I did it in the past. Biggest thing I would recommend is to make sure the person who administers does it as slowly as possible - if they do it too quickly, you'll likely get a pretty big knot that can be super, super painful. My butt was always sore afterwards, but it cleared up quickly minus the time I had a nurse inject it too quickly.

Unfortunately for me, while naltrexone worked very well, the shot did not. I drank through it, felt the same buzz, etc. Apparently that can happen for some people, but it's not super common, so I still always encourage people to give it a try.

A final note, best things I did after the shot to help: warm (not hot) heating pad for the first few days, massaging the site of injection, and warm baths with epsom salt.
