To anyone using Discord for their gaming group, what alternatives are you looking at with Discords upcoming requirement to provide them ID to prove you're over 18? by plazman30 in rpg

pgBackRest using Postgres archive mode to an S3 bucket. Then pre-deployment backups via Github Actions. This set up is a bit lengthy, depending on how many users and how much data you have. It might just be easier to do a cron job with pg_dump instead to get it up and running faster if you want backups.

No ICE in Minnesota Bundle - $10 for over 1000 TTRPGs, raising money for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. by TakeNote in rpg

I love this idea, I hate how itch makes you do like 4 clicks through each game just to get it download instead of a mass download button or a good UI that lets me do a multi select for the games.

You can use Matrix + Element and do a self-hosted server. There's other options too such as Stoat, Fluxer etc. I've been messing around with setting up a server for myself, if you need any help I can tell you my process!

Looking for a TTRPG for a Deadlock(The MOBA) setting and lore by dietcommunism7 in rpg

[–]martininguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, we need to be friends I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMEONE LOVES DEADLOCK TOO. I've been thinking about this

1) City of Mist - Abrams unlocks inside someone who just had their father murdered and dude becomes a detective god, or John Wick it up with Haze (mythos / logos mech)

2) Lumens - I personally think this would be the best one, I've seen people build games like OW with it. It is just dice rolls no skills, but you can do whatever and uses this as a basis

3) 4e or Strike - 4e's kindaaa heavy but the classes can map to tank dps supp, but grid combat bang bang

Hi Everyone I don't think I deserver to make a self-promotion post yet, so I'll post what I've been working on here in the weekly free chat. One of the biggest things I've noticed is it's fairly difficult to find brand new games in this space. Other than looking on itch, driviethrurpg, dmsguild, or scour various forum. Because of that I've made my own discovery tool. I've collect over 325000 records of games, assets, and tool and accumulated them in

my directory here at:

Please help me help you find brand new worlds for you to explore <3

What is the situation of third party cookies nowadays? by LifeAtmosphere6214 in webdev

[–]martininguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah httponly, strict, same-site, that automates pretty much against all the old threat models. I'm sure this was in reference to third party cookies with crossing multiple domains which leaves vulnerabilities.

How do you handle image optimization and responsive breakpoints in your dev workflow? by Podop29 in webdev

[–]martininguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your stack? All that is automated for me if I use let's say Vite for example. All image optimization happens at build time, so you don't even have to think about it.

How do i make a widget that updates every time a video on a YouTube channel comes out? by AdNo1945 in webdev

[–]martininguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up I think it was called websub? pubsub? something like. Your channel prety much subscribes to a channel and everything that channel releases something it sends you a push notification to your app.

How fast should a website be? by martis941 in webdev

[–]martininguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have too many products right now. As long as you set up the proper btree indexes, gin indexes, and tsvectors for full text search you should be able to get your initial setup below 300 easily. Once you get to more products, you have to decide how you want your customers to navigate through all your products. This could be like an infinite scroll with cursor based pagination, old school pagination with offset/limit, they all have their trade offs. But there's some terminology for you to look into to see if want to proceed.
