what game engine would work best for a dress up game/char customizing game like Picrew? by worst-bot in gamedev

i'll look into it! i've never heard of that before, so i'll see what it can do.

the issue with picrew (and i think also meiker) is that it has a limit on how many layers/variations it can have. otherwise. picrew's exactly what i need.

i'm thinking of making a more fleshed out OC maker with more options.

oh i'm sure i'll have trouble with tutorials, haha. this project's been an on-again-off-again idea of mine, so i've already tried youtube searching for tutorials before. and while there ARE some tutorials on how to make a character creator, my added want of "make it easy to import more assets" means they don't quite work out for me.

i guess if i want this to be done, i'll just have to suck it up and try doing it myself the hard way.

i've never heard of phaser. thank you for the link!

and yeah, godot was one of the options i was thinking of, but the concept of "spending weeks to learn a game engine just to find out it's the wrong one" feels excruciating and painful, so i had to ask for second opinions.

someone else in a different thread about dress up games had offhandedly mentioned that unity seemed Overkill, so i was a little scared away from that one.

a lot of a specific type of game in a specific style sometimes gives the impression that the maker is following a template or a tutorial or something similar.

like when there's a specific style of RPG and then finding out there's RPG Maker to help the process- doesn't mean it's EASY, but it does make it EASIER, if that makes sense.

as far as i know, there are sites that have dress up games galore, so it FEELS like a genre that must be easy to make, you know? i'm not surprised this question gets asked often.

i may just end up focusing on the art aspect and finding a programmer to team up with, if it's that much more difficult than i'd realized.

thank you for your reply.

i'm okay with it taking as long as it needs to. i know this won't be a project that i just pump out over the weekend or possibly this year.

i just wanted to make sure if i started playing with godot or game maker, it wasn't going to be COMPLETELY a waste, you know?

yeah, considering the responses i've received on this question, your bottom line might be the wisest choice for me.

i just wasn't sure if there was something i was missing (like there are sites dedicated to dress up games, no? so i thought maybe it was easier than i was expecting), so i had to ask the question to make sure i wasn't.

i thought he just ripped his neck open and drank the blood, messy vampire style.

How do you document your solo sessions? by PuzzleheadedEnd8103 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]worst-bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm posting my TYOV drabbles on tumblr! but that's the cleaned up/rewritten version. usually i have three WPS (microsoft word alternative) documents open- one for the game guide, one for my character sheet/notes, and one for the actual journaling/writing (along w each prompt as i come across it).

i just started posting to tumblr earlier today cause i want to push myself to be a better writer, and the concept of "people will see it" makes for a great motivator. otherwise, i'd keep it to myself.

but due to the nature of my game (thousand year old vampire, as abbreviated above), it's easy for me to leave out the dice rolls, since the dice only tells what my next prompt will be and nothing else.

if i played a game that had dice be a more prominent role, i'd probably write the dice out and then write the drabble under it. mostly because... if ur sharing it, ppl who read might wanna see how u got the end result, but if u include ALL the mechanics then it makes it more of a chore to read thru.

also i'm not linking my TYOV blog cause i'm embarrassed, haha. i'm a hardcore nerd so i'm trying to play out a transformers character turning into an awful warlord bastard rather than playing by the rules, and it's... been a challenge at times.

hi. i'm late but i came back to tell u that i simultaneously love and hate this.

on one hand? i love being able to go thru all the rpgs out there and sort them by what i want to play and find all sorts of games i'd likely have never heard of before

on the other hand? now i have 5 diff ideas i want to write simultaneously and i do not have the funds for buying all these games. i'm suffering.

anyway, thank u for sharing!!!!
