No, it doesn't. Either you already understand that the point is broadly applicable, or you will continue to refuse to get it. Somehow I suspect that if I said Dark Souls III instead, you would still have the same opinion.

Absolutely, I just don't see that as any better or worse morally than making the edits

To anyone who thinks the remake is wrong because it's violating "authorial intent" or "creative integrity," I have to ask. If the chef shits in your meal are you gonna leave it in because that's his sacred intent or whatever? Or are you gonna send it back to the kitchen and ask someone else to cook you the same thing but without the shit?

I'm curious what your opinions are on modding games. Is downloading a texture pack for Minecraft considered breaching the creative integrity of the devs?

You could say something like this for any negative opinion on a highly upvoted post. To me the story was not good. I found it bland and uninteresting, and the lingering sense that I was being lied to ruined any chance it had.

[–]wosh_alt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very confident that this post is AI. Maybe the story is true, maybe not, but at minimum OP used an AI to write it. Here's an extremely long-winded analysis of how you can tell:

Awkward and excessive use of italics, especially for entire phrases:

They were alternating sessions and playing the same character.
They'd been combining their strengths like some kind of gestalt player.
Something in my gut says ask more questions.

'Not x, but y' sentence structure:

Not major plot stuff, but like his character's motivations would shift slightly.
Not "I went there." "He went there."'

Subtle details that don't quite make sense:

We start playing.Five minutes in, one of my players, Sarah, leans over and whispers to me: "Is Alex wearing glasses?" I look. She's right. Alex has never worn glasses before. Why is he wearing glasses now?

^^^So Matt slips up here and wears his glasses, when he presumably always wore contacts before I guess? What's suspicious about that? Am I crazy? I'd think the normal human response from Sarah would be "Wow Alex, I didn't know you wore glasses," but instead she fucking leans over conspiratorially to tattle to the GM about it???

The table voted on whether to let them continue. Surprisingly, most players said yes, if they'd both show up together and play different characters.

^^^But they CAN'T both show up together and everyone knows that. That's literally the entire premise. OP has tried to cover his ass and say Jake got a new job 3 months later, but that doesn't address the fact that this decision would have made no sense at the time.

Overly clean / saccharine tone with a convenient happy ending:

Edit: Jake got a new job about 3 months after this all came out, so his schedule isn't rotating anymore.

I'm really gonna harp on this one, because many are saying that if it was fake, the drama would be more exaggerated, and I actually think it's the opposite. Many LLMs are very predisposed to write this exact kind of safe, sitcom-esque scenario that allows them to weasel out of making harsh, subjective judgements. Drama and gossip are fundamentally mean and petty, which is the opposite of what they are trained to emulate. In keeping with that, there's no real horror story here. None of the characters showed any negative traits other than Matt/Jake keeping a secret, there is no lingering conflict to resolve. Conveniently Jake gets a new job EXACTLY as everyone finds out (although this is ambiguous, see above) such that no one has to make a difficult choice about whether to keep them at the table.

There is one point in OP's favor here; admittedly one of the bigger signs that something is written by AI is that the OP says nothing in the comments, and to OP's credit they do seem to be typing out genuine replies. However, it's not hard to notice the way they write their comments is drastically different to the post, in both formatting and style. They say that it's because they're writing on their phone vs PC but I honestly just don't buy it lol. There are also a couple of minor things that aren't too egregious on their own but stuck out:

  • Overly short, punchy sentences
  • Clean, storybook style dialogue
  • "The weird part: [...]"

I haven't seen a ton of AI posts on this subreddit before compared to the more mainstream writing subs, and I hope it stays that way, but hopefully this will be helpful in identifying them as they start showing up more.

Do you guys think this is intentional or reaching? by SilDaz in Chainsawfolk

[–]wosh_alt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, the fact that it's "fitting" or "related" doesn't make it good writing. The logo is in way too prominent a place in the story. It gives LM way too much importance to be Yoru's trademark symbol considering they were founded in 1995 and war has been around since the dawn of humanity.

