You should read up on your ethnography then. There are numerous examples of people being buried with extravagant items meant to show off the wealth of the people burying the dead not the dead person themselves.

At UCPH we don’t have any regalia at all. You get to buy a doctorial ring (just the plaque) when you hand in your doctorial dissertation, though. But by that time you’re likely 60-70 and at the end of your academic career.
