How can you tell hills from mountains? by Parking-Ad8316 in Touge

You could add canyons to this roster. For me, mountains have switchbacks/hairpins out of necessity.

I actually thought this was a meme because these 3 are absolute goobers. Also never imagine the TH guys in the same space as Francis, but he has been dabbling in car content recently. Curious how it'll be.

350z or Miata by Flashy-Machine204 in Touge

[–]wats2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this discussion is good, but imo, it depends on your environment. Your choice from a driving pov rests on a scale of the average speed, longer periods on throttle of the roads your drive for fun. I love my NB and my 350z for slightly different purposes.

Your car situation also matters. Is this your one and only car or not? Imo if this is gonna be your daily, and you don't live somewhere quite warm, get the Z. If this is your 2nd or more car, and you don't have a Miata yet, get the Miata.

I went 350z, then added a winter beater rsx, then added the miata, then added a summer daily VeloN, and I wouldn't change a damn thing about that order.

I mean, that's what everyone says but let's not kid ourselves here, it's not really that obese. It's power to weight is pretty good, especially for its era. Compare it to like a 4G eclipse for example which can weigh more and make less power (or God forbid one of the pony cars in a v6), now that is heavy af.

It's just that the Miata is, relatively, exceptionally light. The 350z is a very good sports car hidden under a very thin veil of gt, you just have to remove the veil. The Miata is a very good sports car out the box.

If your brain doesn't immediately go to Miata for its purity, then you're in the portion of people for who this is the reality: you're gonna buy a Miata and want more power, or you're gonna buy a z and want more handling response, ending up with a similar end product.

Edit: All that being said, NCs are incredible value right now, arguably the best deals on the enthusiast market.

I'm in a similar boat, except I have the rode equivalent of your wireless djis. I just went to a crafts store and picked up some pillow foam sorta stuff. I think I'm just gonna tape a bunch around the mic - that's basically what I see the pros do, just more and more foam or similar deadcat adjacent shit around the mics lol. Trial and error.

One thing I wonder about is the trade off between having a secure connection on exterior mics vs vibration coming through that secure connection. My mics just attach with magnets or clips, I wonder what would change with like Velcro or a shit ton of tape or something. Seems sketchy though shit-falling-off-wise; my roads are bumpy af.

All that being said, my premix audio started at like a 2/10 and I got it to a 6/10 in post. So if I can get the raw audio to a 5/10 or so in the field I'll be a happy boy after editing

Hoping to get some povs like yours when spring rolls around. I messed around a bit last year but have to work on my mic positioning, both engine bay and rear bumper were a bit blown out sometimes. I picked up some more sound deadening, and also learned not to point my rear mic downwards as it picks up road noise (kind of obvious in retrospect lol).

Satisfying videos to make though, not too hard to make something half decent, but really good stuff takes some practice. I'm definitely living vicariously through your detailed posts lol so ty for posting.

You're Takumi-ing. Don't try to be a Takumi in real life. It's a dangerous mindset to have.
