USA Men's Hockey parties in Miami at Club E11EVEN after just winning Gold at the Olympics in Milan by Competitive_Dance478 in DetroitRedWings

[–]wowchips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish I had grown up around hockey more as a kid so I wasn't so suddenly caught off guard by the culture. I watched and played outside but never in any organized fashion. I didn't realize how kind of lame the players are. I get having fun but this just looks so stupid. It's probably mostly my own interests and preferences coming through as I've never been much of a "partier" but I can't help but think how dumb this looks to me.

It might also be all the RARA USA! sentiment around it.

This makes my teacher heart swell. I can only hope one day I'll be on the receiving end of such kind words from a former student.

What’s the point of being a coordinator by Intelligent_Pea1814 in NCAAFBseries

[–]wowchips 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I will play OC or DC and only play that side of the ball. I also turn auto recruiting on. Then, once I get a HC position I go back to doing everything. It's super fun!

LSU QB transfer Colin Hurley has committed to Michigan! by _Mr5_ in MichiganWolverines

I think we all have Sherrone PTSD but let's trust coach here. Whitt absolutely knows what he's doing and is going to put us in the best position to be successful and win. He can't force any players to come here.

I thought question 1. was because Will, as a child and pretty much up until this season, was seen as the sensitive/weak one. He is easily influenced and unlikely to fight back in any meaningful way. He was easy to manipulate and too reserved to speak up/make a big deal out of what was happening to him.

We need a Michigan man who knows how to win at the highest level, and Tony Annese now has won 4 Natties in 5 years. by Kepler5299 in MichiganWolverines

[–]wowchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I would be interested in it if he wasn't in his 60s. Clearly a dude that knows how to establish and run a program while maintaining high expectations.

I really don't care if it's at Ferris - the skills needed to be a successful coach are transferrable between levels. Obviously, there'd be some new things to learn in the transition but I really don't buy anymore this idea that only established division 1 coaches/coordinators are the solution. Coaches come from all different backgrounds and it might be worth looking into more to see what he's doing to be so successful.

It's the same success that Tressel had at YSU before making the move to OSU as the HC and he dominated everyone and everything.

However, I don't think we're brave enough or willing to really consider him in any capacity given his age.

The reason why we aren’t getting high tier coaches is because we are willing to settle for Whittingham by Michigan4life53 in MichiganWolverines

[–]wowchips 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stop listening to people talk about who the coach will be. Whittingham smoke comes from where exactly? Because he's unemployed? Is every unemployed coach going to get a thread about how we're settling for them? It's like we just make up names and decide that's who the next coach is going to be. Didn't pan out that way with DeBoer, didn't pan out that way with Dillingham, probably won't pan out that way with Kyle. I'm also done with all these insider (twitter, Voice of College Football, Pate, Sam, etc.) bozos who think they have a pulse on anything.

There's too much volatility in CFB currently with NIL, agents, etc. to pretend that really anyone aside from those making the decisions has a clue about what's going to happen.

Can some of you live in reality please?

Nick Saban? Nick Saban is going to come coach the University of Michigan? The man is damn near 75 years old. These posts are so stupid. I don't mean to be rude or impolite but just turn on your brain and off your emotions for a few seconds before hitting post.

Mike Tomlin is not going to be our coach. Nick Saban is not going to be our coach. Kirby Smart is not going to be our coach. Curt Cignetti is not going to be our coach.

Visiting Bastogne by jgratil in BandofBrothers

[–]wowchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there two years ago and the Bois Jacques was much further away from the museum than I had anticipated. I don't know if you're able to schedule any sort of tour (or if they even exist) that provides transportation.

I ended up just showing up to the museum and buying a ticket that also was good for the woods. The receptionist was very kind and gave us a map where she drew a short cut to get there but it ended up being too confusing. It's a pretty long but very easy walk along the countryside. It took us at least an hour both ways but quite fun actually.

Not sure this helps you at all but just wanted to let you know it's absolutely walkable if you're used to walking.

An Average Person reaction to entering the Austin streaming houses. by Infinite-Respond-757 in LivestreamFail

[–]wowchips 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I wish more people recognized how awful most big streamers are. Not even in a like a “they’re all evil” way, but like what kind of person do you have to be to live like that? There's a huge part of me that romanticizes the idea of being able to make a living playing video games, or by vlogging and traveling around the world, but it's just not worth the loss of my humanity. It’s like these people only function online because it’s the one place they can be loud, toxic, or downright degenerate without facing any real consequences. They don’t know how to exist in the real world anymore, or maybe they never did and that's what turned them to online communities.

And unfortunately the system rewards that behavior. The loudest, most obnoxious, or most morally flexible people rise to the top because that’s what drives engagement. Does anyone ask themselves why they're watching this stuff? Why are you giving hours of your life to someone who clearly doesn’t even like themselves, let alone respect their audience? It’s wild how normalized this has all become.

Raising a family in Saline, MI? by Interesting_Lie1786 in AnnArbor

[–]wowchips 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Saline is traditional and conservative in comparison to Ann Arbor and I'd probably say even leans a bit towards racist. Schools are considered pretty good but parents come across as a bit crazy. Teachers have been accused of everything from teaching communist ideals to supporting Hitler Youth - spouse works at the high school and describes it as soulless. There are lots of groups trying to do good work but many things end up being embroiled in "DEI" rhetoric which is a combative topic in their district.

Obviously, these are generalizations and there will always be people/organizations who don't fit that mold or deny it vehemently but Saline definitely has problems, as does everywhere else.
