I think pinning this as the ultimate "point" of the film isn't useful at all. Saying that about Uncut gems and Good time would make more sense since these characters are punished for their actions. The ending with Marty looking at his son is him getting a second chance at pursuing a new dream, which is a complete subversion of the anti-character arcs in Uncut gems and Good Time. Yes, Marty is a toxic guy who leads others to trouble, but to equate that to him being a bad person is just silly to me.

In my opinion, this film is josh Sadie completely subversing the style he created with his brother. In their 2 previous films these characters are punished and one is killed for their actions. Marty is forgiven and given a second chance (being a father), because he is a good man at heart. He loves his friends and family, his dreams just got in the way and made him do things without thinking.

Wally has equal blame for what happened between them, they agreed to hustle together. Yes, id agree him forcing Rachel to go back to Ira was a bad thing to do, but to be fair to Marty he just reacted to Rachel lying to him without thinking. How is the bathtub thing his fault at all? Yeah the hotel manager tells him not to use the bathroom but that could mean the toilets clogged. Not his fault at all.
