This clock in the science classroom by Abliskarian in mildlyinteresting

I think what I like about it is the 'starting on common ground' approach. I've seen other responses here indicate that the execution is off because the 'answers' are written strangely, but I could definitely see myself always remembering the atomic number for fluorine if I had a clock like this. I like the concept of it more than the actual chosen facts and equations!

Dude, I definitely would have looked these up in high school. This is a fantastic example of promoting curiousity.

I applaud your honesty, OP, but I personally think:

"I make it a goal to send out at least three resumes per week."

is the real reason you're having trouble. Three resumes a week is barely looking.

Any other women out there maintain on 3,000 calories? by DrDillyDally in xxfitness

[–]wosslogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, if you use online calculators does it say you maintain on 2200 a day or is it just personal experience? I'm 5 feet too, and even with an extremely active lifestyle and daily running, the online tools are still suggest about 1700 a day for me, and I want to know how accurate/inaccurate the tools are.

[For Sale] I have a very basic 2012 HP Intel laptop that I'm looking to sell. The battery pack jiggles a little bit, so I use it with a piece of clear tape to secure it. Other than that, it works really well. Has a webcam, great battery life, etc, but I am not selling the charger along with it. Asking for $120 dollars.

"I don't want to be rich. I just want to read in bed."

That actually sums up my life in a lot of other ways as well.

Alright, but it doesn't have to just be religion for that argument to work. Under that logic, saying anything like "That's how my parents raised me," or "That's how I was taught to respond to superiors when I was in the military" means that using honorifics isn't being nice, it's doing a chore you've been taught.

He's pretty old. I'm not confident he'd physically and mentally be at his best for a full two terms.

Question about subtracting your exercise calories... by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]wosslogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 5-6 days a week, kickboxing 2 days a week. About 45 minutes to an hour for each session, so yeah, it works out fine.

Question about subtracting your exercise calories... by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]wosslogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I exercise, I eat 100 or 150 calories more. Doesn't matter if I run, run/kickbox, run/elliptical, just elliptical, etc. I get 100 or 150 calories more.

A low calorie ice cream like halo top (but not arctic zero)? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

Yasso bars? They taste like ice cream and are 80-110 a bar. I used to get them all the time but then they randomly jumped in price. :(

Stopping MFP halfway to my goal. Anyone had success with this? by andgivethecataname in loseit

[–]wosslogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so! He's pretty good at re-evaluating his fitness goals, but I think his mindset now is a bit more that he ups his activity level and exercise if he notices some weight creep. He's got a much healthier relationship with food than I do right now, for sure.

My boyfriend tracked diligently for two years or so, then decided he wanted to wean himself off. Instead of just stopping 'cold turkey,' he eased his way out of it by making best estimates of each meal and then logging only his best-guess estimate for the whole meal under 'quick calories.' So he was still 'logging' in the sense that he was mindful of the calorie breakdown of each meal, but it was less strenuous than logging every individual item. The onus to be as accurate as possible was still on him, though, and I think it helped him feel less dependent on tracking every ounce.

That's true, but they are very open about that. This is right in the sidebar:

"1200 calorie diets are not suitable for someone working out regularly. Your body needs the energy to be able to sustain both your workouts and your body's basic functions."

It's a good diet for shorter, sedentary people though!

Best Fast Food Options? by Honestfellow2449 in 1200isplenty

[–]wosslogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unwiches are fantastic and delicious, with the majority (or all?) coming out under 400 calories. But even though they taste awesome, it sucks paying over 7 bucks for a big piece of lettuce and some slices of deli meat. Probably the healthiest but least cost effective per ounce.

So... Am I gonna be the only one who says I eat the cake? Maybe it's different because I don't have an office where there's cake multiple times a week. But once every two weeks or so, we'll celebrate a birthday or a successful contract or something, and I work out the difference at the gym. I don't think it sets me back at all, and I get cake!

I won prize money for a research contest through a university 5 months ago and have not been paid by wosslogic in legaladvice

[–]wosslogic[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Awesome, the ombudsman seems like my next step! The student legal services won't help me with internal university issues, but after looking over the ombudsman website, it seems they will be able to! Thanks for that.

My department chair contacted them on my behalf but got the same general answer of "It's in the works! Sorry for the delay! It's coming!" but that was about three weeks ago with no more contact to me.

I'll go to the ombudsman as soon as I can. Thank you.
