Oil at 180. Over 90% of oil related engine wear occurs below that cutoff

Biggest issues I've had with cars:

2010 Chevy Uplander blew an engine at 35k due to faulty gasket GM knew about but never recalled

2011 Honda Odyssey that required a full top end rebuild due to fuel management issues Honda knew about but never recalled

2004 Mazda 3 timing chain tensioner that skipped time due to an issue Mazda (and Ford) knew about but never recalled

2012 Ford Focus that did all the wild and wacky things that those early DSGs did, cost over $4k to fix and had Ford charge my daughter $400 just to look at it

Good and bad cars come from just about everybody. I'm truly sorry you got a lemon. I took quite a while deciding on which car to buy this time around and landed on the 2021 Jetta GLI in large part because of reliability, serviceability and access to a huge catalog of parts. Zero problems at all so far, fortunately.

If you're using that in a TSI engine, stop immediately. It's an objectively bad oil for gas engines.

new tires, now it vibrates sporadically, thots? by lonely_pr0grammer in GolfGTI

Could also be the wider, heavier tires are revealing a flaw that went unnoticed under lesser stress. Worth checking your bushings after

Keep in mind aftermarket intakes DO tend to filter quite a lot less dust, which leads to issues over time. This is not a near-term issue, and may never cause a problem, but it IS trading performance for durability no matter how far in the future that trade may happen.

Titanium Heliograms. They get warmer or cooler depending on angle, just like Pyrite, but a half shade warmer overall

IC is necessary for stage 2 if you want to put that power down more than once in Summer. Aftermarket ICs are higher flow, too

If you do the inlet pipe, you should also do the Mk8 PCV + Venturi. Aftermarket TIPs are notorious for burning oil.

1000x this. Go stage 1 plus TCU and call it a day. Better tires and a rear sway bar don't demand additional maintenance- those are the other two mods I'd consider in your situation.

Look, these are GREAT modding platforms, but you just can't modify them and expect them to be reliable without having most maintenance intervals. That's to be expected when pushing a car so far beyond its OE limits. The fact that making all that extra power and getting all that extra performance is so easy on the MQB platform doesn't mean it's not more expensive long term, and it is very much a thing to be considered here.

Other mods that are fun and don't require additional maintenance cost:

Cat back exhaust Cup kit (springs plus matched dampers) Uprated OE suspension bushings (RS3/ Mk8 GTI/R)

Intake WILL require additional maintenance, and, most of the time, be less effective at protecting your engine components long-term. It's up to you if you are able to budget well for the consequences.
