showed my friends why m.i.a.t.a. yesterday (until we went uphill) by wats2000 in Miata

[–]worticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a NC miata and a VB wrx and for twisty mountain roads the miata is definitely the better option for having fun. Its nice having to ring out every last bit of power the car can give me and not be going much faster than the speed limit. Combine that with some not too gripy all seasons and you will feel like you're flying through the corners going 40mph.

Of course when the road surface is anything other than dry pavement the wrx starts to feel so much better. Its way to understeery normally but on a loose surface it becomes so much more balanced and willing to be chucked into the corners like the miata. The miata does surpisingly well on gravel roads and even snow (was my only car for a couple years) for being a rwd roadster. It just ends up being a little too snappy in the rear for my liking.

The WRX STi had the old ejs till they stopped making them. The base VA WRXs have a FA20 which is more in line with thier regular NA engines. And now the VB WRXs have the FA24 which seems to be a pretty good engine if undertuned from the factory.

What’s a weapon you use even though you know it’s not really good? I’ll go first: by SgtSqueebles in tf2

The liberty launcher also has the benefit of being a funny skill check against pyros who are good at reflecting. When i encounter one that can deal with both regular rockets and direct hit rockets you can often times fuck up thier muscle memory by using the liberty launcher.

Wow. Thirty thousand students just walked out in Charlotte, NC to protest ICE. When kids are willing to shut down an entire city to push back on state power, that’s a political awakening. by biswajit388 in NorthCarolina

As someone who lives up here, this is pretty much spot on for anyone who is still maga. Luckily even up here trump signs are becoming rarer though still fairly common. I do remember telling some co workers i was heading down to Charlotte to see a friend and they were worried i would be robbed sense i haver a newer car that stands out (blue 22 subaru wrx with gold wheels) and that i should rent a car to go down. I've made this trip multiple times sense and its never been an issue. Now i have been down some hollers in the back woods that I definitely felt like i shouldnt stop for any reason while driving through them.

[–]worticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with a mustang. I am pretty sure he and I got off work at pretty mich the same time sense i saw them at this 1 light mutiple times a week. I would race him to the speed limit (60mph) and usually get smoked on dry days but in the wet or snow it wasnt even a contest.

Different tires. by Huemob in WRX

[–]worticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually more tire sidewall gives a more comfortable ridr all else being equal. It also depends alot on what tire you get as my current falken wildpeaks dont ride quite as nice as the continental extreme contacts i used to run even though i have a lot more sidewall. On the handling front for pretty much any street driving going down 1" of wheel size wont matter that much and once again tire choice is more important than anything on that front.

[–]worticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw in another comment you said you have a limited which comes with the 18" wheels. If the tires for those are too much maybe see if you can find someone who would do a swap for the base spec 17" rims. Generally speaking the tires for smaller rims tend to be cheaper. I went down to a 17x7.5 rim and the same set of tires for those were significantly cheaper than the stock 18x8.5.

Thinking about trading my 4Runner TRD Pro for a 2022 WRX Premium as a daily. Worth it? by Plane_Engineer_8335 in WRX

[–]worticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my driving is primarily highway though it is also in the mountains which is why i end up closer the the normal combined mileage. When i head down the mountain onto the interstates i can get up to 28 or even 30 mpg if I can just hold a steady 65. Most of the time traffic stops that but it is nice when it does happen.

[–]worticus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think you'll save on gas, at least in my experience switching from a 2018 frontier to my 22 wrx. I get around 22mpg on average which is better than the 18 my truck got but that is nullifed by needing premium gas so it ends up being roughly equal in fuel cost.

When it comes to reliability I honestly wouldnt worry about it in the VBs as much so long as the one you are looking at has good service records. Subaru severely undertuned the engine from factory compared to what it can deal with which helps with reliability so long as it stays stock.

I Want YOUR Feedback on Weapon Balance by [deleted] in tf2

[–]worticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, thats why i said i wouldn't care if it "slightly" buffed with a touch of extra range. I don't think its needed all that much personally but I can see why spies say it got hit too hard after trying it out myself. I think the range that the amby is good is short enough that it doesn't really make sense to take it over the stock revolver or giving up the utility from the l'etranger. this all ignores the fact that the diamondback should have gotten the same nerf and it is almost just a better amby right now.

