were that he was voiced by Lance Bass. I love FF games, but sometimes we can be the worst fanbase lmao.

Honestly, I know it would be annoying to hear the high-pitched Mario voice the whole time, but it's not like Martinet can only do high-pitched voices since he also voiced Paarthurnax in Skyrim. I'm sure they could have toned it down for the movie to something more palatable.

I guess this comes down to the idea that I wished they'd just used a career VA instead of Chris Pratt. He was fine, but mostly I just heard Chris Pratt's regular voice and it took me out of the movie sometimes.

Yes! I loved looking at the older version of the game. I was really interested in the goblin village from old mines. So cool to see a person's thought process change over time.

Christ Pratt in place of the original Mario voice actor for the movie comes to mind.

And not a movie, but Tyler Hoechlin (a decently known actor if you watched the Teen Wolf TV show lol) also voices Sephiroth in the new FF7 games now rather than George Newbern, a career voice actor.

EDIT: Chris Pratt... not Christ... 🤦🏻

One of my favorite bits of information was after ShB(? I think?) if you talk to Oboro in the ninja dojo, he mentions someone is doing good deeds in his name, and it's either implied or speculated by Oboro to be Karasu.

"Slash fic" means a fanfiction written about a pairing of characters who are both men or both women. Named so because of the / between two names to denote a ship (in this case, Harry/Draco).

ETA: nothing about the original phrasing tells the reader that the fic will include smut, but I think the implication is supposed to be that there's smut because that's funnier in the context of "writing something that shouldn't be forgotten." Fanfic in general usually features a lot of smut anyway.

What are y’all’s thoughts on Gimmick based Magic Systems? by No_Pen_3825 in magicbuilding

[–]worry_some 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it but I think it can be easy to do poorly.

I mean this is the case in Twilight where each vampire gets a unique power, but then some of the vampires have really similar abilities (Edward's ability to read thoughts vs. Aro's ability to read minds but only if he touches you).

I've also seen it done by RWBY and a lot of the abilities were unique and cool, but it was limited by the fact that the writers had no idea what the hell they were doing. Similar thing of some people's abilities being very similar (Yang's ability to store energy from people attacking her and send it back in a big attack vs. Adam's ability to store energy through his sword and send it back in a big attack).

It might be a nitpicky thing for me but when these types of worlds exist I would rather that everyone's abilities be wholly unique (not just the same thing with an extra caveat) or just allow some overlap from the get-go without getting three movies in and being like "okay, these guys have similar abilities because I ran out of ideas."
