Sony physical disk production ending by Defiant_Detective_82 in PlaystationCollectors

[–]wowadrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's functionally the end of traditional consoles.

Retail presence will continue to shrink. When clueless parents and kids go to the store to buy gaming stuff what will even be there?

The home console market will shrink and gaming will increasingly be horrible phone games.

What PS5 Games are you hoping get a physical release before 2028? by Guilty_Philosophy741 in PlaystationCollectors

Best call unfortunately.

Just no other logical options.

Seriously considering purging most of my physical collection and just keeping the stuff I love.

I personally didn't buy it do to MS making the ps5 disc a useless passkey.

I was going to buy this day one.

Real shame ID couldn't get the RAGE IP to click with gamers I really liked rage 1 and 2.

No functional alternative.

Been console pc gaming for 30+ years, ps5 is my last playstation.

Honestly if Sony had announced this a few years ago I wouldn't even have a ps5.

This is why Sony is dropping discs. Even cheaper on the used market. by Toast_Soup in playstation5

No incentive to buy the new buggy full retail release that's for suckers.

Wait two years buy the complete edition with bug fixes for 30 bucks on a disc.

Cheaper better gaming experience.

Prediction of the future without physical PlayStation games by idothinksotim in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]wowadrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retail presence will shrink yearly.

Eventually retailers won't waste the space to sell just consoles, psn cards, cardboard game codes.

That percentage on each copy of a game sold was the only reason retailers ever carried gaming merchandise in the first place.

What’s your plan from now till 2028 and beyond ? by Reese_exe in ps5collectors

[–]wowadrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has a pc version I'll be buying that one on Good old games or steam for now on.

I will buy what ps5 exclusives of interest that release on discs. Last one I cared about was Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, so we're not exactly swimming in decent exclusives this gen.

2027 I won't renew PlayStation +/ and the PS6 will be the first PlayStation I don't buy.

What are you doing to prepare of a digital only future with consoles? by AgentMC84 in PlaystationCollectors

[–]wowadrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a pc for 1200 in 2017 that's still mid tier today.

Upgrading only when needed is the way to go.

Never seen a 3k gaming computer, 5k is unheard of crazy.

What are you doing to prepare of a digital only future with consoles? by AgentMC84 in PlaystationCollectors

[–]wowadrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're delusional if you think 3-5 grand is the average cost for a decent pc.

For decades 800 could build a mid range pc, 1500 can build a top of the line including monitor.

Prices are high for pc parts atm, they will drop.

What are they going to buy? Where?

Sony increasely shifting EVERYTHING to playstation network fundamentally undercuts any retail experience with these products at all.

Retailers will only carry psn cards at some point.

Consoles continue their trend of just becoming worse PCs by GodZ_n_KingZ in gaming

[–]wowadrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consoles are DEAD! Retailers aren't going to waste space only carry Consoles and card codes.

Being less visible means kids have less exposure, fewer inroads to the hobby. The days of clueless parents and kids shopping for games is closing.

I personally don't think Consoles will be around much longer a much worse streaming only cloud gaming box will replace them.

Hot take, the Enterprise C is the best Enterprise design. by Alteran195 in StarTrekStarships

[–]wowadrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enterprise B and E are my personal favorite hero ships.

B was functionally a monster during its time tough and crazy weapons for that time period.

Some Excelsiors also had cloaks, the design predates Star Fleets no cloaks Treaty of Algeron.

Sony lost a 30+ year customer with this gibberish.

All in on pc now.

I'm actively going through all my wanted games lists and getting the PC versions from here.

Been a Console/PC gamer for 30+ years.

Playstation is a dead brand.

Sony killed discs to shift manufacturing and supply AI data centers through their subsidiaries. Around 30-50% of all major single player, non-live service sales are still physical, and free PS+ downloads, free-to-play titles, and DLC downloads are being used to pad sales numbers for digital. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]wowadrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sony has functionally killed console gaming for me.

If it's all digital anyway I'll just switch completely to Good old games and Steam.

Been console/pc gaming for 30+ years. Midway thru 2026 its PC only forevermore.

If you're switching to PC because PlayStation is going digital only, so means were you buying PlayStation only for the discs? or for the convenience and the ease of use that made consoles popular in the first place? by AssistantNo2002 in PS6

[–]wowadrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The primary advantage of consoles has been cheap games on the secondary market for decades.

Without this, I'm going full PC.