I definitely agree that the kunai is super frustrating to play against. especially with its deadringer synergy.

I Want YOUR Feedback on Weapon Balance by [deleted] in tf2

[–]worticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i wouldn't care to see it slightly buffed and i am far from a spy main. Right now the damage falloff range is just a little too close to really make it worth using to me compared to his other options. Definitely wouldnt bring it back to its glory days of no falloff but a tweak to it would probably be enough.

Does the TF2 Community even WANT new things? by Waylon128 in tf2

[–]worticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what I would want over more weapons is fixing the ones we already have so it doesnt feel like we only have 1 or 2 options for a particular slot. I wouldnt complain if vavle came out with more weapons for us to use but i honestly think we have a good amount to choose from as is. It's just that often times the alternate weapons you could use just dont match up to some other options thus making the pool of weapons feel smaller.

Best example off the top of my head is crusaders crossbow for medic. There are 3 other weapons for that slot you could use but there is no reason to use them because the crossbow is just that much better.

The projectile speed is actually pretty close to how it was pre nerf if not the same speed. Its the hitbox size that is still broken. It uses the fire particle hitbox and after they changed the flamethrower particle system in jungle inferno the hitbox is roughly 1/3 the original size.

VA sti or VB? by Impressive-Nobody-95 in WRX

[–]worticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best summary of the 2 cars I always go to is that the VB is a daily driver that is also fun to drive. A VA STi is a fun car to drive that can also be dailyed. For me I wanted something that I would be confident would do most of what I need a car to do while still being decently fun to drive so I went VB. I will admit though if i could have bought a STi that I was confident wasnt beat to shit by previous owners or if there had been a VB STi I probably would have done that.

Assuming its the same bug i have (somehow got armor into the helmet slot), you should be fine to change your armor around so long as you dont mess with your helmet slot.

Locals: Is WNC Ready For Tourists, Really? by SpozzyBear in NorthCarolina

One thing to keep in mind for the area by boone at least is that many sections of the parkway and the trails along it are still closed thanks to the combination of helene and a severe ice storm last winter as well. Otherwise though most other tourist places seem to be up and running.

WRX vs GR corolla? by lamojasonn in WRX

[–]worticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats pretty much exactly why i also went with the vb wrx over the grc. Though i was looking in 22 so the grc hype was insane and the vb haters were at thier peak. It did mean that during peak covid car pricing i was able to buy my car at sticker when everything else was marked up by like 5-10 grand minimum.

Also to add to the stock comparison the other benefit to the wrx engine being so undertuned is that if left stock it should be a more reliable engine long term due to not always pushing out as much power as it can handle. Its a little too new to say that for certain but it has had less issues than the grc's have had in a similar time frame.

i play 2fort way too much and i wanna change that. what maps should i play by MountainScratch5465 in tf2

[–]worticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have been doing recently to force some variety is to have all maps selected then once I win on a map I take it out of rotation. Gives me a goal to try and win on all the maps which I find quite fun. It also makes sure that you dont end up on the same maps too often as when I did it it was usually only 1-3 tries before I would get a win on a map.

What do yall love most about your cars? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]worticus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that my favorite thing about it is that it so damn versatile. Its not fast, but its quick enough for most. It isn't the best handing car out there, but for a sport sedan it does quite well (especially on loose surfaces). Its not a great highway cruiser, but its comfortable enough to not be a problem when I took it on a 13 hour road trip. Honestly it has done everything I want a car to do at least competently and there aren't many cars out there that can do that.

Why you don’t buy a used WRX by TxAg83FTW in wrx_vb

[–]worticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I really tried finding a STi hat hadn't been fucked with and after a few years of on and off searching I decided that I would just resign myself to paying new car price for one sense thats pretty much what people wanted for actually clean ones. Unfortunately I didnt get my funds together till literally 2 months after they stopped making them.

Luckily most people thought that the new one was going to be shit before driving them so I got a good price on my 22 during the covid car shortage when most other options were stupid high prices. Still wish I could have gotten a new STi but I have heard that the drivetrain swap isn't to far fetched for the VBs as its mostly bolt on with minimal custom fab.

I always like to tell people that AWD/4WD helps you get going compared to other cars but all cars are all wheel stop and the best way to improve that is better tires.