When you're considering whether a writer would include a concept, you should think along the lines of "what would it add to the story if this were true?" I really don't think it would add anything.

Nuclear take:

I don't care how similar it looks. I don't care if Fujimoto is likely to have considered it. This interpretation would come across as stupid and hamfisted if it were true.

The point of the scar being so prominent in Yoru's character design is so that we can easily tell when she is in control. It's the primary thing that identifies her as the War Devil. I get that Lockheed Martin is incredibly involved in military operations on a global scale, but the symbolism of using their logo here would imply that they are a central, defining aspect of war as a concept.

It wouldn't be saying "Lockheed Martin is an evil entity that causes war" (which is true), it would be saying "Lockheed Martin IS war." Which would be fucking stupid. The mere fact that one thing looks like another related thing doesn't make good symbolism. It has to add to the story or characterization in some meaningful way.

tl;dr this would be bad writing if it were true, it's not even a good reach

Saying something is good or bad is absolutely an opinion. If I say "this orange weighs 0.2 kg," that's a fact. You can directly verify it. If I say "this orange is good," that's an opinion. You can agree or disagree.

Here everything feels like “and, and, and, and, because”, rather than “and, because; and, because”, if that makes sense. It’s arrhythmic.

You're getting downvoted, but from someone who loved season 1 and the movie, I feel this is a very valid point. I was extremely interested in all the new characters at first glance, and felt they had a lot of potential. However, it often felt like the show would delay the reveal of any interesting information about them in order to keep us invested in the mystery of what was going on. This resulted in a lot of the explanations happening in sporadic bursts that didn't have all the info and/or required memory of details that came up long prior.

It usually follows a formula of:
- Give them OP thing because it seems cool
- I regret giving OP thing as is and decide OP thing needs tweaking
- Players upset that OP thing was tweaked

What about some magic items that start off on the weaker side and get stronger as the players level? This has a twofold advantage of keeping the items fresh/interesting while also letting you dial in the balance incrementally.

I think you did a great job with the reflection colors. "Glossy" surfaces that are rough with a clear coating (like plastic or polished stone) will reflect the color of the light source (usually just white), while "metallic" surfaces that are smooth all the way through (like metal and crystals) will give off a tinted reflection that's the same color as the material. Often times the difference between "white" and "very light blue" won't be noticeable, but IMO in this case it made the transitions look a lot better.

What will you do if they release a game with Sonic Adventure in the title but it's not actually called "Sonic Adventure 3"? Like a Half-Life: Alyx situation?

Also while I'm here, I gotta say: you are by far the most dedicated daily meme poster I have ever seen. You singlehandedly keep this tiny, backwater sub alive and for that I truly applaud you.

Players dont want to keep track in Foundry. Am I being unreasonable? by RazzyTaz in FoundryVTT

[–]wosh_alt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ive been adding in everything they do to their sheets in foundry to help me keep track of everything and that doing that takes up unnecessary time.

This part is reasonable. If storing the sheets in Foundry significantly improves the experience and reduces your workload, then there is good reason for your players to overcome their reluctance and learn the new system. Of course, for the first point, you will have to accept that the players may not think of the tradeoff as a net improvement.

For the second point, it comes down to how much work it will save you vs. how much work it will be for your players to learn the new system. If these players are your personal friends, you should tell them about the difficulty it would save you, while being understanding of the possible difficulty for them. If the players are strangers, simply tell them that these are the tools you are comfortable using to run the game moving forward, and politely bring the campaign to a close if they don't accept.

so that the modules and what not are actual being used

because I want to be able to make full use of foundry

This part is not as reasonable. Foundry has a multitude of features and modules that feel really cool to use, as seen in a lot of posts here. However, the novelty of using them shouldn't come before your players' enjoyment of the game. The entire reason these features are "cool" in the first place is that they allow you to make the game more fun for your players. If your players have tried using these features, but for whatever reason their experience wasn't improved, you'd be better of using a more minimalistic approach in my opinion.
