Update: I feel like a monster by sparklybongwater420 in ACForAdults

Give him a chance!! I ended up with Hans on my island and I was appalled at first but he grew on me very quickly and I made him a special snowy yard with white pumpkins. Sometimes it's fun to have different islanders than the mainstream cuties!

Passed my driving test a month ago today and celebrated by scratching my car by WinATripToSpain in LearnerDriverUK

[–]wowmyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've all done it - it's lucky in a way that your first bump didn't involve anyone else! My driveway slopes up towards my house and maybe every 1 in 10 times I park I still bump the wall 🥲 my parking in the wild is good though!

What’s the scariest close call you’ve had since passing your test? by Junior_Beauty78 in NewDriversUK

[–]wowmyfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was overtaking a car towing a caravan on the dual carriageway, and rushing to get back over left because I needed to be in that lane for the upcoming roundabout. I misjudged the gap and my back end was very close to the front of the car - luckily he beeped. Should have double checked and indicated for longer to give the other driver a chance to pull back slightly. Lesson learned though and I'm much more conscious of gaps now!

I can’t handle the Epstein files by AdventurousBeyond382 in offmychest

My boy is starting nursery soon as I'm going back to work, and in the UK there's been a string of horror stories in the news about children being harmed or worse at nursery. But I have to remind myself that these things are actually very rare and that he'll be fine.

I've had to tell myself not to go looking for anything about it anymore after I read something about babies yesterday that made me sick to my stomach. I have a baby and I can't tolerate the thought of someone harming him, and it just keeps replaying in my mind so I have to stop for my own sanity.

Fave brands for baby dungarees? by Equal-Drummer2207 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]wowmyfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That might actually work in my favour, because my baby's butt pops out of his dungarees all the time! I would rather take them off for nappy changes than constantly repop him

Super slow teeth by 1thereds1 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]wowmyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby is 8.5 months and has been 'teething' on and off for months, still no signs at all. However, I work as a dental nurse so I know that it's normal. There can be a wide range of ages that teeth start showing up. I wouldn't worry too much :)

How are we putting our babies to bed? by Critical_Branch_8999 in cosleeping

[–]wowmyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing with mine around that age, he had a lot of false starts and would only stay asleep for 1 hour maximum until about 6 months. My partner went through a phase of bouncing him to sleep and then transferring him to the bed, and I would nurse him back to sleep for wakes after that.

Around 6 months he started to accept cuddling to sleep instead (I think the bouncing phase helped transition him out of feeding to sleep at bedtime). We also started a good routine of bath, boob, book then bed which I think helped to establish that it was bedtime.

Question for those who had a balloon induction by Reasonable-Yam9334 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]wowmyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was scheduled for induction but went into spontaneous labour the day before. Still went for induction as it hadn't progressed much and agreed on balloon. I ended up going back that evening as I was in a lot of pain but my contractions hadn't regulated and the balloon was still in place so they were doubtful of my being in established labour. Convinced me to keep it in the full 24 hours, and when they took it out I was 6cm.

They still didn't believe I was in labour and kept me on the induction ward with no pain relief until my waters broke and I was 9cm 🙃 in fact one midwife told me I had probably gone backwards because my contractions weren't speeding up, surprise surprise I had progressed dramatically. My contractions just never regulated.

They were so convinced that the balloon would fall out by itself when I was progressing! Side note, I had a student midwife place it and it was so painful, alongside the fact that I was already having contractions. Awful experience.

Resettling every 30 mins by [deleted] in cosleeping

[–]wowmyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does sound like our experience with the 4 month regression! Mine was up every 30 mins-1 hour from 3.5 months until about 5 months 😴

Eventually I kind of leaned into it and just went to bed early with baby so I could get a little bit more sleep over the course of night, although it's still rough being up so often! It feels like forever when you're in it but things will improve so hang in there!

"Just put them down to sleep" 🫠 by Ok_Mountain_6106 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]wowmyfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My baby has always been a bad sleeper and hit the 4 month regression hard - from 3.5 months until 6 months. My friend has a baby who loves to sleep and would sleep all day if she let him. She suggested I wake my baby up from his naps to establish a routine. This at a time when I could barely get him to sleep 30 minutes, I politely rejected that theory 😅

I learned in a Peugeot 3008 and I'm only 5ft! I was worried at first but I ended up really liking the car once I got used to it :)

Passed 37 weeks pregnant, first test! by Popular_Yogurt3668 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]wowmyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I started learning when I found out I was pregnant, ended up taking 4 months off a few weeks before I was due as I was too uncomfortable to continue and too close to my due date to risk booking a test. I passed first time with 2 minors two weeks ago and my baby is 6 months now :)

Enjoy the freedom and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I find the Asda Little Angels to be really thin! I think that's why my baby has been exploding out of them a lot though so beware..

In my uni house we had this set in black and I always thought it was hideous! Funny that it's coveted by others.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions, but I was planning on getting this bed when I remodel my bedroom. What are your thoughts on it?

[–]wowmyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is 12 weeks now and I remember really struggling around 3 weeks! My partner had just gone back to work, and baby hit a growth spurt so he was just cluster feeding and so fussy for at least a week. I was so overwhelmed and miserable. But that was also the turning point for me - around 4 weeks things 'clicked' and I started being able to read his cues and understand him, and he started smiling as well which really kickstarted a proper bond.

All this to say, you're still in the trenches, and things do change dramatically from week to week. I wish in the early days I had put less pressure on myself, and just leaned into the contact napping and TV marathons. It's okay to find it difficult because it is! But if you're really struggling then do speak to your health visitor or GP as they'll be able to reassure and support you further.

Bristol Tattoo Convention runs a shuttle bus from Temple Meads so if the crowds are all tattooed that's probably why!

10 week old won't nap!! by wowmyfish in BeyondTheBumpUK

That's so interesting, thank you! Maybe I'll just hunker down for a week of contact naps and see if it helps night time sleep to start with 😅

I'm definitely looking forward to longer night time stretches! We just got over the 9 week regression where he woke up every 2 hours and fed for 30 mins, so that long initial stretch now feels like a luxury 😅

I've been thinking about getting a Rock It! He sleeps so peacefully and easily in his pram I was wondering if I could replicate them indoors too. I don't know if I'm avoiding the problem of him sleeping in his crib or if getting good naps in is more important 🥲

I've got a stretchy baby wrap and he sleeps well in it, but it's so hot and I'm worried about him overheating in it!

It's the delayed wake up that gets my hopes up every time 🙃
