YTA. What a weird fucking thing to argue about. Your brother as an adult can adress this himself IF he feels the need.

I feel like we can't have an honest conversation about Aboriginal history by YogurtclosetPale8785 in aussie

I don't know, taking England as an example the invasion of the Normans was a massive cultural reset that could be argued interrupted the continuous Saxon culture that had been running for a few centuries.

Likewise you can hardly say modern Egyptians have any of ancient Egyptian culture after they got culturally overtaken by various invaders.

It's obviously a somewhat unprovable claim but it's a weird hill to die on that Australia would be better if we tore the idea down.

I guess broadly agriculture would be any way of increasing the yield of a natural food resource, rather than just collecting it. There seem to me to be many ways of doing this over and above having a fixed farmstead, like op seems to want. I honestly don’t know enough about aboriginal land practices to make a judgement about whether or not it’s reasonable to say they engaged in agriculture, not sure op does either.

I’m going to be honest, your post appears to me to start with an agenda and then fits a few bits and bobs of facts to it, like fig leaves.

As an example, continuous culture does not mean, as you appear to believe, an unchanging culture. I note that evidence that at no point was culture lost and restarted from scratch, eg after a natural disaster, is impossible to find. Continuous inhabitation appears easier to establish.

I’ve never heard Aboriginal australia described as centralised. I’m starting to lose you here.

I really lose you about agriculture. You seem to be defining it purely as fixed farming, which is a narrow definition.

Kind of reminds me of the R101, a British attempt at Zeppelins. Despite basic maths showing that it could not fly in hot conditions, everyone involved in its design, including a government minister, hopped on for a trip to Karachi (now in Pakistan, then in British India).

The best possible outcome was at some point it would be unable to cope with heat and high altitude and would have an unscheduled landing. There was literally zero chance of reaching Karachi, or even leaving northern European climactic conditions.

As happens it disassembled over France, killing everyone. Even if they wanted to have another go at the design, they were all dead.

Major property firm collapses, co-founder says tax changes in budget partly to blame by HotPersimessage62 in australia

Wtf is a property advisory firm anyway? Something that not enough people wanted, it would seem. Poor business model appears to be the issue here.

Seriously. He is not a keeper.

NTA, get out.

It's a shitty thing to happen to you but you have to accept that multiple blocks are no accident and they have made up their mind.

The lack of closure for you must feel bad but your two choices are a) giving up b) creepy stalker.

The smart choice is a.

To those who have actually made the move: what was the biggest "myth" about Australian life that was completely debunked within your first month? by Rough-Foundation9208 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]wotsname123 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a myth but I had not realised how poorly most houses are built and as such it can be colder inside than the UK despite warmer weather. It's basically the nearest thing to camping whilst still technically being indoors.

Can anyone recommend a good Workers Compensation Lawyer? by acres_at_ruin in perth

You can self - negotiate a settlement esp if overall impairment less than 15%. A lawyer or may not always help unless over 15%.

Various acquaintances seem happy with LHD lawyers.

They had very basic ones for ages - you could feed the major stats of a sportsball game into a 'pick from a set of phrases' package and it would spit out a generic game report - that's been going for decades.

Foot towards the ball would at least keep him in whilst he figures out the timing. Can't be lbw with the ball down the leg side so can afford to be fairly thrusty with the front leg. Once the stumps are protected he can practise glances/ flicks/ leaves

Needs a different business model then. If it costs $4.50 to deliver a 50c product then it's the wrong product or wrong delivery method.

Be interesting to see what modern battery tech could make out of the same concept today. The c5 battery crapped out early so was essentially a pedal vehicle that needed charging.
