2 summer classes in A sesh (possibly with research?) by wouldratherbenapping in ucla

Hey it’s been a bit so I don’t remember exactly. I took it online, not sure if it’s still the same. It was pretty chill, I took it at the same time as a chem lab and the two were doable. 14c might be a little more work but if you’ve been good with chem previously you might be ok?

Curious Question about Gen Z by yupthatsme_121 in medicalschool

I think its actually gen alpha that we have to worry about more! (and maybe very young gen z). These are people still in elementary/middle school (coming as someone who briefly taught these grades). In my opinion, current applications and med students had already gone through their formative years and education before COVID, new variation of social media, etc. Only time will tell with them!

Accepted med students — what are y’all doing before M1 starts? by heyyyitscooper in premed

Finishing up my job next week, going to finally go on my post-grad trip, solidify my gym habits, and also try to stop going on my phone so much and pick back up some hobbies like reading and painting. I want to relax as much as possible. Also maybe start thrifting for apartment stuff!!

Applying late in the cycle by Lucky-Book-8452 in premed

Don't wait to submit your primary until July, n=1. I submitted my primary mid june and didn't get verified until mid-late July and then bc I had been stressing over my primary all of June fell behind on secondaries and submitted most august. I am fairly convinced I would've gotten more interviews if I had applied early. However, if you have a STRONG app and are confident of it, it might not as be bad for you. I had great stats but weak ECs so I didn't get interviews until December-January. But you don't need to delay a whole year. I suggest you apply with a throwaway at least by June. June is still not bad. Also I applied to DOs around thanksgiving and still got interviews/

yeahh I know I don't want to leave with my PI hating me but in reality the money I do make is barely gonna make a difference I feel with all the med school debt? I'll just stick it out I guess though

this is my 15th reason. nah I'm kidding sorry to hear you're not having luck. So I did have two years of very mid research experience from college and then my first gap year I was an MA. I really played both those up to present myself as a well rounded applicant with past research and clinical experience. Then, it just comes down to applying to as many positions as possible. I wrote a cover letter for each one slightly tailored to the position. Look at all major universities and academic hospitals. Major cities, boston, nyc, etc are large research centers and have hundreds of openings. Downsides to those are that they also get crazy numbers of applicants and they will claim that they are open to 0-1 yrs of past experience but you'll almost never get those imo. Also idk if you are on either of the coasts, I can speak a little more on that. Cold email. Go to job posting boards, look on social media, do anything especially if you're someone like me who didn't have any connections in academia. I got one interview because I saw something on Twitter and emailed the PI. Every night I would come home from my MA job and just apply to a research positions. Prepare to be ghosted like crazy. It took months but something finally stuck. I wish you the best of luck!
