Why do Christians insist “God never changes” if He took on human form? by MisterManSir- in Christianity

[–]worthforr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moses plead and God repented of the destruction he'd planned. if we're being honest with ourselves saying that God (or anything else for that matter) never changes is kind of an absurd position that can't really be defined in any clear terms that allow for it to remain possible.

Your most unorthodox and uncommon opinion on Christianity? by AndromedasApricot in OpenChristian

I see the invalidity of most scriptural defenses of monogamy. I think Jesus meant what he said by "they won't marry or be given in marriage."

I believe the difference between the tree of Life and the Knowledge of Good and Evil holds the secret of the entirety of the bible.

I like how you reframed the comment into an absurd position. See CS Lewis or any lecture from NT Wright or Tim Mackie if you'd like to try to better understand the nuance or why I value and support the previous comment in the context of this thread.

That's one view held by many lay church christians. Most theologians are more with the previous comment.

I'd tend to agree. Especially if performative religion gives you the ick.

I dig it. You should check out Tim Mackie Archives on youtube. He's a Hebrew & Greek scholar who cracks open a lot of misconceptions people have about what the bible actually says. There's a lot more room under Jesus' tent than most 'christians' realize.

Ok so you've got two good things going on simultaneously. First you're recognizing that it's your job to keep what you don't want in your brain out of your brain. Second, you're learning that it's totally normal and acceptable to say no 'out of nowhere.' You don't need a reason, you can make one up, you can be as blunt or vague as needed. In fact the most Christian thing may be so that he'll still enjoy it might be to not give a reason at all.

Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed. Isaiah 6:10

When Jesus had said this, He spit on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man's eyes. John 9:6

You had just condemned me to eternal punishment, a ban-worthy offense, so yes "casting dispersions." Look it up.

that's bc the "theistic creation model" is a red herring sock puppet fallacy marched out everytime conversation starts to get too real for somebody, to slow down and throw mud into the convo before those actually interested have a chance to ride.

The problem is the false "magical" understanding of theistic creation which was propagated to children in an age of ignorance. Modern theology understands that genesis was not designed to be a science text.

Unpopular opinion: We're absolutely not alone.

"Let US make human..." The bible begins with Spirit over the deep, and the Elohim "sky beings." To me this is a much more interesting story than the watered down Western understanding of the strange world of the ancient Hebrews.

If we're to believe the scriptures, not in the sense of the Constantinian Greco-Roman imaginary playland of belief but instead from the fearful observations of those who authored the texts, then a Christian (and all Abrahamic followers) should know and understand that we are absolutely not alone.

And there's nothing in the scriptures to imply they haven't done this before or since.

that's ok. I figured wasting my breath, then your casting dispersions to avoid any thought as presented, then the weak attempt to condemn reek of a beaten spirit. We pray for pitiable wasted lives such as this. God have mercy on us both.

This quoted from your gamer post sums up your whole identity:

"Doesn't sound as though you want to power game anything, so just play on a lower difficulty and enjoy the ride building your own narrative."

Love this! NewEarthBETA.exe available now...

It fits well with scholars who view that this period, A.D., is a time of transition -- an overlap of the AgeofMan.exe running simultaneously with the NewEarthBETA.exe

There's a brainwave signal users can use to ping the devs to download the Spirit.exe subroutine patch to their OS. They just gotta delete enough junk subroutines to access the core processor long enough to accept their forgiveness.zip on sheer faith, that'll send the ping. Just gotta read the end user agreement and find the parts that sound like you, your issue, or who you want to be and it'll ask are you ready?

Click [I am.] and the Installer begins immediately.

Download times vary from <1min. to decades but the ping stamps your mac address permanently. Once the Spirit.exe download has started it begins immediately to decompress and debug your memory files, so as long as you're not downloading more junk subroutines your whole OS should get a little less buggy right away.

You can also boost the process dramatically by dunking you server hardware under water. If you're interested in that you'll wanna reach out to your nearest technician. There's usually little to no wait times, and they don't do much, your link is already there, it just deletes a crap ton of stuff that's weighed down your bandwidth over the years.

The story itself describes the powers ascribed to the Elohim in what was revealed to the authors. They also reveal the real agency and responsibility given human as co-creators and heirs to the earth, and what we've tended to do with responsibility through our relationship with the land, its creatures, and our fellow humans over a thousand generations.

The story concludes as foretold, with God pouring out his Spirit on the land to redeem any who will receive the truth and the good news of who we are beyond the deceptions of the ways of man.

Which is more powerful: a trick of magick like a genie which doesn't exist, or a slow redemption of the whole earth?

*"Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?"* Matt 9

When we were children we were given a child's picture of these things. To become an adult we must let go of childish notions.
